Rear Pulley Installation on Harley Rear Wheel. This is how to install the pulley so it doesn't come lose and break the mounting bolts. Same procedure for Dyna Sportster, Softail and FLH/Bagger.
Use a 7/16-14 Tap!!!!!!

Hey, wondering if you can help me out. I installed 01+ sportster mags on my 2011 Fxdc and I realized that my belt tracks left in the front pulley even though the wheel is perfectly aligned. I’m pretty sure I need to install a pulley spacer on the rear pulley. My question is once I do, do I know need to change wheel spacers to different lengths? Thanks

As long as it is still on the front pulley, I wouldn’t worry about it. But if you do shim the rear pulley, you won’t have to change the wheel spacers (assuming the pulley clears). Does that answer your question?

What tap do you use to clean the thread ? J don't understand the American measuring system 😡. Thanks

7/16-14. 7/16 is the diameter of the bolt, and 14 threads per inch. It’s the same measuring system as the metric. Diameter/ threads per mm or threads per inch.

hi, I would like to mount it on a sportster, how did you know how much the spacer should be?

I laid the stock pulley on a flat surface and measured to the bolt face. Did the same with the aftermarket one. Then calculated the difference. FYI. The chrome eventually flaked off of that Ultima pulley and chewed up the belt.

Thank you for the info. I had just recently bought a pulley that is like yours and I could not understand why I thought that it was short of reaching the belt, Now I know why. Bought the spacer and some new bolts and they should be here this week. Thanks for the info!

.5" spacer from drag specialties. So far, no complaints

Apparently I misread your question. The pulley is universal and came with zero spacing on it, then you add the appropriate size space for your bike. Many aftermarket pulleys are universal.

What length grade 8 bolts did you use? 2.5"? Thanks!

How did you know what thickness of pulley shim to use?

I took the stock one, and measured from the edge of the pulley to the brake rotor. Then placed the new pulley on the wheel and measured that. Deduct the difference and there is you spacer dimension.
