I really like that everyone's story matches up with the Brothers Grimm tales. For instance, Cinderella doesn't have a fairy godmother, she has the willow tree over her mother's grave, and instead of glass slippers, she has gold slippers. The bit where the birds help her sort through the ashes to get the beans (I think it was), is also in the story. I like that not much was changed.
Like, Ella's friends really *did* claw their eyes out. And yes, her original name is Ella. Cinderella was a nickname given to her after one of the sisters (I think? Correct me if I'm mistaken though) threw a pot full of cinder on her (I don't exactly quite remember what it was that made them give her that nickname but you get my point)
Lu J Meryl Streep was in A Series of Unfortunate Events? Don’t you mean one of the stepsisters were Esme Gigi Gineveuve Squalor, the city’s 4th best financial advisor?
I can understand that some people may not like this movie, but I feel it's EXTREMELY underrated. The way the writers used symbolism in every seemingly unimportant detail and intertextuality to weave together the pieces was incredible, adding multiple layers of depth and meaning. I think lots of people are missing out on the full experience by not understanding the underlying meanings and the characters' development. Everything from geographical location, the higher altitudes where thoughts become clearer, the lower, darker woods, where common sense and judgement become clouded through a journey of self discovery, just to name a few. And the witch's garden...the place where she goes to gain a sense of control over growing things, unlike how she was able to do with Rapunzel. And the music. Oh the music. If you truly listen to the lyrics, you can understand Cinderella's limited interactions with her parents in her childhood ONLY, through the simple, child-like adjectives she uses in her advice song. When the princes are singing "agony", they turn it into a competition of who has the most struggle in their romances. The back and forth exchanges between the 2 princes highlights their childish/immature natures and general unfitness to rule. The soundtrack was simple, revolving around Rapunzel's short melodical chant, and the flute and piano crescendos and arpeggios at the end of song phrases (with echoing oboe) along with the marching strings to carry and intertwine and overlap related characters' singing parts. And the simplicity and repetition of The melody can be easily recognized as turning grim when transposed to a minor key. The acting was amazing and the movie had a star cast. I was thoroughly impressed.

Purple Kittay how does this have 700 likes it’s literally just quoting the video with no original input. i could literally just comment the same exact thing.
5:49-6:05, finally! Gosh! Finally we get a taste of how Cinderella REALLY feels! Frustrated, angry, just done with having to put up with those...not-so-nice-word-Step-Sisters and step mother! Nicely done, Anna! Make Cinderella real for once! Jeez! Of course, i would've probably popped them long before this....but that's just me...anyway, nicely down!
It's really sad how people are claiming that in this movie "Anna Kendrick doesn't show enough emotion in her singing". She really does. One review played a clip to "compare" the movie to the original play. For the movie, they played the clip in which Cinderella wasn't showing any frustration yet, and for the play, they played the clip in which she was already gritting her teeth. I just find that the comparison is unfair, because Anna Kendrick did an amazing job with her role, and she's not getting the credit for it.
Lol, the struggle is real. Whenever the parts overlap I have to chose one of them to do at that exact moment and then switch back to the main voice whenever the overlap ends.
My favorite part is when Cinderella is singing and is doing the girls hair. Thats amazing. You did an amazing job on all this. I would give you a high five but since this is on the internet, I can't. But again, you did a great job on this!!
The part at 12:16 with Cinderella and the baker and his wife with the flute and clarinet is just magically orchestrated, lovely to hear this musical with a full orchestra
I have a theory that little red riding hood has no actual mom and views the baker's wife as her mom. We never see her mom and after the giant appears she's only worried for a little while and one could argue that she was talking about the Baker's wife. Also in her song 'I know things now' she says that her mother warned her but the only one who ever warned her about anything was the Baker's wife. And because she can't get pregnant in the beginning the Baker's wife treated LRRH as her daughtern
Regarding the musical in general, I like how this song and the final one reflect the characters matturity. At first they are not taking the forest seriously, (the woods being a metaphor for life) saying stuff like "yeah, nothing bad can happen to us there", with the baker having some doubts before entering. And in the end, now they are talking about how hard it is to be in the forest and that nobody is ever exempt from going there, but knowing that they are stronger there with other people and the things they learn in the past ventures into it. And now the baker says that even though the light is fading, he can still see a glimmer. It's a very nice musical.
