Such a slept on sci fi movie. It also happens to have, in my opinion, one of the greatest trailers of all time. I still remember seeing it in commercials in 2012 and it haunting me.
@@orangewarm1a lot of ppl. Ppl still criticize Charlize’s character because she didn’t roll over to the side and I’ve seen quite a few reviews saying the plot really didn’t make sense which doesn’t matter much because what is plot nowadays lol.
Covenant was annoying the watch because the crew made stupid choices and landed on an unaurveyed alien world with ZERO protection from pathogens or anything besides the inclimate weather. Then those choices lead to horror and disasters that drives the plot along. It's a visually excellent movie and the premise is sound. But the plot holes are too large to simply ignore and it's a shame because it's spoils what for all intents and purposes is a good movie.
Dr. Shaw is played by Swedish actress Noomi Rapace. I'm not sure if you've ever seen the American/English film The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara (her sister is Kate Mara, crazy girlfriend Ben had an affair with in season one of American Horror Story), but it's a remake of the superior Swedish film (which is part of the Millennium Trilogy) "The Girl With the...", originally titled "Men Who Hate Women". But Noomi Rapace is the titular character of all three Swedish films. The other two are The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest. I highly recommend the original trilogy.
@@lmazz6776 It had nothing to do with the fly actually. I paused it after that scene. I just simply missed it unfortunately (it was pretty subtle tbh). But to be fair, I think missing this made my reaction to Alien: Covenant a lot better lol
@@MovieFusion sorry bro. it wasnt subtle at all. in fact, it was flagrant. BUT, in view of the fly.... totally understandable. they are annoying little fucks :P
Since it’s been 4 years since seeing Alien, you probably didn’t notice. It’s the same ship from the first movie. And same chair the alien sat in that they discover. Also, you should watch the original Alien trailer from 1979 you’ll understand why the movies have the same title sequence where the letters slowly appear.
Yeah I was confused on that one. Spoilers . . . . . The crew of the Covenant in the sequel to this movie lands on a planet with a crashed Juggernaut. The planet is filled with flora, but barely any, if any at all fauna besides xenomorphs. So is that planet LV426 where the Nostromo Crew finds the derelict juggernaut? Albeit, the planet is a barren wasteland by the time of Alien 1979.
Alien Vs Predator aren’t canon to the main continuity. However, this movie and Covenant are official prequels to the canon that is Alien and Aliens, etc.
The story I heard is that the engineers decided to destroy all life on earth after the crucifixion of Jesus That’s why they were on their way 2000 years ago Kind of interesting lore It showed them that we were too violent to be allowed to continue if we would kill someone who was that peaceful They sent him as a test It’s really pretty cool
But that just asks so many questions. Was Jesus in this universe, an alien Engineer? Did they create another human (Jesus) and send him down? Why create a species so much like yourselves and then be disgusted when that species shows tendencies or proclivities towards violence, when the same tendencies exist within engineers? Why set up cave drawings and maps to their bio weapons installation on LV223?
Thank u sm for appreciating this movies lack of Xenomorphs!!! It was a huge “shortcoming” audiences complained about when this movie released but to me the story works so nicely as an origin for alien. Uses its “different” prequel vibe fully to its advantage
At the end it’s not a Xenomorph but actually a DEACON . “The Aethon” , more commonly named the Deacon due to its characteristic head shape, and sometimes dubbed Plagiarus noxapater-to wit, "mimic father of night"-was a stage in the life cycle of the Proto-Xenomorph species
This movie could have been so good, but the curse of excessive tropes already had a strong grip on the alien franchise at this point. The first movie had a documentary feel, the second turned action and precision up to 11, the third was bungled, then they all felt like they were written by people who view Netflix and Wikipedia but don't leave the house.
Coming to a theater near you, Movie Fusion, in The Attack Of The Annoying Flies! lol. Great reaction to Prometheus, my friend. You should check out the promo video/ commercial Michael Fassbender did as David for Prometheus. It’s pretty creepy but cool.
Engineers are so beautiful. They are like marble statues of Ancient Greek Gods. Whoever came up with their design deserves praise. I love this movie. I wish Ridley would have explored the Engineers/Creator gods plotline further.
