Andre Drummond was like a 39% FT shooter his first 5 years as a Piston. His 6th season if I recall, he suddenly bumped his FT shooting up dramatically to like 65%. When he was asked about it, and I'm paraphrasing, he said that he just had to put in the work. 😂 Took the man 5 years surrounded by NBA players and coaches, kind of was the key component on those Pistons teams, to figure out he needed to practice free throw shooting to become a better free throw shooter.
@@yoitsSmitty2004Drummond got that contract based on current production and upside. As a Pistons fan I was able to watch it get to his head, had him thinking he had arrived. If he would have focused on the things he was asked to do (setting good screens, rolling hard to the basket, protecting the paint) he would have been elite. Instead, you had this guy thinking he was Embiid and that the offense should run through him. Pouting when he didn't get the ball. Modesty and humility would have served him well.
bro giannis is hitting like 30% on threes and 65% FTs 💀 I'm a bucks fan and he's my mvp pick, but this year his shooting hasn't been great. Yeah that's better than Simmons but that doesn't say much
The skill in the league now don't have room for any players that doesn't improve! Ben got a paycheck and doesn't put in the work! That's why guys like Kobe, Jordan, and other guys who work non stop and rep and rep after rep using the space on the floor and having both ends of the game, if you can't put up points off the bench, or as a starter you best be a shut down Center and get tons of rebounds or you're playing in China or if you're lucky the G spot 😂
Glad I'm not a 76ers or Nets fan. So Ben Simmons jump shot doesn't get me in my emotions. So I hope some of you are 76ers or Nets fans to be that upset.
Well he deserves everyone for how pathetic his mentality is. Dude had to sit out an entire season because people called him out for not playing well the dude is just an oversized toddler
That’s his role tho .. he a two way playmaker .. he’s a versatile Draymond Green .. his role was to be the playmaker and guard your opponents best player and mfs wanted him to shoot 😂😂
@@byronthomas9849 Shit, even Draymond has hit some big 3s… Ben is only taller / more athletic. I’d rather have Draymond, at least he’ll shoot if need be and even more importantly, he ain’t soft…
That's because he was on the pistons, his is a rookie, and he attempts less than 2 threes a game. I guarantee that in 2-3 years he'll be a much better shooter.
I was thinking the same thing. Fultz shot was actually much worse than Ben. Honestly Simmons needs a sports psychologist. Yet more likely he just doesn't care anymore. He just wanted to secure the bag and he did. God bless 😂
Fultz was in a motorcycle accident that gave him nerve damage in his shoulder. The Sixers didn't disclose the information because they knew that it could possibly tarnish his career and it would look bad for their organization.
Yea it’s so sad to see bc as a sixers fan I was so excited to get a 6’10 point forward that does everything but shoot bc I was thinking it’s not that hard to improve your shot but boy was I wrong Ben Simmons is the biggest what if in nba history even over d rose like he was supposed to be lebron 2.0 😭😭😭
@@peacemaker4829 if he hade that we would’ve had a dynasty with butler too screw Tobias buckets would’ve stayed if we beat the f’ing raptors and won the chip
@@phillymatt24c11 Yeah y'all would've had a ring for sure. Jimmy definitely would've stayed. Hell it was probably Ben's soft ass that made Jimmy not want to stay
What does this have to do with Ben Simmons🤔? He's not the only guy in the league that can't shoot. Shooting isn't something everybody can do equally with the same practice. Do you also believe you would become a high flyer if you just do jumping drills?
@@jamalgibson7820 I would become a better jumper if I practiced jumping, I’d become a better shooter if I practiced, a multimillionaire with access to the best trainers, and equipment on earth doesn’t stay a bad shooter unless he just doesn’t practice or he has a legit learning disability
@@FallenCitys Bro your theory is that every great shooter practices more than every non shooter. I'm telling you that's not true. Dwight Howard wouldn't leave the gym until he MADE 500 free throws everyday at one point. The best free throws shooter on the team didn't shoot nearly as much. There is something natural to shooting just like athleticism. It might be hand size, softness of hands, mental or whatever but there's something to it.
@@FallenCitys as a bigger player EVERYTIME you hoop you will be begged to sit under the rim and never take shots regardless of if your shooting is better than other players on the court, fucks with you mentally. If I go to the park right now as a 6'5 man I will never get the ball if I sit at the 3 point line, its to the point I can't even anticipate that I'll be allowed to shoot by my teammates so unless I ignore it Ill just have to watch possessions get thrown into the garbage by peoples ego
@VforVengeance159 $$ is a big part of the problem. These kids get huge deals before the accomplish or prove anything. This disincentivizes people. They are already paid, so who cares.. only those who really love the game or care about their image will work hard to continue to improve.
You didn’t prove Ben doesn’t or does do anything, but you did good job in showing us the hard work Ausar put in and proving what he has achieved and will achieve.
im a football player n i could barely shoot when i hooped in high school. literally jus kept shootin n if i get hot n lucky my shot gon start goin now 😂😂😂😂 Ben jus don’t give a shit
Instead of securing 2 more bags he only cares about the one? Dude can easily get another fat Contract after his contract is up if he put the work in and became ever a decent shooter and stayed a top defender. Once his contract is up no one is going to want him and he'll be out of the league or a back up. Dude is a idiot if he doesn't get back in the lab and practice non stop and get better
What a load of shit, so disrespectful to the game. He's completely destroyed any chance of having a legacy and he has to live with that everyday. People will give him shit for the rest of his life now. Is it worth it?
