Absolutely true. I have been using a Logitech Superlight intensively for several months on my Melamine table and the imitation wood image it has started to fade, I did not even know that was possible 😅
Exactly! Mousepads are specifically made to have micro details on it to make it easier and more accurate for the sensor to work. However that’s also a problem as it often adds quite a bit of friction. My mouse would quite consistently move incorrectly because of the desk I use, and a mousepad fixed that. Glass slides aren’t always beneficial either, especially with a hard and smooth desk, as it might move without you touching the mouse, might not be a huge issue for most people, but y’know. Also mousepads give a nice cushioning for my forearm and wrist. So I wouldn’t say *stop* buying mousepads, as glass skates/slides aren’t for everyone, but maybe try it?
Mouse pads were absolutely necessary when most mice used a rotating ball and optical encoders to measure movement in the X and Y plane. They're still useful these days with optical mice, but less critical.
I recommend getting a large sheet cut off of the side of a barrel containing crude oil, it allows for easier movement while simultaneously giving you a large area to work with
The mouse pad was invented for the old mice of the 90s that had the ball that rolled on the surface. without a mouse pad the ball might not roll or grip the table properly. They are also good for glass tables in the event your laser mouse can't detect a surface under it. And maybe to protect the table from scratches though most people probably use beater desk instead of expensive wood that has a nice finish like in the video. And lastly some use them purely for cosmetic reasons, especially in the case of the boob mouse pad or mouse pads that have cool prints on them. But yeah for a lot of people they are pretty useless, myself included.
@@Chazzvcalso modern mousepads still do help a little bit with accuracy, as they have a good texture, which while we can’t really see or feel too much of, the optical mouse can detect pretty well, as some desks don’t have very good and/or uneven texturing, so it might not detect very well.
My desk has holes in it and I must say my performance has certainly increased since ditching the mousepad. Avoiding the holes in the desk improves my focus and causes great anguish to anyone who attempts to use my computer. Great success.
I recommend pouring and rubbing a layer of gasoline into your wooden desk to reduce the friction and act as lubrication so that you will have a smoother mouse experience. Also make sure to use a mini blowtorch to torch the wood so that the charred ashes will fill in any wood gaps. This is the safest way. Glass mouse skates will break and wood will splinter. Using a mouse pad can cause covid. Use gasoline instead. Getting high is just an additional advantage. This was a joke, chill.
At that point you should just use pure crude oil. It’s more economical than gasoline as it has not been refined. It is also more flammable for when you char the desk so it does not splinter. It is a better more cost affective solution. This is also a joke🙃
It's not so much about the mouse gliding well, it's also my hand gliding well on the desk. Also the thing is there's some microscopic pirces of rock or something and the mouse just grinds against that.
In all seriousness, the point of a mousepad usually isn’t to make ur mouse smoother, that is an effect that the mouse pad does tho. The mouse pad is usually used to help prevent damage to the mouse and desk itself
@@Rabaikal wrist rests for mice are bad for your wrist health. Several studies and common sense says arm aiming is better (and more accurate because you have more room to aim) for long term health. You should hover your arms) wrists over both your keyboard and mouse so they don't hit the desk, but most people play with their wrists down anyway. You should also use smaller keyboards(Ortho and split keyboards, or steno for serious typists) so your arms are equal length apart with your shoulders.
The mouse pad has several uses: 1: It allows the laser better latency and tracking. 2: It's to prevent scratching of both the desk and the mouse. Using a mouse on a desk can cause a fleck of dust or other particulate to grind against the glass of the laser, which is BAD. 3: It's for comfort. If you use a mouse for long periods what do you want your wrist to rest on? Something soft, like a pad, or a rock-hard desk?
@@captteemo9133 Looking at some of the older models of laser mouse, the lens was practically kissing the desk, so this may not be the case anymore, however. It still was a problem. Some new high-performance models have the lens close to the desk with millimeters of space. The Pulsar X2V2 is one example (one I own).
