Uhh "hovercraft?" And his famous works? Wait did you mean HPLovecraft? That would make sense. Lemme guess fucking auto correct strikes again? LOL happens to the best of us. I texted my friend to ask how long she'd be in the Dr's offic(I was her ride) well it somehow became show me your lingerie!!😫
@@CChissel exactly. smaller squids can break open a material that is 20 times stronger than steel but when it attacked a submarine it didn’t damage it at all ??? sounds off
@@LebronShaqthe2nd pretty easy to understand why. theres nothing small enough for the squid to get its beak on and bite save for maybe the periscope and any antenna.
well, not entirely true... The Giant squid has much longer arms, but the Colossal Squid has a thicker body and is heavier. The body lenghth might be about be about the same, it's maybe even in longer in the Giant Squid.
@@daking912 "biggest" seems to imply width and mass more than length. I don't call a very tall, but skinny guy "big" if his mass is less than a heavier guy that's a little shorter. I call him " long, " or " tall"
I just did some more reseach, and the facts around those squids are heavily debated! The biggest giant squid ever found had a body length of 2.25m while the biggest collossal squid had a length of 2.5m. But the bodies might stretch over time the longer they are dead, but they can also shrink if they are conserved in salt water. So all that doesn't really help getting accurate measurements 😅 The biggest Giant squids ever found wheighs idk how much (because they never mentioned it where I looked), but it's estimated to be 300kg. The biggest collossal squid weighed 450 kg and 495 kg when they measured it again 🤣 The longest Giant squid was close to 13m long. The longest Collossal squid was probably about 10 m (before it shrunk to 5m when it was measured again). Collossal squids might reach about 12-14m in length. If you extrapolate the body size based on the size of their beaks (of giant squid beaks that have been found in a sperm whale), Giant squid bodies might also reach 3m. That would make them 19m long. So overall we don't know much about their maximum sizes and weights.... But the average Giant Squid is longer and the average Collossal Squid is heavier.
"...with eyes the size of a soccor ball!!" * shows basketball next to eye * 🤦🏻♀️😂😂 I think your video editor, or the script editor, made an uh-oh, WATOP! 😂 Still, it was just as informative and entertaining a video as ever! Thanks for the unintended laugh! 😜😂
You will be fine as long as you don’t go out past the sand bar which is usually about 1/4-1/3 of a mile out. Nothing gigantic will be swimming in the shore side of the sandbar. And you can still experience all the beautiful things of the ocean. Standing on the sand bar is very cool as well. You swim out to it and once you get there you can stand on it and the water is only like a foot deep. You can feel with your feet where it drops off. I love the ocean. Iv seen sharks out past the sand bar several times but Iv never seen anything harmful other than jelly fish on the shore side of the sandbar.
It always make me slightly chuckle when people question why animals like squid attack or grapple onto boats well for one thing your in its home so of course its gonna investigate the new thing and the second point I have is that squids and octopi are one of the few non-mammal creatures that can have personalities so they probably did out of either curiosity, boredom or spite
I heard a girl on a college trip in the Gulf of Mexico picked up an octopus they found and it bit her! and then it was in an aquarium and turned bright red whenever this girl came in. and it began sneaking around the place nobody could keep him locked up.
Squid don't have very long life spans, so for one to get truely massive to attack a boat would have a better chance to survive if it's natural predators were reduced, like during the whaling periods when sperm whale population were reduced, might explain why boating attacks are so rare but that they did happen.
In the early 1980's, the USNS Hess was in a drydock (SF Welding?) in San Francisco. It had some kind of very large rubber coated radar pod underneath the hull. There was a series of tarps around the hull covering up the bottom of the ship from prying eyes. They prohibited anybody not authorized from going into the drydock while other work was being done topside and in machinery spaces where I worked. There were armed guards posted. One night, some of the night shift yardbird machinist crew snuck down into the drydock. They told me that the big radar pod had ''bite marks'' and ''huge claws'' still embedded in the rubber coating. Whatever was under the ship while it was on duty came up from the depths and attacked that pod. At the time, I was told that the Hess was a spy ship that ''looked under the water'' and the other ship I worked on very often, the USNS Observation Island, ''looked at things in the sky and space''. I wish I knew more about the ship assignments. I could write a book on the rumors I heard in dealing with these 2 ships over a few years.
