Masking is a common technique in projection mapping. Today we are going to learn what projection mapping masking in QLab is, and how we can use it ourselves. Masking is a powerful technique in projection mapping that allows the designer to exactly specify what to project on. In traditional projection we can only project a square image, and to get around this issue we can use a mask. A mask is an image that consists of areas that are white and black. The white areas of the image will allow the projection to pass through where as the black portion of the image will block the projection. We can then load this mask into QLab and apply it to an individual surface. We can also use masking to create some unique projection designs by isolating the foreground and background of the surface. We will learn what masks are, how we can use them in QLab, and how they can level up your next projection design.
