We've established that the basic unit of life is the cell, and that the simplest forms of life are just one cell. The earliest unicellular organisms were prokaryotic, and there are many prokaryotic organisms still around today, including all bacteria. So let's go over the features of the prokaryotic cell!

I don't mean it as an offence, but I see that the views on your channel are dropping, but it's because of RU-vid's new algorithm which pretty much doesn't care about its content creators. As a resut, your videos might not be reaching all of your viewers. I saw your video of "ask professor dave #2" where you stated that youtube is your full time job, so I suggest you add a small clip at the beginning of every video that tells your viewers to click the bell icon next to the subsrcibe button so that they are atleast notified when you release a video. And as always, your lectures are awesome!
@ProfessorDaveExplains
@ProfessorDaveExplains 6 лет назад
actually views are climbing all the time! as for a call to action to subscribe, i think the sign off is enough, i don't like content that barrages you with requests right at the first moment. especially because most of my views come from people searching an academic topic to try to learn it for class, and if they don't know who i am or the quality of my content, they will be turned away by lengthy introductions unrelated to what they are looking for. but i appreciate the concern!

+Professor Dave Explains Firstly, OH MY GOD YOU REPLIED!!!!!! Second, what I meant by "views are dropping" was that views per video are dropping. Also, I wasn't telling you to tell everyone to subscribe, but tell people who are ALREADY SUBSCRIBED to click the notification bell.

Good video. There's something that I don't understand though. If the organelles of the cells are able to reproduce and grow. Why they are not consider the smallest living been?
@ProfessorDaveExplains
@ProfessorDaveExplains 6 лет назад
because they can't exist on their own! they require the machinery of the entire cell.
@joseluissileboriaco7603
@joseluissileboriaco7603 6 лет назад
Professor Dave Explains But still, There are animals that depends from others to live. For example Humans parasites or viruses. (I'd like a video explaining what is needed to be consider a living organism, a virus, an animal... basically the stuff of the kingdoms)
@ProfessorDaveExplains
@ProfessorDaveExplains 6 лет назад
actually viruses aren't considered to be alive! i briefly mention the criteria at the beginning of the first clip in the biology series. a big one is metabolic processes/energy production, and that's mainly the job of mitochondria, so organelles aren't considered alive because they can't produce energy. there's also response to stimuli, it's a short list but it's quite comprehensive.
@joseluissileboriaco7603
@joseluissileboriaco7603 6 лет назад
Professor Dave Explains So it's all about producing energy and been able to response to stimulations. Then, Should we consider the sun alive? It can produce energy and it responses to the gravity attraction of the centre of the universe. Electron are also able to response to certain type of stimulations. If mass is equal to energy square, then everything is energy. I think that you also said in one of your videos that energy can not be destroyed or created. It is just transformed. Are you contradicting yourself?
@ProfessorDaveExplains
@ProfessorDaveExplains 6 лет назад
the sun does not reproduce! and being influenced by gravity is not considered response to stimuli. we can't consider things that literally all matter does as response to stimuli, as this does not differentiate one group of matter from any other group of matter. mass is equal to energy divided by the speed of light squared if you want to get technical, but i'm not sure how that fits into this conversation. and the law of energy conservation holds true, although again, this is unrelated.

Dear Professor, The origin on atoms and invisible energy is the cause of all in the universe. Energy neither can be created or destroyed by present environment. the fact is the intrinsic creation of atoms and nature of energy is an art of one great master genius. Who he is not the issue. Recognize that master.Why can,t u call it as the super consciousness inside, out side and every where of every thing. People call it in different names but it is the only one.Some say it supernatural others say it divine power. The least thing is this. Consciousness is in all and it is the creator and sustainer of all living and non living this on this entire universe.
@ProfessorDaveExplains
@ProfessorDaveExplains 6 лет назад
There is no evidence whatsoever for what you are describing. You certainly are free to believe it, but it is a religious belief and not a scientific one.
@sekharandivakaran
@sekharandivakaran 6 лет назад
I am not telling about God or any other supernatural beings.There is a scientific force/reasoning/ property attached by which the so called biochemical reactions occur. Simply telling so so happens is not the answer Sir. It is only discovery. When invented a Electron microscope we do not add any extra properties to electrons. Only make use of the inherent properties. We can not add extra charge on it to charge the electron property. Take an example of creation. Nature has well designed the animal and plant reproduction. A human can not fertilize an ovam of a monkey. So what we can call the impossible versus the existing. The force behind the known (discoveries) and unknown actions of this universe must have a wise Engineer to develop it. Just a curiosity. I expected an answer.No intention to bring God or faith in any way. Thanks for the reply.Bye.

Sorry, I still don't understand what you're saying. There is no evidence whatsoever that life on earth was engineered. Again, it is certainly possible, but you're implying that it's absolutely necessary, and that's just not true.
