Vote 🗳 yes to reform pensions. Otherwise, we’re just slaves for govt workers /retirees with fat pensions...Meanwhile, most civilians don’t even own an emergency savings fund.
Is this a move by the city to have people not pay tax, then put a lien on the home then ultimately sell the home to whom ever for the taxes owed. Then the new owner sells and makes huge profit and no doubt someone is having their pocket lined withing the city. It they are having trouble paying bills maybe an in depth audit needs to occur to see where they are mis spending.
So so how will that affect rent control, you’re going to have responsible homeowners pay twice because the renters we’ve given all the rights of ownership without the legal or financial responsibility, are not going to have to help the city from suffering, no just the homeowner. Better think about foreigners and corporate landlord’s and the impact they have on the entire housing market and all it’s issues.
Can we bring some knowledge into the discussion..?? Like Cook county property taxes are assessed every 3 years , therefore the property taxes are not rising every year ..!! Appealing those taxes , is cheap and easy , and you don't pay the law firm if they are not lowering your taxes....and you only pay the law firm 25% of your Reduction in your taxes for the first year, and the last 2 years are free....!!!
Good discussion highlighting the levers that need to be pulled in order to address the problem. But after living in Illinois for 20 years, I am no longer an optimist that our elected leaders (and the people of Illinois, for that matter) have the guts to make the tough calls. I'm out and now I can only sympathize for my friends still in Illinois who are left holding the bag.
Your foundation is correct. Your solutions are too simplistic and will not work. You are ignoring critical factors. I have heard this stuff for 35+ years. Think some more and stop wishful thinking.