@@rainjanaiah4903 found out my friend hasn't seen it and said I'd invite her to my house just to show the the many *many* amazing musicals she hasn't seen. (including into the woods actually)
Yes. The word is 'clod' not 'clawed'. And yes, the word is 'raping' not 'raving'. Now that that is established, can you guys comment something other than pointing that out again? Thnx
one bit of advice: can you color the different parts? like have the baker's line be blue and the stepsister's lines be green and stuff. it's hard to differentiate between the parts and it's hard to sing along to a single part when all the lines are the same color
i love this movie especially the fact that each individual story is based more on the Brothers Grimm storys in stead of Disney it gives the hole movie a darker feel and i really like that.
I don’t know what it is, but I live for the part where the wife sings “more than the moon.” The progression of notes just sparks serotonin. And the whole bit with the witch’s greens. Meryl Streep is a treasure.
Cool I love into the Wood's!! I love Meryl steeps part in the past when u mother was with child unusual appitiot they where lovey couple but no lovey eneyway I made my clame oh don't take away the baby but I did and I hide her wares shell never be seen!
tattoo fever I agree, but I prefer the play version, in which she is played by a young adult. It makes "Hello, Little Girl" and "I know things now" a lot more sexual and funny!
Dude I was about to comment on the "clawed" thing. But then I saw the comment saying not to anymore. Felt kinda bad. Sorry for all the people commenting on your mistakes.
This is a masterpiece. I really loved this movie. All of the crossovers and everything. It's- like all of the fairytales combined into a one musical movie. Which is sooo interesting! I really respect this movie. Imagine all the hard work for the script, all the acting, etc.I also respect all of the actors and staff specially to the script writers, costume designers and the director. Huge respect :(((
I wish (And in this village) More than anything (Lived a young maiden) More than life, more than jewels (A carefree young lad) I wish More than life (And a childless baker) I wish (With his wife) More than anything, more than the moon I wish The King is giving a Festival More than life I wish I wish to go to the Festival More than riches And the ball I wish my cow would give us some milk More than anything I wish we had a child (Please, pal) I want a child (Squeeze, pal) I wish to go to the Festival (I wish you'd give us some milk or even cheese) I wish we might have a child I wish You wish to go to the Festival? (The poor girl's parents had died) You, Cinderella, the Festival? You wish to go to the Festival? The Festival? The King's Festival? (And now she lived with her stepmother) The Festival? Ha! (Who had two daughters of her own) Look at your nails! Look at your dress! People would laugh at you Nevertheless, I still want to go to the Festival And dance before the Prince Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha (All three were beautiful of face, but vile and black of heart) I wish (Well, she was at her wit's end) I wish my son were not a fool I wish my house was not a mess I wish the cow was full of milk I wish the walls were full of gold I wish a lot of things What in heaven's name are you doing with the cow inside the house? I thought if he got nice and warm he might produce some milk It's a she, how many times do I have to tell you only shes can give milk? I wish It's not for me, it's for my Granny in the woods A loaf of bread, please To bring my poor old hungry granny in the woods Just a loaf of bread, please Cinderella, if you can pick up these lentils And finish your chores in time Then you may go to the ball with us Come along ladies Yes, Mother Good luck Come, little birds Down from the eaves, and the leaves, over fields, out of castles and ponds (Now, squeeze, pal) Aah-aah-aah-ah Quick, little birds Flick through the ashes Pick and peck but swiftly sift through the ashes, into the pot Now listen to me well, son, Milky-White must be taken to market Mother, no, he's the best cow in the world Was, she has been dry for weeks now with no food or money, and no choice but to sell her But, Milky-White's my best friend Look at her There are bugs on her dugs There are flies in her eyes There's a lump on her rump Big enough to be a hump (But) We've no time to sit and dither While her wither's wither with her And no one keeps a cow for a friend Sometimes I wonder what's goin' on in that head of yours Into the woods, it's time to go I hate to leave, I have to, though Into the woods, it's time, and so I must begin my journey Into the woods, and through the trees To where I am expected ma'am Into the woods to Grandmother's house Into the woods to Grandmother's house Are you certain of your way? The way is clear The light is good I have no fear, nor no one should The woods are just trees The trees are just wood I sort of hate to ask it, but do you have a basket? Yes, we do I don't suppose you're planning on buying any of these (Oh, shh) Now, don't stray and be late, alright? You might save some of those sweets for Granny? Oh my (Just, leave it) She's a thief! Into the woods and down the dell The path is straight, I know it well Into the woods and who can tell What's waiting on the journey? Into the woods to bring some bread To Granny who is sick in bed Never can tell what lies ahead For all that I know, she's already dead But into the woods Into the woods Into the woods To Grandmother's house And home before dark Cinderella! Get up here! Fly, birds, back to the sky We're waiting! Back to the eaves, and the leaves, and the fields, and the Hurry up and do my hair, Cinderella Are you really wearing that? Here, I found a little tear, Cinderella Can't you hide it with a hat? You look beautiful I know (She means me), no she didn't Father said be good, mother said be nice That was always their advice So be nice, Cinderella, good, Cinderella Nice, good, good, nice (Tighter!) What's the good of being good if everyone is blind Always leaving you behind? Never mind, Cinderella, kind, Cinderella Nice, good, nice, kind, good, nice Ow! Not that tight! God! Who might that be? We've sold our last loaf of bread! It's the witch from next-door We have no bread I don't want your bread Then what is it you wish? It's not what I wish, it's what you wish Nothing cooking in that belly now is there? And there will never be Unless you do exactly as I say In three days time a blue-moon will appear Only then can the curse be undone

When I heard this when I was little, I thought the witch was talking about how they weren’t gonna be able to make more bread. “Nothing cooking in that belly now” I though she was talking about the oven.
