Definitely should have bought a grommet kit for all the small holes to protect for all the fuel lines and wire penetrations in the floor and the van’s structural beam penetrations as well, pretty cheap insurance, a full kit is about $10 bucks at Home Depot or Harbor Freight. The hole for the Intake and Exhaust needs to filled completely after the unit was placed, speaking as a retired Fire Fighter / NFPA Inspector (fire codes), the approved fire rated caulk acts as a heat sink for “X” amount of time before the caulk fails…just a thought !

We have used several of your instruction videos on this van build to build our own van in Northern California between January and April. We used your link to buy the Chinese diesel heater. It worked wonderfully up until now. It shows error code E4 and we don't know how to fix it. It means there's an error with the fuel pump. The first thing we did is replace the fuel pump. No luck.
@joelatsacredgrounds
@joelatsacredgrounds Год назад
Then we thought we would try replacing the controller. We learned that we have what is called a uncommon controller so it's not compatible with the motherboard of the diesel heater. Do you have any thoughts about this?
@BuildingVanLife
@BuildingVanLife Год назад
@@joelatsacredgrounds First I would check the fuel line. Did you run out of diesel at any point while it was running? Fill it up, make sure there are no air bubbles in the line, if there are bleed the system again with the process I show in the video, check the fuel filter, make sure it's not clogged, maybe even clean it out, you will need to bleed the system again if you do this. then remove the fuse to hopefully reset it, put the fuse back in and see if it works.
@joelatsacredgrounds
@joelatsacredgrounds Год назад
@@BuildingVanLife when I replaced the fuel pump diesel ran freely through the gas line. I took the fuse out for a few minutes to reset it. I unplugged the controller as well for a few minutes. The heater never ran out of gas. The controller will not respond to pressing the buttons that cause the gas pump to Prime. If I press the power button for 3 seconds the controller shows that it's beginning the on cycle for a second and then immediately turns to error code 4. I wonder if we should simply replace the heater

@BuildingVanLife
@BuildingVanLife 2 года назад
Thank you! It depends on how high you run it, but it lasts a really long time. I've never had to run it above the lowest setting once it warmed up inside. Probably a few days straight. It really just sips on the diesel.

Couple questions: 1. Any issues with getting a diesel smell inside the van? 2. Any issues with the line or diesel coagulating/freezing in cold temps? (I think you can also use diesel additive to mitigate/prevent this phenomena as well). 3. Do you need to do any flushing of the line when not in use?
@BuildingVanLife
@BuildingVanLife 2 года назад
I haven't ever had any diesel smell ever, not at all. You bring up a good point with the diesel line freezing, i haven't taken it to any extreme temperatures yet, maybe next time i'll keep the line inside. You shouldn't need to flush the line, but if you completely empty it, you may need to just prime the pump with the prime cycle again which isn't a big deal.
@roberttretsch8794
@roberttretsch8794 2 года назад
Great job on the video. Gave me perfect ideas for my install on my "non-diesel" van. Two questions: 1). do you have any diesel smell inside; and 2.) with the pump under the van what, if any, is the noise level of the pump inside the van. Appreciate any feedback. Thank you. BTW, from other videos I've watched, I think the muffler is installed incorrectly. Other have noted a small hole in one side of the muffler which is to act as a drain for condensate and should be oriented downwards to affect proper drainage.
@BuildingVanLife
@BuildingVanLife 2 года назад
No smell at all in inside the van. With the pump outside you can still hear it a little bit but compared to it inside it’s a huge improvement. Yeh I noticed the hole on the muffler after someone else mentioned it and rotated it.

I'm getting ready to take the plunge and install my heater this weekend.. Since you've had yours running for a while now have you had any issue with water getting in the van from that hole you drilled? Are you happy with the 3m sealant you used? I"m going to go pick some up from Home depot this weekend and was curiouse how it held up. It looks like a nice and simple solution. Thanks for putting in all the effort to edit and post these videos!

I'm wondering why you would install a diesel heater in a gas powered van and have to worry about the possibility of spilling nice, aromatic diesel under your bed when you fill the small fuel tank when you can get gas heaters that can be plumbed directly into your vehicles very large fuel tank? I would also think the small fuel tank would limit your stay anywhere for any length of time.
@BuildingVanLife
@BuildingVanLife 2 года назад
These are pretty standard in van builds, why would I use it? The cheapest gasoline heater i can find online is $2,497 while this is $169. Why would I spill it? I'm not the careless type. They last a very long time on a single tank and they also sell larger tanks sizes if that's an issue for you. I believe these are the most efficient option for heat.

Your videos are a great guide through my whole build, thank you so much! I got everything hooked up and primed the heater. When I turn it on, it blows air lightly then turns off with an error 03 message. (“Ignition plug fault”) do you know how I could trouble shoot this? Thanks again
@BuildingVanLife
@BuildingVanLife 2 года назад
@@jayko8200 it can be a couple things, most likely it's low voltage. Is your battery under charged? If so make sure your battery is charged enough, otherwise it could be a faulty glow plug. You would need to return it and replace it through amazon if that's the case. Try the voltage first.

@BuildingVanLife

Yes I’ve seen it done under the hood with a special tank. I think it’s a great idea but then you need to install the heater towards the front of the van which I didn’t want to do for this build. I like having the heater near the water tank to keep it from freezing.