I find it hard to believe that using a mouse directly on my desk wouldn't ruin the shit out of it. It's an antique desk at this point. Softish wood with nothing protecting it but the lacquer
When I used my laptop for high school and got a mouse for it, I realized that I didn’t have a mousepad, so I just used my 8th grade vocabulary book. Worked wonders.
used cardboard with a plastic coating. 0$ and very effevctive lol. its pretty easy to get cuz if you buy headphones or something you'll get a cardboard on the back you know? its hard to explain lol. if you know you know 😂😂😂
Honestly been saying this for years. Modern "gamer" (dum.dums) will talk about mousepad technology. Mouse pads were invented for MOUSE BALLS which haven't been around for 20 years. Thumbs up!
I stopped using mousepads a little over a decade ago after finding out my optical worked better without one. The pads are prone to collecting dust and grease off your hands that'll gum up around the laser sensor and is far easier to fully clean off a hard surface.
Glad I saw the first comment. This video is actually a reminder that I need to buy a mousepad. Most modern mouse fail to read the surface of some desks, specially shiny or ones with uneven surface, besides of developing worse carpal tunnel without proper pads.
Say what you want, but the white lacquer of my desk, really messes with my optical mouse. So… I use a sheet of regular sheet of checkered paper, to give the sensor proper texture to work with. And when it gets old and grimes after a few months, I can just recycle it and grab a new sheet. At that rate, this may even be more ecological then cleaning a textile mousepad.
My sweating hand slides good on a wood desk but i prefer a raw stone table, nice n' bumpy. U can feel the terrain in most of the games. Awesome experience.
@@telmaleal7287 I had to get rid of my glass desk. It was sturdy and lovely, but I could not stand how loud it was when things fell on it or when I'd place a mug or something down 😖😖😖 it's like nails on a chalk board to me
1. You would definitely scratch your table over time. 2. The mouse is a lot more noisy on the table. 3. If you are wearing short sleeves, the table is going to be a lot more uncomfortable as your arm is likely to stick to it. 4. Don't really need a 4th, do we? This is just a stupid thing to claim. Annoying
I use one of those microfibre cloths that come with glasses. On paper to provide some friction so the cloth doesn't just slide around everywhere. And a nail cutter and eraser on the corners to reduce jiggle. I play osu! with that.
I know this is a joke, but the moment I heard “wood desk” I couldn’t help but think about the fact that I used to use my computer on either my bed or carpet floor :,)
Preferably with mousepads, they actually help the mouse track better. if you use the glass skates and a mouse pad that has a tracking pattern or get a mouse that can be programmed to a mousepad you will have one hell of a good time
Mousepads were invented for ball mice to INCREASE friction, to provide a nice grippy surface for that ball to grab onto and roll properly. I still like to use one because modern optical mice require a textured surface to register movement, and a desk does not always provide the needed texture. Plus my mousepad has a Qi charging hotspot.
"Stop buying a mouse pad" Me who doesn't even have a PC or table and just have to lay on the bed with my laptop: "My entire bed is basically a mousepad at this point".
Same. Honestly before a got a desk I got so fed up with my mouse going over the creases in my sheets that I just bought an 8 dollar metal mousepad. It's worth it to at least have a small solid surface, and mine is pink✨✨
Mouse pads are there to increase friction and those mouse Don't fall down especially the wirless ones. He contradicted himself maybe involuntarily at the end 🤣
I agree that some people claim they are not accurate with high speed slide but the speed is not the issue they are not accurate. They just not used to the less friction
Not only this but some people don't like damaging their desks, no mater how clean you are or what feet you have on a mouse, dust will get caught underneath and scratch your desk leaving literally a massive tumbleweed illustration on your desk
Try replacing the DESK when the mouse feet have been scraping along the wood surface for years. And make sure your desk is absolutely clean and uniform, so the mouse doesn't skip even a little while you're in a ranked battle and every input counts.
It's not just about how well it glides, mousepads can also enhance consistency with tracking as some surfaces (specifically surfaces with texture/ designs printed on) can cause the sensor to be inconsistent and not track smoothly. This also applies to Mousepads with designs printed on them too. A plain solid color Mousepad is the best way to go and is cheaper. But if you don't mind spending a little extra for glass skates and don't notice any sensor inconsistencies with the surface your using your mouse on, it's a good upgrade. (Also i've heard glass skates don't work to well on mousepads so keep that in mind.)
