Simply testing the dynamic range of the iPhone 12 Pro Max ProRaw files, by underexposing shots and recovering them using the iPhone in-camera Photo app. You wouldn't normally shoot like this, but a simple recovery test like this is useful to find out how much you could theoretically push their images in high-contrast scenes.

Beautifully demonstrated and described - thank you so much. I've been startled by what I can make out of a shot that seems far less than optimal straight out of the 12 Pro Max. E.g., a portrait of a martial arts teacher that I took as a lighting test before a video interview. It was at least a stop underexposed. Tweaked it a little in the native Photos app and Snapseed, and wow - it's now in his portfolio and I'm keeping it in mind for possible contest submission.

Great video. The race car looked so good going from under exposed to normal.

The day is coming where shooting for a champagne we'll have a pro camera and an iPhone in the camera bag.... Can you imagine an art director requesting to use an iPhone for their social media stuff and implying they don't even need photographers anymore. The end in near 😅

Which lens did you use for theses macro shot ?

I found the 1x lens was a bit easier to get macros. Though none of them get as close as I would like.

@@eastonchang Yeah I agree and I found the overall quality usually better with the 1x lens
