OE+ is my vote. The classic builds are great. But technology has improved since the gc8 debuted. Might as well bring the car back to better than original!
Keep the CD changer for sure but add bluetooth in a hidden but easy to use way, can't keep it looking clean with adapters and wires headed to your phone for music
OEM Plus. Also if there's a way to keep the CD changer while adding Apple Carplay/Android Auto, that would be the best. I don't miss carrying a book of CDs around. lol I had the 6-disc changer in my 05 STI and I'm glad it wasn't in the boot. Additionally, rear wipers on Subaru sedans have been a desirable feature in the United States for years. We always saw them on the JDM versions, but they were removed for USDM. On the other end of the spectrum, people over here have been deleting rear wipers on their wagons and hatchbacks, which is extremely odd. 'Murica!
OEM+ will look miles better on the undercarriage. Great content! Really enjoying this series on the P1, I hope once it's completed there is another project to start 🤞
Keep everything as oem as possible. The P1 is a future classic, trying to find one that is completely original is hard. The original VDO Dayton Flip screen Sat Nav and Disc changer system (which my P1 has) is a rare and cool option, it was also the most expensive stereo option on the P1 back in the day. Try to find one of the Subaru UK dealers posters, which often pop up on eBay. That lists all the options for the P1 including the WR package, which is the route to go for. A full spec WR P1 (including the leather interior) is very very, rare.
GC8 all the way for sure! We didn't get the P1 here in the States but if you can find the bits you can build you own. I had the P1 front lip on mine, with the classic Prodrive/Speedline 5 spoke in gold... I really wanted the foglight covers, I was never able to find them.
This is one of the things i say about resto's! if you have to change/replace something, then it is no longer original. Many people say they've bought an "original" rally car! The only thing original is the registration number! OEM plus on underside, same as my mate with Escort Cosworth.
Come across this channel for first time and straight into part 1….love a P1 , cant wait to see where this goes…right amount of comedy also..would love to see body colour underneath
Subies just have a wonderful personality! The exhaust note is just awesome. I like OEM+ any upgrade items that you could get from Prodrive back in the day =P1+
OEM+ as you want that to last for another 50 years. 22B all day long or a Spec C RA-R in white. I know both are crazy crazy rare and expensive but if your gonna have an Impreza it'd have to be one of those
Good job Dan and Team at Torque GT. So far it looks like minimal rust... I would keep everything OEM as people in comments pointed out. I'm a big fan of any rally spec cars from 90s and early 2000s but also like anything from Initial D. LOL Oh, just being goofy here... is it Impreza pronounced like Pizza? If so, why is it not Imprezza? 🍕 I'm hungry now. LOL
I'm normally a huge fan of OEM+ (my own Impreza Limited is OEM+) But for the P1 I would stick as close to OEM as possible purely for the fact that P1's are quite rare nowadays! So glad to see someone properly restoring one, keep up the awesome work and I can't wait to see the next instalment of this series!
Evo all day. But I also love and respect the Subarus. In my experience, I’ve found the “rivalry” between the two only comes from salty teenagers who don’t own either and THINK the two are enemies. I have an Evo 8 and many Subaru friends. Nothing but love
Coming on lovely. I know you cannot have everything in life but extended footage and detailed removal of each part would have been wonderful. Sorting my spory special out at the moment. Slow but each nut and bolt cleaned or renewed is a victory.
P1 for me over any Evo. I would keep everything as standard as possible to retain originality but change the radio and speakers in factory locations to bring it upto today's standard. That would be the only change i would make on that future classic
Water in the boot comes from one of three places. 1. Boot seal 2. Spoiler seal, water doesn’t channel out correctly and finds a way into the boot via the bolts. They can also rot where the spoiler meets the boot. 3. Rear light seal Looks like no1 in your case. Mine has a repair in the same place.
If you are going to enjoy driving it then paint the under in modern stuff and upgrade the hole car . If you are making it a show car then keep it factory spec. Same as the the sound system and if you are keeping it upgrade parts on the car. If you are looking to keep the value, then keep it factory spec. Even the engine
Had loads of evo’s and sti impreza’s and I can pick certain cars from each generation I’ve preferred more over the other, but for a bit of fun on the road and cruising a dccd equipped sti is where it’s at for me, I don’t mind about the underside of the car as long as you treat it so you can drive it all year round without worrying about it rusting again anytime soon!
OE+ on the bottom for sure… also update the stereo and speakers as long as its stealthy and doesnt really distract from how the P1 came back in the 90’s
If I remember well the P1 is the only one (of this generation) to get a whiper on the rear screen. Wish you the best to deal with the corroded parts. This car is such a pleasure to drive. I'm never bored to hit the road with it.
I'd go for OE+ given the choice! Don't want the bottom rotting out ever! P1 over an Evo 6 any day, if you said Evo 3 I would've changed my mind haha! I'm really Enjoying the series please keep it coming!
OE+ please these cars deserve to be the best they can. My GC is the only car out of the 20+ I have owned that I regret selling. Update the sound system but keep the CD changer for nostalgia.
Keep it OEM with an Alpine head unit. As far as the building concerns you might wanna contact one of my friends. He worked at Prodrive and helped develop this car. He mainly did suspensions engineering.
This is one of my dream cars love watching this series to see this back to its former glory love watching your videos mate paint underneath in the blue P1 100% over the evo6
Honestly I'd go Evo 6 on the basis that I like being able to change spark plugs without breaking my back. OEM+ (body colour and clearcoat the life out of it?)
P1 any day of the week over any Evo. Had a CD multi changer under the passenger seat in my P1 so I could flip the seat forward at Traffic Lights and bang another cartridge of 10 discs in as I had several already prepped in the glove box
Love the Subaru sound takes me back to the days of standing in cold wet forests watching a certain C McRae thrash the daylights out of them but I'd still take the Evo 6 over a P1 - 22B would be a different story though... I hope those Alcons are less expensive than the ones they supply to PSA for the 308 GTi 270 - £1600 for a pair of discs and Alcon will not sell them direct you have to deal with PSA 😱
The underside is in a lot worse condition than we would expect here in Oz for a car of this age but the climate here is drier. Subies can last a long time if they are not modified and are serviced properly. I had a '94 Rex that was still perfect after 20 years and 220,000 km. In the end it was the wiring and the body seals that started to go, but I still regret selling it.
I do love Subaru and growing up in the pick of Subaru rally days the sound is unbeatable for me I don’t care how reliable evo subaru for me….Iv had a few but now Iv got a bugeye that il be starting a rebuild soon so enjoying your content mate it couldn’t have come at a better time for me.
