Thank you! You mentioned in the winterberry update video that ilex vert propagates well with root layering. I’m here to confirm. I have a similar border situation going against a sidewalk and as people walk by they’re marveling at the profusion of bright red berries. I’m impatient and want more! A wall of red berries! 🙏🏾
I never thought of plant propagation as part of preparing my garden for winter. This is great!!! I hope you will do a follow-up of this video in the spring to show the results; and another video in the fall when you transplant. Your generosity in sharing your gardening knowledge is most appreciated. Thank you so much.
My american holly layered itself. I was pleasantly surprised when i found out a low branch touching the ground, had formed roots, and sent up a stem. I'm going to dig it out and plant it on the other side of my back yard.
When you wound the stem, will plants root out from those wounds? Or does that just stimulate root growth from the nodes you removed the leaves from? Great video!
Thanks for the comment. When you wound a plant like that, it stimulates production of a hormone called Auxin which stimulates root production so It should root out from there as well as possibly the leaf nodes. Some people wound their cutting for that reason as well. Thanks for the comment.