I know that this is a joke but I went without a mousepad until my friend legit forced me to buy one. There’s a worn out spot on my desk now but now I have the moon on my desk
Now that I think about it after reading this comment I realized I haven’t been using a mousepad for 1 year now and theres a giant worn out spot where my mouse is on my wooden desk
@@zzyzxzzyzx "Okaaay, now we're gonna CLICK the 'Buy Now' button." (Forces hand on mouse over to the button) (Clicks button with other person's finger) "Remember, if you cancel the order... You know what happens." (Licks hand)
I was "forced" too because I was shopping with my friend at the store and he said to me "do you not need to buy these?" (Points at random keyboard and mouse) Because he knew I got a new PC and I bought it even though I wanted to think carefully before I buy because I wanted to look cool in front of him. And I thought oh yeah why not.
Bro, I got my desk from my dad who had it for a while, and neither of us have ever used mousepads on it. This has resulted in an area of noticable scuffs and scratches. If it was a nice desk that more money was spent on that'd be soul crushing. Spend a bit of money on a cheap mouspad and save your desk.
@@yokowasis that’s only if the mouse is stationary when you spin it. if you spin your mouse it’ll probably move a bit. lets say it moves forward relative to you whilst spinning, it’ll cause inputs in all directions relative to the center of the mouse.
Personally I find a wood surface to be inadequate, so I recommend casting a brand new ice sheet every day to use underneath your mouse in lieu of a mousepad. This combined with the glass skates really elevates the computer using experience to a level otherwise unobtainable.
The point of a mouse pad is to provide a uniform surface that plays well with the mouse's sensors, as well as a uniform texture that matches the feeling you want for a balance between sensitivity and resistance. Not to mention protecting whatever surface is underneath it from the repetitive action of swiping something over it constantly.
The Hog Rider is a fast ground troop with medium hitpoints, low damage, and the ability to jump over enemy Walls. He is unlocked at level 2 Dark Barracks. The Hog Rider (person) is a bare-chested dark-skinned man holding a hammer. He has a mohawk, wears a brown leather loincloth, a red belt, and a pair of leather sandals, as well as two large golden wristbands and a gold earring. His ride is a large hog, about half his height. It has a brown leather bridle looped around its tusks, which in turn is held by the Hog Rider. Hog Riders prioritize defensive structures above all other targets, and will bypass all other types of enemy buildings and troops while any defenses remain on the battlefield. This is true even if they are under attack by enemy Clan Castle troops, heroes or Skeleton Trap skeletons. Note that like all troops that prioritize defenses, Hog Riders do not consider the Clan Castle to be a defense regardless of whether or not it contains enemy troops, but do consider the defending Grand Warden and the activated Town Hall weapon (if any) to be defensive buildings. Once all defenses are destroyed, Hog Riders become like any other troop with no preferred target; they will attack the nearest building to them regardless of type, and will turn and attack enemy units if they become aware of any nearby. He can be used to jump over any level Walls, rendering them ineffective against Hog Riders. Note that while this allows Hog Riders free access to what lies behind the Walls, it does not open up gaps for other troops to move through. If the Hog Riders need the support of other ground troops, you will still need to deploy Wall Breakers, a Jump Spell, or Earthquake Spells in order to assist them. Hog Riders can be used en masse, i.e. a "Hog Rider Rush", without requiring any Wall Breakers to break Walls. However, such a strategy can be costly in terms of Dark Elixir, and sports weaknesses against defending Clan Castle troops, Heroes, and Skeleton Traps, a problem which only becomes more prominent at higher levels. At Town Hall 10 and above, Hog Riders can be combined with Miners in a strategy known as Miner Hog Hybrid. Both troops are able to bypass Walls innately, but Miners do not have a preferential target, allowing them to cover for Hog Riders by dealing with defending Heroes and Skeleton Traps. The combination also has weaknesses against flying Clan Castle troops, as neither are able to target air. At lower levels, Hog Riders are quite capable of acting as distracting troops like Giants; they have nearly as much health as a similar-level Giant, move twice as fast, and do considerably more damage. They work well with the Healing Spell when you group several of them together. A good tactic for using Healing Spells is to place them strategically on a cluster of defenses (at least about 3 or more) and also deploy them shortly before the Hog Riders arrive in the area, i.e. deploy them ahead of the Hog Riders. This is so that the Hog Riders get the most out of the Healing Spell, and destroy the defenses without losing too much HP. Spots where Giant Bombs or Bomb Towers are/may be should be given special attention when deploying Healing Spells. Hogs of the same level as the Giant Bomb will survive a single Giant Bomb, but they're helpless against a pair of Giant Bombs even with a Healing Spell. Heal them after they've gone through a Giant Bomb blast. The Hog Rider is one of the best troop types for