This is my favorite of the newer alien films. I really thought they had a new lead in Shaw. And intriguing storylines for the Architect aliens. It’s too bad what they ended up doing with her character afterwards, I was so excited for Covenant only to be disappointed after she didn’t return. Oh and Fassbender is insanely good in this movie as David.
Highly recommend listening to an awesome podcast from over here in the UK called 'Scripts Apart', where writers of major films and TV discuss a film they've written, their writing process, and how they got their work from the page to the screen. Jon Spaihts' episode is fascinating - he talks in depth about how and why he was hired to write this film, his creative process with Ridley Scott, how they developed/expanded the lore of the Alien universe, and his early drafts of the script/his version of the film before Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers, Watchmen) came on board for rewrites. As he states, the studio execs and Ridley saw how successful Inception was, so all pivoted from his version towards a more 'original' sci-fi film, so brought in Lindelof. I'm sure you'll enjoy most of the other episodes on the podcast too. Also, you can read Spaihts' original draft online, just search for 'Alien: Engineers script'. It's a great read, very different from 'Prometheus'.
David took the black goo from the vial that he brought back from the Engineer space craft and put it in the drink that Charlie drank at the billiard table, so that's why he started to morph into that creature. Billy Boy
26:49 You might have a dead animal in your attic, like a mouse or rat. Flies lay eggs in them and the new flies get in your house via ceiling light fixtures and stuff.
I believe I first watched Noomi Rapace in ‘what happened to monday’ which is a fire movie she’s an amazing actress, in the movie she has seven identical sister and the way she gives each of them their own personality was great to watch I was on edge the whole time even if it not a reaction you should watch it in your free time. I was very excited to see her in the alien franchise until they made that stupid decision in alien covenant to give her the worst off screen death, but I still loved her as Shaw she really does make you love and root for the character they wasted a great final girl.
Hey Fusion (sorry, i don't know your real name), to Clarify something, Tge timeline would be Prometheus - Alien: Covenant - the cancelled Alien: Awakening - Alien (1979) - the videogame: Alien: Isolation - Alien: Romolus - Aliens (1986). Also, the Alien vs Predator movies are no longer considered canon. Great reaction, and i hope this helps to understand a bit of the time if this saga. And in case you don't know, there is going to an Alien TV show on Disney+ the first season has wrapped it's filming three weeks ago they are currently on production. The series will Completely ignore This movie and Alien Covenant and Stick to the origins of the Xenomorphs from the old comics, the Planet Xenomorph prime. great reaction as always, greetings from Argentina, hope to see your video on Covenant, tell me, did you know about the TV show?
@@scorp77snake nah, i don't think so, the showrunners Is a Fan, he even Talks about Parts of the Lore most people don't know, like the Red xenomorphs from the comics, and the reason he Is ignoring This movie and Covenant Is because he says these two movies "pieces of trash destroying the Legacy, Xenomorph are meant to be perfect creations of million of years of Evolution, not a Frankenstein experiment of a God wannabe Android" and Yes, he Said it like that
Is that why the guy from AVP is not considered the one who started the company? In the timeline series I have seen it is always Peter Weyland. He would be 119 in this.
@@jasonaugustine3370 exactly, the Canon Peter Wayland we see on this movie, whole the Peter Bishop Wayland from 2004 AvP Is not canon anymore on the Alien Franchise, but when it comes the Predator saga i think he Is, since in The Predator (as bad as that movie was, but still) you see the Spear Scar Made for Lex on the labs
I was really excited for this when it came out. I love Fassbender. I dunno but the plot seems a bit too complicated. A bunch of things don't really make sense. Nice effects tho.
I love when you said, "I wouldn't take the chance," as Holloway removed his helmet. So many people missed the point(s) of the film, one of which was that humanities hubris and their belief that they are equivalent to God(s) will ultimately lead to their downfall. Every character had their own vice and hubris, believing that they were experts in their individual fields. However, as they all learned, humanity is merely a tadpole in the ocean of the Cosmos.
Awesome reaction!! Can’t wait for Covenant. I love these movies because of the involvement of the Weyland and Weyland-Yutani companies and what their goals and intentions are. That’s the slow burn part of the movies I guess, but I love the concept and the themes and always want to see where the story goes.
idk if you’ve watched Covenant yet but I recommend watching the two prologues that were released on RU-vid before the movie came out. There’s “The Crossing” and “Last Supper” they have some interesting setup and feel like scenes that should have been included at the start of the movie.
