Star Jasmine...not to be confused with Jasminum Officianale (common Jasmine). UPDATE VIDEO: You can see a one year update of the Star Jasmine cuttings I took here....look how much it's grown: • Inside Mum's Small Lon...
that was hard work propagating this plant but 3 months is a long time glad you did not give up. it was nice seeing the jasmine root. hope to see when the jasmine grows much more
Very nice. I've found that a lot of plants can root quite easily, but take a long time to do so. To me easy rooting = high success rate, not fast rooting. I've had cuttings that root in days, but will have less than 5% actually root before they die....to me that's a difficult to root plant. Meanwhile I've had other plants like the Australian lily pilly which took over 18 months for some cuttings, but a roughly 100% success rate. I've learned that if a cutting didn't die, just leave it be, even if it's been a long time.
Thank you so much!!! I have lots of jasmine in the garden . I tried with many cuttings and succeeded with only one. I will try this technique. You rock!!!!!
Great video! Thank you so much for the information. I have propagated Daphne in water. They are also woody shrubs and it took some time for the roots to appear - but they were very successful. Again, thank you so very much for sharing with us!!!! :)
Wonderful video thank you, easy to follow step by step and to the point. I’ve done everything along with you, while hitting pause a couple of times …to putting the cuttings in water… now to wait three months! Happy new sub here!😃
I was really hoping it would work in water. Apparently if you take cuttings in summer us best and quickest to root but you can do it with the softer growths in winter and will take about 3 months to root. I'm judging from the accent your in England so the colder climates may slow down the rooting a bit too. Off to try this and glad I don't have to faff about with rooting hormone.
Hi Lisa, yes I'm in the UK....I think the optimal time to do this is in mid spring as they are getting into growth mode (i started mine a bit later maybe like june which in hindsight is a bit late).... take loads of cuttings too. I wish i could show you my jasmine cutting now...it is a strong healthy plant and ready to take off this year. I will do an update on it in a few months 💗
During this three months after changing the water weekly When we start to see the roots growing the third month or before And to do this in summer or winter Thank you
So beautiful! Thank you. I have this plant in my back garden and I always wanted to plant the same one in my front garage and I didn’t know how to do that. Now I am going to cut some and put in water. 💐
@@westlondongardener4476 Could you please say when you took the cuttings and what you advise about timing. I’m keen to try this on my plant in Normandy
great video. but no need to take out so many leaves. only the bottom few is efficient. they need leaves to gain energy to provide roots. if you had more leaves it would have rooted quicker :)
Wow the mother plant of star jasmine looks stunning 😍😍👌👌and friend I must say you have alot of patience to observe that cutting for three months...commendable job 👏👏thanks for sharing your experience friend ☺☺
Thanks for the video! I have star jasmine in my house and was trying to find a way to propagate it because i love the smell. Any updates on the progress of your plants?
Hello Mathew.. the plqnt in tye video is doing extremely well. I moved it to a bigger pot and since spring started it put on new growth and is getting taller. As my garden is small, im still trying to decide where to put it! But i'm considering climbing it up against an arch. Will do an update soon...but definitely try this method.....all you need is patience! Spring is the best time to try.
Loved this video. I'm taking cuttings today now, also I've ordered a 9cm pot clotted cream jasmine like yours 😁. Can I ask what compost you use for your pots. It looks lovely. I'm just watching your garden reset video x
Hey Davena 💗🤍💜i was thinking of doing an update on the star jasmine cuttings i took because they've realky grown...will do it today if i've got time 💗💗 my clotted cream plant is a giant now 😃 i've had tame it a little 🙊 i usually buy different multi-purpose composts, sometimes cheap supermarket composts and sometimes more fancy, im always changing so not sure which one i was using in this video.. but i always add perlite to it now (small white volcanic rocks) to make it more well draining. I recently have been using richmoor compost which i liked. Hope that helps my dear 💟💟💟💟
@@westlondongardener4476 it helps a lot thank you. I've only found gardening since lockdown so still learning. Im binge watching your videos and now watching your David Austin rose planting at the front of your house. I have a generous gardener climbing rose but it drops its petals so quickly after each bloom. I'm looking for a different one now and have made a decision to get one climbing over my arbour seat but my ground is about 6 inches of sand and then a clay soil underneath.. Im not sure to put it in a big container
@@davenadainton4209 i used to garden casually in my old house (just threw a few plants in), but exactly like you i discovered a love for gardening during lockdown.and like you im still learning 💗💗 If you plant seems unhappy where it is, it mkes sense to move it, i recently moved a grapevine and its much happier in its position. I prefer to put plants in ground but due to snall space, its not always an option. With roses it might be best to wait till its dormant in autumn/ winter before moving.. but if its bothering you alot then move it! I have moved a few plants tht were bothering me recently, as long as roots are not damged they are usually fine.
@@westlondongardener4476 thanks so much. I think my rose is supposed to drop petals a lot as it flowers one after another, so I'll see how it goes. I see u have an update on the star jasmine so I'll be catching up on that when I get a chance, I'm really interested in that video. Thanks for the content x
