That was definitely in New York. Lake Placid, Keene Valley area. High peaks.

There's no snow up in the Lake Placid or anywhere near White Face. It brown.

@@macfive4597 it seems that complicated. I like to do dangerous shit as safely as possible. I have no knowledge of what I'll encounter and it'd be nice to have two heads instead of one especially if I get in trouble.

Start low and slow…develop your mountain sense in more forgiving times of year…read and learn all you can (trail guides & maps, history of the area and earlier adventurers, tips and techniques, accident reports,etc.)…get to know your area of choice…expect the best outcome but be prepared for the worst…stretch your limits as your abilities and confidence grow…be humble and realistic about your abilities and situation…and get out there! The thing to remember about backcountry skiing is that the actual downhill is secondary to all the other things you must do to enjoy it! In the 35-40 years I’ve been playing in the mountains, 80% of the time I’ve been solo, and I’ve never gotten myself into trouble, largely because I’ve followed these steps. I’m not one that would usually encourage more people to get out in the already overcrowded mountains, but lack of partners or “professional” guidance should not be stopping you!