Careful there with your comparison of Kevlar and steel-Kevlar is actually only 5x stronger than steel not 20x, and that is specifically *in tension per weight*; it is still susceptible to sharp objects because it is fabric, although there are resin Kevlar variants that are harder. A piece of Kevlar that holds 20kg will be larger than a piece of steel holding 20kg, but the Kevlar will weigh less. A pice of Kevlar the same size as steel will be much less capable of stopping a blade or sharp beak than the steel.
Yeah they make quite a few mistakes in this video. Showing a great white instead of an oceanic white tip shark. Showing that sperm whales grow up to 108ft (so larger than the blue whale then? Impressive) An interesting video for sure, but i think you have to filter out the crap.
I noticed that as well. Also kevlar is not nearly as good at stopping bladed weapons as it is high velocity projectiles. I would assume the shearing force of a squid beak would be more like the former of the two. So why would they bother testing it on a material not intended to withstand those forces in the first place?
Really blows your mind when you stop and think.. What else is down there that we simply have no clue even exists? Possibly even bigger than a giant squid.
Yep.. what u say is true an that's why it's the only cat that don't go for the throat becithey knows it's power an knows it can easily jus bite threw the skull an alot of people also think cimans are really small compared to Crocs an gators but there is only like 2 gotor or croc breads that are bigger then the caiman an one of them is the salt water croc an I think the other is like maybe the Nile croc or gator smh can't remember but yes the caiman isn't small at all but the Jaguar does go for the smaller ones like child or hurt ones like jus about all other animals do when trying to take down a animal
Yes but a larger Jaguar would probably have a higher bite force than a smaller one. He wasn’t comparing two different species, just a larger version of the strongest one we know of so far.
I just discovered your channel in the last week or so (I think -- maybe I re-discovered it after a few years or something, given how many different channels show up on my sidebar).... I just have to take a minute after watching at least 30 of your videos this week to say KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! Your videos are fascinating -- thank you so much! I'm not a big commenter, but I give all the thumbs up possible & have a "watch later" bookmark folder & your awesome enough to warrant your own sub-folder haha
Never forget the story of Olivier de Kersauson. He was a multi hull sailing hero. And he was from a fisherman family and he had been in the French Navy. One day his catamaran stopped making any progress in the middle of the Atlantic. He sent somebody down, opening a life hatch and take a look. The man watched and returned to De Kersauson. Sir, it is a huge octopus, clinging to the hull. It looks scary. When a French Navy officer calls it scary, you bet it is a large octopus! This really happened. And engaging the engine in reverse made it go away. I tell you all this story, because giant squid and giant octopus really exist. Be prepared, when you own a yacht. You never know, you might see such a scary creature.
@@garrettfritzlen Well, dudes who served some years in the Navy are not scared for no reason. No matter what country, these officers can prolly teach you a lesson. When a lieutenant is scared for an octopus, you'd shit your pants, to say the least. Visamin, sorry I'm rude.
Well they had boats as well but maybe it might of washed up on the beach like maybe a dead one cause that's how Japanese an stuff heard an found out about that really long skinny fish I think is called like a angel fish or ore fish or something smh I'm not really sure what it's called at the moment but I think that's it's probably things like that or like I said maybe a father saw one while hom an his friends where our fishing for dinner or fish to sell in the market an saw one an then told his son an then he told his friends an it jus gets more vicious and more bigger with every telling of the story lmao but I could never really know the reason but that is jus my guess
Sometimes they might see it as normal animal but exaggerated it too looks like fun story like how modern Movies make about fiction story about star wars or alien like thanos Ancient people probably does the same but with real animal
kevlar is against bullets of against abraisens in case of a motorcycle accident a slow sharp object can puncture kevlar you can stab through kevlar with a knife you cant stab through a steel plate with a knife that keval helps against bullets is because of all the layers and the bullet just espands and gets stopped i doubt a squid can bite through 20 steel plates 20 times as strong depends on object 20 times as strong against bullets maybe
Yes lol tha k u for somebody saying something cause it all depends on how it is use an with using information like that u can make an argument out of jus about anything with the wrong context an info lol so thank u for saying something an speaking up on this cause when RU-vidrs an people say stuff like this alot of the viewers jus ignorantly believe anything they say without thinking about it
The thing with Kevlar plates, from what i understand, is they are much like carbon fiber. It is strands of Kevlar in resin designed to create solid structures. Very unpractical for body armor protecting from bullets, but useful for a wide arrangement of bullet resistant vehicles and such that don't need flexibility and can benefit from the added stab resistance of the mixture of Kevlar strands and resin.