drawing out Clan Castle troops, as it can avoid Walls to penetrate deep enough to reach centrally-placed Clan Castles (and enough health to not die before it gets there). Deploy one or a few to trigger the Clan Castle troops, then lure the reinforcement troops to the corner side, and deploy multiple Archers or Wizards to slaughter them, and then deploy the remainder of your Hog Riders. This strategy is especially effective during Clan War raids. However, Skeletons from the Skeleton Trap and Heroes can also easily kill the Hog Riders, as they can only target defenses, so make sure to have some troops that target anything, such as Wizards, which can swipe out the Skeletons. Hog Riders don't target air so flying Clan Castle troops, especially Dragons, can be a big threat. Most mass Hog Rider strategies in Clan Wars require that the Clan Castle troops be killed first by luring. Bring other troops in addition to Hog Riders, such as Wizards, to deal with enemy Clan Castle troops and clean up the base. Poison Spells can be used to kill almost any enemy Clan Castle troop, but beware as the troops will attempt to flee the poison. If the Poison Spells are decently leveled, and you effectively keep the Clan Castle troops from escaping the Poison Spell with distracting troops, they can eliminate almost any troop. They can also be used to dispense of those pesky Skeletons risen from the Skeleton Traps. Time is also a factor to consider. With only 3 minutes in an attack, it is essential to make sure that this whole process and the remainder of the attack is done as quickly as possible to avoid running out of time.Defending against Hog Riders is tricky, as their ability to bypass Walls renders them irrelevant. However, the fact that they can jump over Walls and attack defenses means that they may leave behind their ground support (such as Barbarians, etc.), as they will not be able to follow. This will allow your interior defenses to concentrate on the Hog Riders. Another way to defend against Hog Riders is to exploit the fact that they will attack the closest defensive building. You can arrange your base in such a way so that you have high-powered defenses on the inside and lower-powered defense on the outside, with a layer of resources in between. That way, the Hogs will (in theory) complete a loop around your base before being able to attack your interior defenses (Inferno Towers, X-Bows, etc.), by which time they should have all been killed by the interior defenses. You can place Spring Traps in between defensive buildings to take out a few Hog Riders at a time; good usage of multiple Spring Traps can severely hinder a Hog Rider rush. Hog Riders can be easily killed using "forced pathing". Forced pathing is a strategy that manipulates the Hog Rider AI and makes them go to at least 2 defenses that cannot be prevented by surgical dropping or side clearing. Placing a set of Giant Bombs in between the two can most certainly hinder the attacker progress. They would not be able to heal the Hog Riders in time. Clan Castle troops, Heroes, and Skeleton Traps set to Ground Mode can be an annoyance to mass Hog Rider raids, as Hog Riders will not attack them unless all defenses have been destroyed. Make sure to centralize them if you want to beat Hog Riders. In Clan Wars, Dragons are excellent troops to place in Clan Castles against Hog Riders, especially for Town Halls 8 and 9. They have high HP, meaning they won't die easily and can kill mass quantities of Hog Riders swiftly if not properly lured. Most mass Hog Rider strategies require that the enemy Clan Castle troops be killed first, so if the attacker lures out a Dragon, but fails to kill it, then a 3-star win is next to impossible, much less a 1-star win via destroying 50% of the buildings. Multi-target Inferno Towers can be a severe hindrance to Hog Riders, having high HP to take several hits from Hog Riders, while hitting large groups of them. Although the Hog Rider is certainly not a liability on defense, the fact that all defensive troops are unimpeded by Walls negates the primary advantage of the Hog Rider. Still, for the space they take they are faster and more damaging compared to Giants. The Hog Rider undergoes significant visual changes at levels 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Initially, the Hog Rider is a dark-skinned man with a black mohawk and beard. He also has a gold earring in his right ear and sports two heavy golden wristbands, a red belt, and a brown loincloth. The Hog Rider's hammer has two brass bands. At level 3, his hammer increases in size and turns black. The brass bands on the hammer's head disappear, and the hammerhead goes further down onto the stick, creating a button looking object on the top of the hammerhead. At level 5, his mohawk turns from black to orange, making it similar to that of a level 5 Goblin. At level 6, his hammer gains three large, golden spikes and a bronze plating. At level 7, the edges of his hammer start to glow red, and he gains a brown headband but reverts to a black mohawk. At level 8, his hammer is now mostly golden. His hog also gains a headband. At level 9, the gold on his hammer is much thicker. His headband also lightens in color. At level 10, his hammer turns a bright light blue color that resembles the look of ice. This matches the theme of Town Hall 13. It also gains a small same-colored glow. At level 11, his hammer turns a light greenish color. This matches the theme of Town Hall 14. His hog gains gold armour on its face and muzzle.
