Picked up the 5Ds used in excellent condition in 2023 for AUD$1600 to add to the 5D collection...Not a lot of use as yet but loving the results so far.
Welcome to June 2024 - Just picked one up used on eBay for $1,100 USD. Full kit, original box and materials, a few additional bits and bobs. Shutter count 55K. A few trivial scratches on the body. I've got the 5DMIV as my primary day to day work horse and some Canon L glass, which turn out lovely images, as well as some Zeiss primes that are just gorgeous. I shoot mostly landscape and portraits, so low-light performance, low ISO ceiling, crawling fps, etc. don't really bother me. And I shoot to print in large format, so the resolution really matters. As Easton alluded to, this is very particular camera body intended for a narrow audience. I appreciate the very thoughtful and details analysis - including the frank honesty of the presenter. I don't do car photography, but, holy smokes..., that portfolio is stunning. Gorgeous work! Cheers, J
If you have a MC-11 adapter that is up dated with current firmware, the AF performance is the same on a Canon or Sony. I have the EF version and it works flawlessly on my Sony.
Nice review. Today (2024) I still use the 5Ds R. I purchased a refurbished (new) camera from Canon directly, and so far have had years of good use. I am angry that other manufacturers have made better options, including mirrorless. In summary, it's poor in low light situations (stage performances, etc.), and it takes a lot more work to get great pictures. But when all parameters line up correctly, you can still get great images. In general, high megapixels seems to mean poor low light sensitivity. Today, if you can get a good deal on a healthy 5Ds(R), and you have good quality lenses, and you don't want to switch to Nikon, Sony, etc., then I think you can get some good use out of this camera. Unfortunately, today's photographers have switched to quiet mirrorless cameras, so the shutter noise can be annoying in comparison. I still think Canon is not on the forefront of innovation.
Hello from the future! Watching from feb 2024. Just bought this lens and haven't had my first session with it yet, but I really the first random shots.
To guys watching it in 2024, i just bought this camera, to switch from canon 90d aps-c, why? Portrait, landscapes, street photography- for my only quality matters, i don't use any inteligent autofocus system, sticking to center dot focus 99% time. Why i switched? I genuinly believe that some day i will hit a photo that really matters to me, that somewhow could land on fine art photography and i believe this camera gives me the quality that I won't think about my equipment anymore, just focus on some day i do a photo that is worth 50 megapixels or even more. Now it costs about 1k dollars used, has EF mount compatible to amazing line of lens which are getting cheap used, i think that this year is the best to buy this camera
Aw fam I implore you to dive back into cyberpunk now. Even If only for the photography alone, Night City is a polished gem at this point. It’s what got me into virtual photography now. You will not be disappointed. 🙏🏽
First I was looking for 2nd hand EOS 5D Mk IV but a EOS 5 Ds R with original grip the BG - E11, appeared for € 1250,00 both in excellent state (studio use only). Shuttercount 50K. Gonna use it for landscape photography / timelapse and use some of my dad's FD lenses. Doesn't go without a tripod and a (wireless) remote / Canon App. Love you dad, mis you.
The camera in 13 mini is the worst. I miss my iPhone 6. It took better photos than the (huge) 13 pro that my friend had. Apple has been disappointing lately. The phones are getting bigger and heavier.
Yes, it is a very useful lens for a wide variety of situations, while upholding great optimal quality. It may not be able to stand up to the best primes, particularly when it comes to maximum aperture and therefore low light performance, but it is hard to deny its great versatility and overall quality. An excellent workhorse.
That’s exactly what I want. An iPhone pro mini. The only downside of that would be the battery life. It would probably be 2/3 of the 13 mini battery life.
Maybe people paid the money because it's a great camera. Besides you could get it for a lot less used by then. Still the 2nd highest mp camera in 2023.
They (spearheaded by the big RU-vid channels like TOny and Chelsey and the rest) criticized this camera big time. Then, as always, we learned that true professionals actually have been using them and loving them. They wanted Canon to be amused by cock-pitting SOny and Canon - but sorry, but Canon doesn't play anybody's game. They have their own game. And they have the last laugh. 5Dsr is going to be my first full frame camera even though it is years old. And why? Because that is what I want.
Ironically as a first time Apple user, I bought the SE3 as I could not get my head around the £250 price difference. Gonna upgrade to that red mini when the price drops after the release of the 15 (cos that color is sick).
Before I upgrade, does anyone know if the 48mp raw takes up cloud storage and when it does, does it stop working does the quality degrade? What if your cloud storage is already full will the 48mp raw photo still work?
I just completed a shoot for Ralph Lauren using my 5DSr ...... and the editor asked me what camera I used...... and that's a question he never asks...... so the quality in 2023 .......yes, it's all in you style and the how you use the tools !!!!
Got a 5DS R about a year ago, a pain to use at first but learn its limits and you will be blown away. The 5DS R now has been joined by a 5 DS. Yes it has its limits but what a machine.
I’m finally looking to upgrade my MacBook Pro 16” from 2013 and it’s done all I’ve asked of it and it’s only now starting to really show its age. And just like you said one of the reasons I didn’t upgrade was because I wanted and needed those ports, I wasn’t going to carry a ton of dongles just do the work flow when my 10 year Mac had them built in. Your video has helped me decide to get the 14” MacBook Pro so thank you!
the issue is that companies like Nikon still take care of the brand new Nikon D 850. Unfortunately, Canon has not released a newer one for this camera. He could very easily improve some points. Unfortunately, it doesn't take care of its models after so many years and the professionals choose other companies like Nikon. Thanks
So much for “of course Apple will add Face ID to next year’s model…” Honestly I don’t mind the notch either and I love Touch ID, however it is odd that we’re into the second generation of M line chips and still don’t have Face ID on the Mac.
Hello, from the future (January 2023): I have had this lens for only a few days, but already am mightily impressed. Your review was spot-on. What a fabulous and beautiful piece of kit it is.
Excellent video! One of the best ever, thank you! If you choose raw shooting with a 3rd. part app, let's say Reeflex ProCamera, you're still shooting in Proraw or it'll be a true raw file?
I purchased a refurbished Canon 5D sR from Canon last week, 1-13-2023, for $1195. It came with a one year warranty, and all the other accessories that came with the original camera. I’m looking forward to using it. Enjoyed your video.