Many people think this is an Alien film, but the underlying theme and structure is more like Blade Runner. A group of humanoids go on an expedition to see the god who created them. When they finally see the god, they ask: "Why did you create us?" and "Why are we mortal?" But the god does not give satisfactory answers, so they kill him. This time the expedition team brings an android with them -- they are gods to the android -- so the structure is nested, or updated from Blade Runner.
I don’t imagine that in any lab in any time that they’d just open some alien head up if they weren’t in a clean space and suited up with air in case of foreign contamination
Not the first xenomorph. The engineers have used the genetic accelerator/black good as a bio weapon way before this movie and did experiments with it in order to create the xenomorph. You see a mural of a xenomorph in their ship if you look closely. This is the basically the first outbreak the human witnesses when it comes to xenomoprhs. You see david put the black goo and the dudes drink in order to test the pathogen and what its capable of, hence why he got sick. Id explain on a bit further but dont want to spoil anything. What i said here aint a spoiler, i just know alot about the franchise and paid a bit more attention to this movie
This isn't a spoiler, but unfortunately there was unfair push back on this one because they wanted to see more xenomorphs.. So they went away from this more mystery sci-fi vibe. And I actually love this story about the Engineers.
this flick received a lot of hate from classic Alien franchise lovers, but I like the ambitious sort of philosophical angle mixed with the creature origin story. edit: i’m halfway thru this and the fly drama is poppin off lol
Prometheus: Attack of the Xenoflies Edit: Since you're asking, and I don't care to see if anyone else has said this, the AVP films aren't canon. To either franchise, I believe. Ridley Scott intentionally ignored anything in those films when making Prometheus and Covenant. Edit 2: The creature at the end, while it looks similar to a Xenomorph, is actually called a Deacon. Edit 3: I personally really liked this movie. I only started watching the franchise Sunday (so like a week) and have now seen Alien: Romulus twice, but I really liked this one. It was much more my style than than the original film was, and it disappointed me to know that, while I think Covenant is also pretty good, Ridley Scott was essentially forced to condense two planned Prometheus sequels into one because of the poor reception to this film. Which sucks. Especially because he also left Covenant a little open ended, and then wasn't allowed to continue with that story because Covenant did worse than Prometheus financially, and also had lower ratings than Prometheus. Just goes to show you can't really please anyone when it comes to Hollywood.
AVP films isn't part of the original films timeline. It's part of expanded comic books from the 1990's and the trend of horror movies (VS) cash grabbed of the early 2000's . Prometheus took a bold approach of telling a story without an Alien or Aliens running amuck ...Audiences complained when it first came out there were no xenomorphs...When Scott caved in and gave them not only xenomorphs but different type of Xeno's and variations of them in Covenant Audiences still complained . Damn if you do...Damn if you don't.
go back and re watch the original Alien movie, 35:34 in the original the crew of the Nostromo find an alien ship with a huge dead alien in a contraption just like the one seen in this film. as this is a prequel, that scene foreshadows the movie which started it all.
I'm a big fan of this movie. I also love Predators and was surprised to see all the hate on it. Of course I'm out of sync because I didn't really care for Aliens.
Off Topic MOVIE SUGGESTIONS!!!!!! --------------- Horror/Suspense: Cry Wolf, Along Came A Spider or You’re Next Comedy: The New Guy, Guess Who or Just Married Tearjerker: Midnight Sun, John Q or Charlie St Cloud Feel-Good(ish): We Bought A Zoo, Patch Adams or Serendipity Action: Negotiator, Enough or Double Jeopardy Animated: Rio 2, Turning Red or Brother Bear
I really wish Alien Romulus was based on the Alien novel River of Pain it explains exactly what happens to the colony on LV 426 Before Ripley and the marines show up it would have made an excellent movie perfect blend of action/Horror and sci-fi definitely would have been more excited for it's release
I wouldn't say that I'm a big Alien fan, but I have watched them all and honestly think that Prometheus and Covenant are better than anything post Aliens
This takes place before Alien. The ship Prometheus in this movie is the same one in the first Alien movie. The one they find on that planet. Also the giant face statue can be seen in Alien 1979
The Alien vs Predator films are not canon, so they don't fit into the alien universe and timeline at all. In the early 2000s we got a lot of these spoof films that had different universes colliding but most were just goofy and weren't ever meant to be part of the same universe, there was Freddie vs Jason films and Batman vs Predator comics. The only true Alien films are Alien 1, 2 and 3 (I do not consider Alien 4 canon as they basically tried to retcon Alien 3, which although heavily criticized, is still a better ending to the original trilogy than Alien 4 which was just utter nonsense) and then Prometheus, Alien: Covenant and Alien: Romulus. I do like Alien Vs Predator though, it's a fun film and brings back childhood memories but Prometheus was directed by Ridley Scott who directed the first film and essentially started the whole universe so he is essentially retconning the Alien vs Predator films with his new trilogy.
