I would say this is the most difficult aspect of the DJ game. I think the main reason most DJs are not good at it is: it's not DJing! Promoting yourself, marketing yourself is an art form all in itself. Most DJs became DJs to preform and play music, the promoting yourself is a completely different set of skills than the music part. Just because you can do one, does not mean you can do the other. That is why most DJs struggle with it. I wish I was good at that part, I would scoop up all these DJs that struggle with it, get them gigs and just take my % off the top. There is a tremendous opportunity there just waiting for the right lucky gent (or lady). Phil is right though- if you want gigs, you have to figure this out!
It's easy to say "put yourself in the shoes of your audience, then be what they want", but it's a lifetime's work! (Not least because audiences keep changing...)
@@digitaldjtips I feel like it is one of those things in the life that- as soon as you figure it out and get in groove with it, it changes and you have to rethink your approach (again and again). Just look at the shorts, Last year it was streaming and longer videos, now its Tik Tok and shorts, I am sure it will be something else in a year or two....
