Use our "matchy matchy" strategy to solve proportions on test day. This is an easy way to gain points on the exam. Use this strategy for any standardized math exam like Praxis Core, ACT/SAT.
We specialize in test preparation for the Praxis tests and the School Leader Licensure Assessment (SLLA).

I found another way which works too. Divide 150,000 by three to get $50,000/ share. Then multiply 3:5:6 by the 50,000 to get how much each share equals. Thank you for the videos and the books for Praxis!

You can absolutely solve it that way. I do it the other way because I have to go through those steps to know I am doing everything. But do it the way you feel most comfortable. Thanks for watching :)

I did this one a little differently and still got the same answer. I filled in the 3:5:6 as 150, x, 300. I added 3+6 to get 9, then set up my ratio as 9/450 5/x, cross multiplied, then divided to get 250. After adding the 150, 250, and 300, I got 700. It seems my method had more steps. Did I just get lucky, or on test day can I do what works most conveniently?

What you did works proportionally, so it wasn't just lucky! There are lots of ways to solve problems. We try to give you the fastest way, but if you know a method that will work and is better for you, then definitely use that method. Just be careful, though, because there are strategies that seem like they should work, but they don't.