For some people it is impossible to use the desk because of the many imperfections on it, the type of people who need to use a sheet of paper in order to use the mouse properly For them the mouse pad is a blessing ❤
Mousepads are usually very large, can take up a whole desk, fabric stitched and usually with rubber underneath. You can place your keyboard on top also. They usually work very well. Mousemats are small, cheap plastic, go next to your keyboard, and the glossy ones are near useless
Well mines is a rough surface so i think a mousepad would be somewhat useful to me and money has been quite tight so i do need to buy a mouse pad rather than replacing my entire table.
hey, tip for people with a table that isnt smooth and who dont wanna buy mouse skates: tape a piece of paper to your desk and use that as a mousepad! it works pretty well
Meanwhile in an alternative universe Eiman09 wrote a comment about someone in an alternative universe explaining why mousepads are useless and you can use glass mouse skates
@@idontevenlikepotatoesthatm5947 meanwhile in another universe I don't even like potatoes that much doesn't write a comment about how in an alternate universe Emian09 says in a another universe someone is saying glass mouse skates are useless and we should use mouse pads.
What are other advantages? Scratching your desk surface? Resting your hand on hard surfaces? It might be usable but it brings nothing in comparison to a mouse pad.
Mousepads optimize the DPI tracking of the mouse. Because shiny materials like varnished wooden desks reflect the lasers in weird unpredictable ways. Mouse pads are a uniform texture and are not shiny, making them consistent. Not super important for mundane stuff like working a desk job. But for something like gaming where accuracy is paramount, mousepads are essential.
The reason why I need a mousepad is becouse my wooden table has spots where when I have spilled drink on it it has absorbed some of it and there are now rough spots so that wouldn't be very nice to glide on.
2 reasons to use a mouse pad. 1.) 16 hours a day of mouse use WILL cause wear on a desk. Trust me… 2.) The desk reflective value can prevent the mouse from performing optimally and can cause mouse drift or lag. Some of us do not have a muted phong desk surface as illustrated in the video. The finish used on the desk (or even glass) can make it impossible to use.
Never used mouse pads (actually only a sheet of paper if the mouse was optical), and got none wears on my wooden table (wasn't vernised so it didn't reflected much light), the only thing that wears out is the default mask of the mouse which decreases by time using it
I just use a standard g305 and a standard mouse mat. Hit global elite using it and continue to perform well with it. Gear won’t make you better, that’s just time. Best to use what you’re comfortable with and enjoy using whether that’s a glass mousepad, normal cloth mouse mat, no mouse mat at all. ^^ for those people who see stuff like this and instantly think they need to buy a product to improve.
The primary reason for a mousepad is to prevent damage to the desk as it much easier to replace a used and torn mouse pad than a whole new desk, and for gaming, specifically fps games it’s always better to use a solid black surface to keep consistency. Though I will say that does look fun as hell to use
I haven't used mouse pads in years, i thought they were annoying. My aim has actually improved, i think it's 'cause i have more space to move without the constraints of the pads. It definitely damages the desk but I don't really care.
I still prefer a mouse pad because my desk (or any desk Ive used my mouse on) have grooves and imperfections that suck to slide over, but with a mouse pad, the imperfections disappear
You need to understand that not everyone knows who you are so provide context if you don't want complaints, otherwise stop being mad at people taking the joke too seriously.
