I have been using Obenhauf's LP for 7yrs now with great results. Re: "this 4oz container would last your entire life" I have gone through 3-4 of those 4oz containers and at least one of the 8oz containers over the last 7+yrs.

Well you must have lots of leather goods and use them a lot. Hats off to you sir.

I bought Obenauf's for my Brooks bicycle saddle and ended up using it for lots of stuff (yup, it smells good !) - I really like to use on my micarta knife handles because it makes them more grippy and I like the it darkens them some. Thanks for another good video...

Hmm, never thought about it putting it on micarta. I may have to try that.

The heat from your hands will help it penetrate. You can run it on your palm first to get some heat into it before applying.

@BlackOwlOutdoors

+watsyurdeal Really depends on how much product you apply and environmental factors. If I’m doing multiple applications, I’ll wait a few hours in between and then let it sit overnight. Hope this helps.

Does it cause any problems or does it basically act like rendered tallow?
@Chungustav

+Sitric Brave it will darken and soften the leather and protect it from drying out. I've been using it for two years and haven't seen any negatives

Bacon grease or anything like olive oils will go rancid. Ask anyone at a leather tannery or store and they'll tell ya that.

Silly question here, am I supposed to polish the boots first with kiwi polisher or does Openhauf take the place for kiwi polish ?
@airconditioning69
@airconditioning69 5 лет назад
Never use Kiwi again, only LP, it takes care of everything
@racers115
@racers115 5 лет назад
You won't need kiwi polish after using this stuff. If you want a slight sheen after you've applied the Obenhauf, then after applying it if possible allow the product to dry for several days, then buff with a horsetail brush. If you need to use the shoes the same day that you applied the Obenhauf, then after applying it, wipe the leather surface with a clean, dry terry cloth towel and then proceed to buff with a horsetail brush.

l go thru a tub of obenauf's each year. l use it on all my leather except my leather jackets. I've tried most all leather products, since l have tons of leather items, and obenauf's is the best by far. most of the other stuff is temporarily lasting junk.

Hi there! Thanks for this! Just an urgent question. What would you suggest for wallets making wallets more pliable after dyeing with oil dye? Is obenauf recommend for both sealing and making the wallet water resistant? What you suggest for sealing my acrylic painting designs on veg tan leather plus making it more pliable? Thanks in advance!
@BlackOwlOutdoors
@BlackOwlOutdoors 6 лет назад
Obenaufs will work as a top coat and will make the leather water and scratch resistant. Definitely will make the leather supple as well. I don’t do any paints so can’t comment on that.

There are other very similar products about, Snow Seal and the stuff that Scarpa make for their boots are two off the top of my head that are available at local retail outdoor equipment shops. Also try rural supply stores that stock horse saddlery. There are many products out there that are a variation on this theme.

Which is better the LP or the leather oil from obenauf's
@ksajak
@ksajak Год назад
The lp helps with keeping water out also. Its heavy duty. The oil would be more for summer and whatnot just to keep the leather nice and hydrated. If you're doing a lot of walking through the snow or know you'll be getting them wet then a coat or 2 of heavy duty lp will do you good. Summer I'd just use the oil

What do you think about mink oil? I hear it rots stitching. Curious to know your thoughts and how you compare it to Obenaufs.
@davidharris8797
@davidharris8797 4 года назад
I think its myth to increase sales on other brands mink oil was used for many years but I can say it makes your leather a bit too soft so not too much maybe once a year or less
@Beast9894
@Beast9894 6 лет назад
Why does it leave white residue in the crevices of the leather?
@El_Scorcho_
@El_Scorcho_ 6 лет назад
Zultan have the same issue. I thought it was sweat. Gonna switch to mink oil and see if it continues.
@zackm8929
@zackm8929 5 лет назад
My guess would be the wax in it builds up on the laces creating that residue
@racers115
@racers115 5 лет назад
It means that there was an accumulation of it there that has solidified. Easy way around that is instead of applying with your finger, apply with a toothbrush, specially around all of the crevices. That well drive it in better and prevent accumulations. After you're done applying it, you can then wipe the toothbrush off well, and then go over the crevices again with the dry/clean toothbrush to make sure there are no accumulations left.
