The thing that stand out for me most is the tank, it gives the bike a whole new look, add to the drag bars, the re-shaped seat and the bobbed end, the whole thing looks and sounds fantastic mate. I get the feeling the video doesn't do it justice. Hopefully will get my chance to meet up with you at the BDB.
thank you mate- yep i knew i wasn't going to be happy until i'd changed the tank!!!! thanks for all the support mate- i'm sure we'll hook up in the flesh!!!
Hey Johnny, ditto to all the comments below mate , keep 'em coming. Two quick questions, where did you relocate the relays and electrics when you fitted the tank and was it a 2008 tank? Cheers Rog
+Roger Halliday thanks mate!- i ended up moving the relays under the seat i think- i have more in this vid- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AJHk_N-U_tY.html and the tank was the smaller pre 2008 carb tank...if i did it again i'd try to get a 2008 tank or just modify a fuel injected tank!!! it's a tight fit otherwise!
IT LIVES!!! Well done Johnny, some excellent moments of shed based genius there. I do like an America/ Speedmaster that's been stripped back to basics. Sure Jen might get a wet back from time to time but that's easily solvable by simply giving her jacket a couple of coats of Plasti Dip before you set off! And I still think that there's a case to be made under the trade descriptions act regarding whoever made your 'silencers'! :D
ha ha- cheers mate!!!! i have enough plastidip to cover the wife for a few soggy rides!!!! ha ha....yeah i'm with you on the 'silencer' term!!!! ha ha ha!!!!
Its ALIVE!!! and now so is my granny who died in 1989!! jesus man i shit myself then cos i had headphones on...yup that will wake the dead. Brilliant mate love the bike. hope to get down on the 13th work premiting its gonna be about 400 mile round trip but it should be worth it!!
Put the Emgo Shorties on my 03 America after seeing your video, I just wish I had paid more attention at what you said about the install for them. They were a pain in the ass. Sound better then the D&D's I had though for certain.
You hit the nail, Johnny it's a astonishing mean machine. But is a side mounted license plate allowed in the UK? I looks way better this way, but in Holland it's not allowed.
Nah, mudguards are too short. Exhaust is a joke, I suspect your neighbours hate you. Flat bars may look mean, but are shit on long rides, otherwise looks ok.
quality machine there matey, sounds lovely too on them there headphones ! been a really great project to watch.look forward to the next one. enjoy the blasting both. rsmf. cheers Ade
Well done....looks great and sounds the business, had a feeling i should have taken my headphones off when you said you were going to start her up lol.
ahhh you must watch the later videos my friend!! it's all changed since this vid!!! in fact just finishing a series of vids showing a few changes since i inherited it off my wife!!
a bit of fiddling to fit- relocation of wiring from under the tank, shorten the front tank mounting lugs on the frame, slight widening of the tank tunnel and cutting and drilling the rear mounts.
So, she's done! Wow, mean and raucous loud with a fantastic profile. Beautiful. It has been great watching through the project, every video a treat. Thanks for bothering to document it all, I'm sure you'll be glad you did in years to come too. So wish I could join the run to the Ace, but its over 300 miles each way for me. Hopefully we'll get a chance to meet up sometime this year. Can't not mention the great music. Loved it. Is there any way I can get hold of your stuff? Well done that man. I hope Jen is pleased with her. All the best RSMF Peter
hi peter- thanks to you and all who bothered to watch- it's been very motivating!!! i can't take credit for the song on this video- its a cover of hank williams 'ramblin' man by isobel campbell and mark lanegan- but i'll send you a cd of our stuff if you really want!- just drop me a private message with an address....it won't be the 'finished' article in terms of packaging etc as we haven't finished that but i'll burn you a disc!
what size front tire r u running? There isnt much to choose from for a 110/80-18 tire. Is that a bridgestone battleax tubeless with a tube installed in the 110/80-18 size and if so, how does it handle? I just picked up a 2002 america and am looking for a front tire but dont want anything taller than oem. The only tube type I can find is original bridgestone L303 in a 3.50-18. Any wobble in front end when you ride with just 1 hand? any input will be well appreciated. thanks..
+forrest stump hey mate yep that's a 110/80 18 battlax. rides fine- aesthetically would like something a bit wider but we'll see when the time comes to change!!
top stuff johnny really enjoyed your videos the bike looks really cool and sounds very nice. couple of questions for you firstly whats the background song you used im diggin it. and how did u mount your choke handle/skull. im asumming drill a hole and bond it on?
it's a cover of hank williams- ramblin' man by isobell campbell and mark lanegan, as for the skull choke it's an old key ring drilled tapped and a bit of araldite for good measure!
I just picked up an '05 Speedmaster to compliment my Thruxton R, I missed the old carbs and heavy metal, I also don't think that exhaust note can be found anywhere like on those 900s. Yours sounded like a beast!
hey. I just noticed you have the fork tubes raised in the clamps. is that for stance, or does it help stabilize the front end? do ya notice a difference if the tubes are lowered?
+johnnycactus0 thanks for response. My bike had steering wobble on test run. Now its winter in northern US and had front end removed. New tapered rollers for steering head and new avon roadrider tire and I raised fork tubes a quarter inch above clamps. I was in Portsmouth in 1982 and naval base threw a huge party for my ships crew. We aided and abetted during falklands war. Steak, lobster and free booze. Good times. Be good.
ha ha sounds like good time mate!!- fresh rubber and new bearings will go along way towards steadying the front end- def on the right track. with the tubes in the stock position we found the bike a little 'lazy' to steer- to much drop and it was a bit twitchy- 1/4 inch is about where we are now too! take care buddy!
Blimey, revisiting some of the earlier America vids now I have the Speedy, and didn't realise that this was 3 years ago! Whatever happened to the footpeg kit, was it any good? Looked at these, but thought it expensive. Did you end up lowering the front springs, I know you had a lot of tube through the top yoke recently?
wow! time flies!!! i wasn't impressed with the quality of the norman hyde footpeg kit mate. cheap feel, flimsy, rusted. not worth the money at all. i've been a bit lazy with the forks just dropped them through the yokes! ghetto fix!
it's ok- although with the biltwell friscos, ghetto slam and mis matched knobbly front tyre it's never going to be the most nibble handling bike! still it's ok! i want to get rid of the metzler marathon rear tyre though. always sliding in the wet...makes me wobble round corners!!!
johnnycactus0 Ha ha, you were never one to shy away from a challenge, and steering the equivalent of a giraffe on ice skates is one of your best! 😂😂 Think I'm going for the Night Dragon or Avons. Spyke
Love it, absolutely love it, you've done a bloody good job there bro, I hope your pleased with it! By Feck them pipes are loud, love it even more, lol, great job buddy, RSMF.
... you made it and did a superb job !! very well done mate! I will certainly be looking through this series of vids again in the future to learn and get inspired. the look is awesome, front to end looks just cool; not to mention the sound: just freaking sweet!! Looking forward to hearing it live down at the Ace. nicely done Johnny, and thanks for sharing mate!
not too sure yet- i do love the triumph twins but nothing in my price range!!!- i also fancy something like a gt550 or cb or cbx...not entirely sure yet- i guess when i have the funds then i can see whats about!!!!!
