When using leca to propagate, how much water did you put at the beginning and do you drill a hole on the side of the glass jar? And how often did you water it after? I have bought a hoya in the mail and I put it in leca (with reservoir) and it seems it suffers from root rot. I wonder if the hoya can be revived using the method that you show in the video.
Your Hoya are growing in a container without drainage. How do you manage the drainage? Do you just wait for the water to disappear? How do you take care of salt build up on LECA without a drainage hole? Thank you.
When I propagate I use only water, no nutrients. So there is no salt build up. And yes, I just add water as it disappears. It’s very similar to just sticking them in a glass of water to propagate. You can check out some of my other semi-hydro videos to see me full setup with drainage and nutrients 🙂❤️
Tropical Plant Girl Thanks for the quick reply! I ended up finding that video last night 😀. Well done! Hope you don't mind answering another question. What made you decide to start using the pH up and down solutions? I've been converting my plants to LECA for the past 3 months and don't test the pH. Only a few plants are growing like a weed. The rest slower growth. My pothos are barely growing, unlike yours. Thanks again for posting great content. 💚
I’m just following the advice from the research I’ve done on semi-hydro. Honestly I can’t say it’s made a huge difference that I can tell. All my plants grow very differently in semi-hydro:
With water and Leca did you put them somewhere really humid? I’m in California near the Bay Area and I didn’t place them in a prop box or anything. I tried water and the cutting doesn’t look like it’s going to make it 😩
I don’t get a lot of humidity here... I’m in Colorado. They do get tons on bright indirect light. Sorry you’re struggling! I sometimes add a little cinnamon to the water if I’m afraid of rotting. Not sure if it helps, but I’ve had good luck so far.
Most of my hoyas are doing fantastically in semi hydro! I don’t want to make a general statement, but I have about 5-6 different types of Hoya (Including pubicalyx) that are doing extremely well in semi hydro. ❤️🌱
