I thoroughly believe that kissin has some of the finest double note playing of all time
@jackcurley1591
@jackcurley1591 3 года назад
Most definitely. Tbh even tho he’s regarded as a modern day great, he’s a little underrated in the public eye. Kissin is more than worthy of being mentioned in conversations of all time greats like Richter, Horowitz, Zimmerman, etc.

Some of the pianists with the best doubles technique: Moriz Rosenthal, David Saperton, Joseph Lhévinne, Pogorelich, Libetta. Check out these videos on RU-vid: XZ2a-Ms9uY4 (Saperton) 0XCj-j7TBTY (Lhévinne) (RU-vid doesn't allow me to post complete links in the comments, but you can paste these partial links over the last part of any standard YT link.)

LOL this etude reminds me of the movie Legend of 1900 when the pianist tells the other guy, "you asked for it asshole", then proceeds by lighting a cigarette on fire by the sheer combustible energy emanating from the strings of the piano.

@@Ar1osssa - No, it is not too fast. Why are people always complaining about tempo, even when the score indications are right in front of them? Most of the etude is presto & prestissimo with accelerandos in between. Just read the score if you are not sure.

I've had an unmarked mp3 of this piece for over 20 years, and while I knew what the piece was, I didn't know who performed it. I finally know now. Everything about Kissin's performance is perfect: all tempos and tempo changes, volume and dynamics, the clarity, everything is just like I feel it should be. However, what is missing in this video is the overwhelming ovation after he stops playing, because apparently it was a live performance.

It was his last encore, no less, for his debut performance at Carnegie Hall. I still love this performance even after all these decades.

Me too! This was in Carnegie Hall early in his international career. I was told by someone who was involved in the (double) CD recording of that recital that they used many takes from the rehearsal for all sorts of corrections, so this recording of that wonderful Prokofiev encore may have been edited too, but this could very well have been a complete, unaltered take, given Kissin's flawless technique at the time.

@@j.vonhogen9650 Cool man =) I only saw him once live, in stockholm, playing Rach 3. It was a very memorable concert. I think he actually filled in for someone who got sick. I remember the conductor spending most of the concert turned towards Evgeny while conducting. Perhaps they didn't have time to reherse. Anyway, thanks for that info man
