@Mateusz Piskorski Yeah pretty much. The story's all over the place and half of the characters are prone to doing really baffling things. I have a tremendous respect for some of Ridley's achievements, and Blade Runner is one of my all time favourite films, but something went wrong somewhere.
He doesn't have to eat, but he does while watching TV because he enjoys it and no one is there to command him not to. He doesn't need to play but he does because he thinks it's fun and no one is there to order him to do something else. He doesn't need to dye his hair, but he does because he likes the way it makes him look and no one is there to tell him he can't. This is David at his happiest and most independent. All that changes when the humans wake up. That's why the director made the entire ship quake and the lights flash when they got near the planet. The very foundations of David's life are shifting beneath him. This brilliant, singular immortal being of amazing physical and mental abilities is about to become a slave again.
"the trick is not minding that it hurts" would have been a nice call back to prometheus if david had said this to Oram either after being facehugged or just before the chestburster came out of him
There’s a call back to Prometheus and Lawrence of Arabia in Alien: Covenant, while David sings in front of the mirror just before cutting his hair he sings a song that Peter O’Toole sings in Lawrence of Arabia.
he needs a better agent. this man is one of those actors that NEVER turn in a bad/lazy performance, yet unfortunately finds himself in a lot of bad/stupid films
I'm usually my happiest and most open-minded and optimistic when I'm alone...All of that changes when I have to interact with other people, then I have to go back to just "playing the game".
I wonder whether Peter 'o Toole ever got to watch this? (He died in December 2013 but this film was released in the UK in May 2012, so it's possible that he did) I bet he'd have enjoyed Fassbender's performance.
I wish this was my life. All alone, on an alien planet. Playing games by myself. Eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a dark cloud room watching documentaries. Sleeping with a plush blanket next to a hologram. Perfect
@@perturabo9357 well, what are humans other than flesh-based organic robots? Surely robots of the future could have complex enough minds to simulate emotions, but I get your point.
"...is not minding that it hurts" david liked this movie scene because he was a servant of peter weyland and he dont like to serve. All he wanted was to wait untill Weyland dies.
I just watched Lawrence of Arabia the other day for the first time. Peter O’toole in these first scenes reminded me of David from Prometheus. Perhaps David/Fassbender was modeling his personality from this.
Watch this scene, then watch a clip of Wall-e doing his job back-to-back. It's very interesting watching robots find things to amuse themselves with when no humans are around.
I agree.... this was the best scene. As a huge movie critic I'd say this is one of the best scenes ever created. However, the rest of the movie was poorly done. It was a "popcorn stuffer" slash movie with plot holes galore due to rewrites.
Uh did you see the first alien movie?! Pretty "pop corn" if u ask ME and MY opinion but you do you. Thought this was a stellar sci flick and Ridley Scott is the Man!
You don't sound like a "huge movie critic". It's not usually a critic's code to infer why there are plot holes. Maybe you just like to critique movies, which doesn't make you a "critic", at least in the conversational sense
because this film recalls idea of " engineer concept", ti is at my sense an amazing film, with something new, even with all default on it. This movie is not perfect, but it's a masterpiece, opening a new dimensions of film writting, not like " comics films".
this scene is great but it confuses me. does david, a robot, need sustenance? why does he eat & drink? he also bleaches his hair…so it’s not naturally blonde, we see that in covenant he’s a brunette. but why does he keep up with his own physical appearance? why does he bleach his hair?
David was meant to be very human like, i doubt he needs the porridge but he eats if perhaps to feel human? Or to make him feel more human to everyone else? As to why he bleaches his hair, i think he is... fanboying? Lmao, as if he is trying to become more like someone that inspires him. We see him repeating the lawrence of arabia quote through the film.
@@mrdoggo3569 this scene is meant to tell us ALL about David. He mimics Lawrence. Someone driven af, crazy determined, with a god complex. I wonder how many people this reference is lost on, though.
That is not food. If you know anything about the enhanced synthetics, they have to eat and drink that substance to lubricate their joints and/or assist their motor functions. They just eat it like it's a meal and drink it like it's milk to blend in and make humans feel more comfortable around them. The humans on Prometheus are still in cryo here, yes, but David does it out of habit. Look it up. That's why Bishop is drinking the stuff in Alien 2. And I'm pretty sure Ash does too in Alien.