If you haven't watched to movie dont press read more bc there are spoilers Now everyone who has watched it: When Cinderella says " what's the good in being good if everyone is blind" she is kinda predicting the future bc around half way through the movie her sisters go blind the same time she doesnt have to be kind to them anymore....
The music in this movie is amazing, i used to watch this a lot and never realised how the story and music and acting was amazing! If you have never seen it i highly recommend it 👌
I got to play flute and other woodwinds for this for a local high school when I was in college. It’s always a ton of fun and especially seeing the intricacies that went into this prologue. Once upon a time! (Then that’s when the music started for ours)
At 6:08, it's supposed to be 'clod', not 'clawed' and at 7:46 should be raping, not raving. But otherwise, you did a really good job with this, especially the parts that overlap. It's refreshing that someone on youtube actually knows their spelling and grammar.
***** The Fantasticks originally had a number called The Rape Ballet. True fact! The character El Gallo explains that it's the proper word for "abduction." Times changed, however, and with a more enlightened awareness of rape, the number - always provocative - must have been universally regarded as offensive. It has been replaced by "Adbuctions," which is set to different music. In fact, I believe it has been substituted in new issues of the original cast recording.
I went to revisit this just to listen to the witch, we had a play and that was the most memorable, exhausting, frustrating but wonderful act we've every done for our junior year .
"For all that I know she's already dead!" She sings that with such happiness. "But into the woods!" This is how we all need to act when something happens. Basically, 'Back to life where we have to deal with whatever it throws in our direction!'
One of the most wonderful musicals I have seen in a very long time. I bought the DVD to see it and I expected a movie. I did not realize it was a musical. I was mesmerized! Although I own nearly every musical made on DVD going back to South Pacific, Carousel, Seven brides for seven daughters, etc etc, I have only bought 1 other soundtrack, which was ANNIE. I bought the musical soundtrack and downloaded the lyrics. It was so enjoyable~~
14:00 Into the Gala we must go, We're ready now, We're all aglow Into the Gala, let's go in and have the best night ever Into the Gala, now's the time, we're ready and we look divine Into the Gala, meet new friends Into the Gala, sell some apples Into the Gala, find my prince Prove I'm great as a Wonderbolt is To meet! I remember being in 6th grade trying memorize this.. I'm now 18 and randomly remembered this lol.. Specially little red riding hood's parts I still remember them almost word by word😭
Aye! This was so helpful. We had to listen to the music of into the woods because I’m doing the play, as Florinda. And this was so nice to get an idea of what the music is like!
Yeah, I can rap: Greens, greens, nothing but greens! Parsley, peppers, cabbages and celery! Asparagus and watercress, fiddleferns and lettuce- he said ‘Alright,’ but it wasn’t quite! ‘Cause I caught him in the eve in the garden one night!
He started retreatin and readin every treatise on the shelf there would have been nothin left to do for someone less astute he woulda been dead or destitute without a cent of restitution started workin, clerkin for his late mothers landlord Tradin sugar cane and rum and all the things he can't afford scammin for every book he can get his hands on planning for the future see him now as he stands on the bow of a ship headed for the new land
this movie is very special to me, the woods symbolize my depression. I have to believe the woods are just trees, my problems and struggles are just temporary. after the earthquake the woods were in chaos at that point I thought I already knew what to do but my plan of overcoming it is not that easy. In the last song, no one is alone, all those words on that song comfort me like blanket. my friends thought I was too gay for loving this movie. they will never understand why I love this movie coz no one wants to support my journey and I understand that everyone has their own woods to journey to and sometimes we just met somewhere there.