That’s what I been saying!!! He used to be a better jump shooter earlier in his career. Not great obviously but better than now. It’s clearly more of a mental thing, I bet his jumpshot don’t look too bad when he’s by himself 🤣
Yeah I’m not sure how a different player improving his shot is proof Ben Simmons doesn’t work on his game. It’s not like Simmons is out there chucking up bricks. He’s afraid to shoot them which to me is a completely different issue.
tbf he’s averaging less than 15% in the nba rn. he’s a great player but to compare an nba player to a (at the time) highschool aau player and then him go into the nba and shoot less the 15% is wild
I think this applies to (my favorite player in the 2010s😔) Russell Westbrook. The difference is he could shoot a decent jumper in the mid range and he was so athletic he could just be a slashing scoring playmaking guard and it worked for the time being (meaning getting to the WCF and finals, his strengths far outweighed his weaknesses). But there were mechanical issues with his jump shot and sometimes the speed he played at allowed for no rhythm to shoot effectively. I remember him trying to listen to the criticism and be more selfless and play different and it basically didn’t have him play to his strengths the team needed and he reverted. I think it takes some hard coaching, some time of being uncomfortable and taking a temporary decline to your game, some hard training but it can pay off in the end in making a more lethal effective player and prolonging his benefit to a team in the NBA
If you see RW shooting in practice his mechanics and positioning are good, it's just that in game situation he tends to get to sloppy with that when shooting.
Russ had one of the most automatic pull up jumpers in the league. I don’t know if not working hard contributed to his jumper getting worse. Seems more mental and out of all the things we hear about Russ, hard worker isn’t one.
@@enamuossuo I mean the average MBA player can shoot like 70% when no one is guarding them. That’s when no one is guarding him, and he still is some things in his shot that make it a little inconsistent or mechanically lacking. His rhythm I think is the biggest factor and his shooting hand, most good shooters and shoot it off the dribble smoothly but Westbrook has to go from a big hesi. Other than that he moves to fast and abrupt and jumps high, all these things affect your shot accuracy
I’m glad you mentioned Markelle Fultz, he fixed his jumper and his free throw, bad and now he has been playing really well for the magic and improved from the field
The hard part is fixing your form. It’s hard to break out of your comfort zone with your form. I went through it. But over time my form and shooting ability improved immensely. Ben still has the same looking jumper he did in his rookie szn. He doesn’t even try 😂
Ben got the bag, stopped trying and then used Mental health as an excuse to not play. "He's got anxiety issues, but not anxious enough to stop cashing them 40 mil checks..."
J Kidd was not a much of a shooter during his prime, but when he became a role player during his Knicks and Mavs days, he developed his shot…but it took 10 years lol
Bro is shooting under 60% from the line and under 20% from 3. Putrid. Hot take: You can't sell me on this overtime elite or g league ignite stuff. Not one player has been ready for the nba. Scoot, kuminga, Thompsons, jalen green, Dyson Daniels. All of them very Cleary lacked refineman or the ability to play team basketball that you learn in college or overseas. They instead learned mixtape, TikTok viral style basketball and it doesn't translate.
The thing is, with the right training and amount of reps ANYONE can develop a killer shot, the difference is we don't have the height, raw athleticism, or general physical talent to make the NBA and don't have the time required to improve our shot to that degree. Game pressure is part of it too
Well, his physique would indicate that to be the position he should play. But in that brain of his, he thinks he is supposed to be the point guard when he is on the court.
@@stevebabiak6997 I’m 6’2” and I’m college I used to like to play center. Until I had to guard Ken Johnson and Gary Trent. Then I focused more on guard play
You’re right? He is one. However, in todays league, you need to be able to shoot at all positions on the court and if you can’t you’re at a disadvantage
You can’t expect people to have the some progression trajectory at everything they do. Everyone has a friend that has been playing video games for a decade, 6 hours a day, and yet they still suck. It’s entirely possible that he did work hard at his jump-shot and for whatever reason it just didn’t progress to a point where it was more helpful than hurtful. It would have been a much better use of his time to become even better at the things he was already good at. Penetrating, passing, rebounding, defense.
If you practice enough & put in the hard work, your confidence will grow as well. He doesn't have confidence because he knows he can't shoot the ball because he hasn't been working on his shot. Very simple.
It aint about comparing it's about professionalism. Ben is nba superstar he should be working on his game better especially with his shooting. He can't always rely on his talent but he also needs work ethic.
@@gavrielmusheyev141 I got it man but still he's a pg. So at least he should be able to shoot there no excuses for saying he's bigman or whatever else. Cuz even big man like giannis or even kd with the same height as ben still trying to shoot and keep practicing too with their shooting. Im not hating but i hope ben realised that he needs changed.
As a Raptors fans, i saw Jonas Valanciunas go from not shooting threes to shooting threes in one off-season. Now in New Orleans, he's been a constant threat to shoot 3s as a stretch 5.
Simmons can shoot, he just gets overwhelmed easily, if you watch his pregame and watch college highlights, hes lethal, he just lets his anxiety get to his head during games and misses alot
@ahmodbonny4811 6'10 guys who can pass and take even smaller defenders off the dribble don't grow on trees. His lack of shooting is THAT big a handicap to what we see today. Kobe himself called it years ago.
I hate when people talk about this because ben doesn’t shoot with his dominant hand. no amount of practice, tweaking or training is gonna fix that unless he switches to his dominant hand.