Bro he was clearly just hitting his head against an unbreakable wall that he believes seperates him from his long lost ship friends who set out to sea 40years ago
The kraken has been described in different variations in mythology as different things and different sizes. The kraken based on sightings in mythology range from a whales private, a giant pacific octopus (biggest on record is 25 feet), various squid we have found live and dead. Video footage is available too. A more interesting topic would be what was the leviathan?
Actually there was an octopus tentacle that washed up on a beach in Florida that was in the newspapers,,,,it was 75 feet long,,,if it's 75 feet on one side and 75 on the other how big was the octopus,,,covered half a football field,,,smart people in the interview said it tangled with a shark or whale and it was bit off,...we don't really know much about the oceans,,,just glad I live a few hundred miles from it,...ohhh welll.
The leviathan is a sea serpent...More importantly a crocodile. Those who wrote the Bible had a really weird thing against reptiles specifically in the old testament concerning the demonization of serpents/dragons. Crocodiles have also been seen in the sea and there's been accounts of them killing sharks too.
the ‘kraken’ is just a giant squid. The sailors probably just saw squid gripping onto ships, poking holes in it, and the ships buckling under it’s own weight as it goes down. The kraken legend is born. But there was a fear of it because that was probably before the sperm whales ate most of them and before they dove down to the depths.
The kraken size is also bs they probs just had the giants latch onto the ships as they tried to stay afloat and since ships are big then why not? There's a vid justifying this theory on yt where a squid latches onto a surfboard as it was near death
This is exactly why you admire the ocean beauty from the sandy beaches during day break and sun set. There really isn't a real need to submerge ourselves into it. There are ginormous aquatic animals fighting each other for freakin food, for crying out loud. Respect their battle grounds or suffer the consequences 😉
A very high psi bight force for sure. What makes the squids bight so devastating though is the shape, size and sharpness of it's beak. That 1000psi is concentrated down to a small area rather than a crocodiles bite that is distributed over a much larger area.
Saying that the bite force is less than a crocodile is a bit misleading... in so far as pounds per square inch. The crocodiles jaw produces more power but is spread out over a much larger surface..the squid's beak has a interlocking sharp point that all of the force is focused on and acts like shears. Thank you for another great video.
Did anyone notice that all the squid attacks we're ROUGHLY 50 years apart? Could it be possible that these are the ones we're looking for? And they only go after bigger pray after sustaining for long periods of time. Considering we know that sea creatures that live in the depths of the ocean eat less frequently?
Wait a minute! So the first example you gave said they could bite through 2 kevlar plates. Then you say there’s bigger ones out there that could possibly bite through a human hand with bone. What the heck do we even need kevlar for then??
Always question everything. Even if it comes from a specialists, doctor, scientist. This channel and others like it tend to have wrong information. Including this video.
Skin 14 inches thick ? Maybe centimeters not inches. Edit: I googled it and it is inches. Wow. That plus the fat they have means they’re almost bullet proof
Scientists love to explore old shipwrecks to find answers. Has anyone explored that Bay of Bengal ship Because if there are other ships around the world that are older and still in fact we might be able to find that 1 and see if there are any actual similar marks mark's that a squid would leave Because if there are other ships around the world that are older and still in fact we might be able to find that 1 and see if there are any actual similar marks mark's that a squid would leave
And if I'm not mistaken, with those great big eyes, they also share the brilliant evolutionary trick of no blind spot (like octopuses have no blind spot bc their eyes developed independently from mammals like us).
My gosh bro....you make me want to hit Starbucks every morning! Always informing with new aquatic life also! Cool guy u are.....your voice is just made for this!
