Totally agree with going electric it will be almost silent cruising I'm looking forward to the journey

Btw, those are side decks, not gangways. A gangway is a boarding device between the boat and shore.

OHH, I feel so ashamed. you are so right. thank you for correcting me. I'll put a notification out in the next video.

Great job! You are rescuing a super nice yacht, an icon. As far as the side decks: in my humble opinion, the original teak decks could have been laid up to the edge of that “gulley” which could have been used as a way to let the water on deck flow to the scuppers, those are openings in your bulwarks, the bottom part of your railing. On large ships this is still being done, the actual deck is higher than the steel deck and has some “slope” or camber to make the water flow off the decks. My guess is that these might have been filled in later Widen the deck surface.

I think you are totally right, from what I learned 4 of these ships where build and then taillored to the needs and desires of the owner in a different factory.

Bonjour.

Judging by what has already been done, a complete replacement of the deck covering on all surfaces was the right decision... make normal slopes for water drainage, but from something modern, paint them with anti-slip paint, but I wouldn’t return the board covering... and I would saw the scuppers so that they would drain the vodka even in this condition of the deck..
@BoatProjectY
@BoatProjectY 8 месяцев назад
something modern, like what? do you have an idea? I'd love to know. Many people tell me to loose the teak deck. but I love it. for me there is nothing more beautiful then a teak deck finish. we'll see if I refurbish it or loose it but for now my hopes or on reinstalling it.

To me it looks like cork with some kind of glue to hold it down ! That makes the most sense also , water proof , dries fast , floats and cushions the floor !

Yeah a epoxy based product some are made to be used mixed with a agragate such as sand or fine gravel, and walla your automatic nonskid. I say it all the time dutch boats have the most beautiful lines . Good work and greetings from Panamá.

I think they added the teak deck later. They ran into a problem with the side decks, with the strange water drainage channel, and decided to level it out instead of removing that water channel drain. This is not how the original shipyard would do this.
@BoatProjectY
@BoatProjectY 8 месяцев назад
I contacted the shipyards former owner and , if his memory serves him well, says it was done original like this...

The self levelling compound could be great, I would imagine that today there will be more advanced products (perhaps epoxy based) that will not allow moisture to pass through onto the metal deck the way the old compound did
@BoatProjectY
@BoatProjectY 8 месяцев назад
exactly what I'm looking for. if you find such a compound give me a shout!
@bendaves77
@bendaves77 8 месяцев назад
If I was to have to bet on why the self leveling compound, I'd say to keep the water running away from the cabin sides so that they don't rot out and since its a high traffic area it's more durable than plywood. I'd definitely recommend using the same type of material to replace the gangways.
@BoatProjectY
@BoatProjectY 8 месяцев назад
I fully agree with you. (apart from the fact that I wrongly refer to them as gangways, but they are side decks. :)) you don't happen to know any modern levelling compound that is watertight and used on boats nowadays?
@bendaves77
@bendaves77 8 месяцев назад
@BoatProjectY I do not.. I know that if you acid wash the steel, you can then find some concrete that when cured has a gray finish almost like it's been painted.. I used it in the basement of my old farm house.. I found it at a home improvement store
@bendaves77

Gr Michel
@BoatProjectY
@BoatProjectY 8 месяцев назад
@BoatProjectY
@BoatProjectY 8 месяцев назад
@michelrosb7433
@michelrosb7433 8 месяцев назад
Succes.

Yes you are right, it is some sort of self levelling screed, it is most unusual to see that on the upper deck. But it is quite common on interior steel decks. Personally I would forgo the teak tech finish, just over plate and paint. On the viability of electrical propulsion, just do some simple powering calculations for your hull size and displacement for your perceived cruising speed then multiply for your use case of range requirement - this will enable you to calculate your battery storage capacity. I would be surprised if the numbers stack up for you.
@BoatProjectY

Thank you Norman, do you know if they still use it in modern day boatbuilding? or is there a more modern alternative? I'd love to know. @@BoatProjectY kewl... can hardly wait.. lol. On a few commercial fishing boats I did repair and salvage work on, some one had filled in the dents with cement. It was not like a little skin either. There was nearly a bag of cement used in patch. I had to put a steel plate over a portion of deck to stop water incursions while the boat was on its side and mostly under water. I ended up turning it in to a water tight tank and pump the sea water out and the thing came up and bobbed around like a cork. After all that work the owners still decided to scrap this beautiful little 80ft ship. It would have been an awsome floating condo. Lol

@BoatProjectY
@BoatProjectY 8 месяцев назад
@theladyoflife
@theladyoflife 8 месяцев назад
