thankyou. this is very very well explained. ive watched a fe of your videos and think you teach it brilliantly, you have earned my youtube subscription and my attention!!! I just recently fell in ove with gypsy jazz, and all the other videos explaining it only confused me in so many ways, with some technical jazz mumbo jumbo without the actually feel for it or a simple underlying layout to grasp the style. thank you very much. :)
I can't thank you enough for posting these videos. I recently became obsessed with Django and Bireli and these are by far the most helpful vids I have come across. Thank you infinitely!
hey awesome stuff!! can I use a "normal" acoustic guitar for playing this gypsy style with the strumming or sounds it a lot better with a idk gypsy guitar? thanks for reading this. i dont have 1000 euros for a guitar.
Sven, my dude, can you do me the favor of a lifetime and make a video on the proper chords for Festival 48? That's my favorite gypsy jazz tune of all time and I'd really like to know how to play it legitimately. Regardless, I love this channel and your instructional are great!! Thanks!
Marvellous and very well explained, Sven. You should think about a meeting with northern Germany s clarinet- mega -expert Martin Schmidt-Hahn. He s got a warm clarinet-sound for swing and gypsy -swing
Great lesson I'm in the market for a gypsy guitar but I don't know much about gypsy guitars and love the tone of yours, what model is it? Thanks again for the lesson!
You are amazing Sven, i Love joscho stephan trio and you are the most important piece in the band! What kind of microphone use in your guitar?and what kind of guitar pick are you using? Blessings
It is just a different way to play the same chord by shuffling the notes around. The b "half diminished" also called "minor7 flat 5" chord has the same notes as the d minor6 chord. So it gives you a different choice for variety and/or a different sound for your d minor6 chord. Hope I didn't step on your toes Sven, this is a good lesson with some cool ideas.
Hi Sven I've noticed that you use an acoustic archtop in some your gypsy jazz tutorials. I own a Epiphone Mastebilt Deluxe acoustic/electric archtop. With proper gypsy jazz techniques, can I achieve a gypsy jazz sound from the aforementioned guitar?
Well, some gypsy jazz guitarist use a "stimer" with a tube Amp to imitate the sound of late Django, that is possible with your guitar. Use a tube Amp and no reverb. Set the gain high enough to receive the "sweet spot" where the guitar starts to distort very gently. For an acoustic session the string action will be to low and notes won't sound right I think! All the best, Sven
i play guitar from long time and im really good at strumming, but somehow i have problem with "la pompe" because i cant get use to the very hard pick for strumming...it just feels innatural to me...any advice?
hi, Why dont you just use a thinner pick, then? if the groove is played correctly, the Size and Shape of the pick is not so important. most professional players I know use a hard pick, cause it makes no unwanted noises when hitting the strings. Greetz Sven