This is a great addition to the Alien franchise and very underrated, i like the film a lot although the original script explores some of the ideas about the origin of aliens and humans more. In the original script the engineers created humans because there species was dying out they went to different planets drinking the fluid that breaks them down in to DNA so that they could evolve in to a new species, humans were the only success, when they saw it had worked they took one human to there planet to teach them, the human was Jesus, but when they returned him to earth he was crucified for his knowledge. Executive producers didnt think that American audiences would like the scientific depiction of human creation involving Jesus so they cut it from the film unfortunately. Ridley Scott has spoken about it however and created Raised by wolves to explore some of the ideas he had for the franchise its an amazing show and the two lead actors are also in house of the dragon if you haven’t seen it you should watch it.
There is very heavy reference to greek mythology in this, not just the name 'Prometheus' the reason the alien trys to kill david is in greek mythology the fathers are always overthrown by their creations.....Uranus was defeated by son cronos defeated by son zeus, zeus brought down by 'son' man...so to the engineer manking is the child, but has created new life David. Indicating david will eventually overthrow humans....so a danger and abomination in the eyes of the engineer. there is more - you could write a whole essay on this!
With all the flies that you've encountered in this video, I think the movie that you should have been reacting to was The Amityville Horror (1979) or The Fly (1986). Future reaction video recommendations, if you haven't already seen them' that is.
i wouldnt have minded this being a prequel if they had at least TRIED to maintain continuity. that being said, this was an interesting take on the story. but i wanted.... more
This movie and covenant are the only two movies that I can actually watch It seems to me like every alien movie is the exact same thing Scary Zeno morph kills people It’s unstoppable Kind of bugs me I love movies with a lot of backstory and this has a ton of it
If you liked the movie, but felt something was off, please find and watch the Chaos edition of this movie. Far better. No idea why they cut up this movie so badly.
i think AvP is cannon to the predator universe but not the alien universe as xenomorphs have been built into the predator's lore being the main thing they like to hunt with predator's who have taken down a queen becoming blooded ones i think, where as far as i'm aware predators are not apart of the alien universe's lore, so xenomorphs exist in the predator universe but predators don't exist in the alien universe.
With this film, Alien vs Predator and Alien vs Predator: Requiem are no longer canon to the Alien franchise. Which is also true with Prey and the Predator franchise.
I'M SO SORRY!! I do remember you asking about that years ago. It's been on my watchlist ever since then, there's just SOO many movies out there it's hard to keep up. But hopefully it'll be something I can get to in the near future.
You still haven't watched "Constantine" 2005 with Keanu Reeves, "Cast Away" 2000 with Tom Hanks, "Whiplash" 2014, "The Impossible" 2012 with a young Tom Holland. How can this be?
7:54 ...lol every system has a sun .. so deamatic.... Rouge planets are a theory .. so the odds are stupid that we will EVERRRRRR find a planer not around a star/sun ....
A lot people hate this movie because they complained that the scientist ms are a bunch of idiots that don't know what the hell they are doing and it's always their fault that they mess with something that they shouldn't have.
“it’s carrying death and it heading for earth!” .. what a line! noomi’s performance in this is fantastic. overshadowed by fassbender’s but perfect for the role.
I get that Weyland wanted to live but WTH do they want these damn things for? I cannot see the point of endangering everything for the xenomorphs? Money? that is stupid. Any explanation would be appreciated.
