AH @sirAdamMeek I'm so pleased to find somebody else who does not think I'm crazy for going full electric. I have no idea how I'll pay for the conversion, but I learned to always aim high. and I believe it would be fantastic to propel this beauty forward on electric propulsion.

@@BoatProjectYbrilliant idea. All electric is the way of the future. Sailing Into Freedom channel is building an aluminium cat for the Elcano Challenge which means a circumnavigation with NO fossil fuel. With the massively improving efficiency of solar panels, solar controllers/chargers and battery technology I can see this as a great step forward that may not have been easily achieved even 5 years ago.

Watching from Australia here...looks like a big job....and what are you doing with the engines....replacing them with electric motors I hope?
@lewe1451
@lewe1451 24 дня назад
If you want to clean small parts from corrosion you can put them in a bucket with fosfor acid over night. I have done that many times and the result is very good. Nice to see how your work is moving forvard.
@BoatProjectY
@BoatProjectY 24 дня назад
that's a great idea, do you rinse them off? with what? and then thoroughly dry them I take it?
@lewe1451
@lewe1451 24 дня назад
@@BoatProjectY Just flush dem in water and dry with a rag or paper. Then you can paint or what you like to do. Be careful with your eyes and skin while working with it.
@lewe1451

@@BoatProjectY I forget. You must take away grease and oil before you put it in acid.

@teeanahera8949
@teeanahera8949 15 дней назад
Any acid works well on rust, even vinegar is effective. Proprietary rust converters such as the one you used is the best though as it leaves that converted surface suitable for painting. I think angle grinders with specific discs/brushes for rust are the best for rust removal. Needle guns seem used mainly for knocking off the scale after welding. Will you get the yacht out onto the hard for a hull check & repair?

You are making sound and steady progress, although it may not quite feel like that. I hope you can recruit an enthusiast to help revive the propulsion and auxiliary machinery. The team at Sailing Coney (on You Tube too)managed to recruit a handy Brit and he worked wonders for them.😀👍

You would have to find a place for the upcoming winter on the shore, pull it out of the water and make the bottom properly ... The deck floor is covered, because it will also have to be seriously processed, what you have now need serious work ...

Heihei! Nice work so far, congrats! I‘ve a question regarding the two engines: what would you put inside instead? We have the same engine on our dutch steel vessel - 30 years old, 7000h on it - and in all that time, we never had ANY issue. You wouldn‘t find something as robust as those engines. So may rethink your decision😃 best regards
@BoatProjectY
@BoatProjectY 16 дней назад
Yes, thanks for your reply. I read that these are amazing engines, and I hope I can make somebody happy with them. I’ve set my mind on an electric propulsion. And as a result I’m separating from these beasts of an engine

If you use a diesel generator then you are not going fossil fuel free. You then travel down the rabbit hole of hybrid drives which can be an expensive proposition. Green hydrogen (which is not a fossil fuel) generator maybe?

Cheers.

Your denunciation of electric motors is unfounded. There are superb electric outboards in high kilowatts and inboard motors the same. Supplying enough sunlight or a green hydrogen generator could be the problem. They said the same thing about electric cars and look where they are now. The dinosaurs were popular for a while but they did go extinct and so will ICEs.
@teeanahera8949
@teeanahera8949 15 дней назад
Last comment I promise…. For now at least. Don’t feel overwhelmed by tinkering with diesel motors, like all internal combustion engines they simply work by logic. You can dismantle them using logic. They have only 3 necessary elements, air, fuel and electricity. Add some lubricants and there’s just the logic as to which is not working if the motor won’t go.

Your definitions of length to differentiate between ships and boats is bogus. Did you make that up? I think we could call it a yacht. “As a general term, the word yacht can refer to any watercraft that isn’t intended to be used to make money, which includes anything from racing sailboats to billionaires’ floating ultra-luxury mansions.”
