Thanks for the update! I'm so looking forward to your book, though more as a modern practicing Hellenic Polytheist. The more we understand about how the ancients did things, the more grounded our current practice can be, after all. So you have a market beyond academia, is I guess what I'm saying. I'm wishing you all the luck in securing a permanent placement in a system that sounds just as exploitative as academia on this side of the pond, even if the way it manifests is different. Re: my own "project permanent job," I'm about to start year two of the "first two-year contract" phase of my "should be permanent" job. It works a bit differently on this side of the pond and even more differently for what they call "clinical applied" faculty. The long and short of that is if all goes well at the end of year two, I get another contract, this time for three years. At the end of that, I can apply for a promotion and another handful-of-years contract. And at some point, I can apply for "tenure-like" status, which is about as permanent as it gets. Not terribly precarious, especially given the incredible shortage of nursing faculty, so I count myself lucky. Holding only a masters is probably my biggest risk factor, but at my age, it's not cost-effective to go for the doctorate without some sort of scholarship or reimbursement. If for some reason they decide they want only PhDs and DNPs, then I guess I'll be back at the bedside and probably keep teaching as an adjunct (because I can't see myself not teaching), but with a much better understanding of how to keep that as limited as it should be.

Thanks Diane! That's so good to hear (I'm getting sick of it so it keeps me going knowing that others are excited!).
