Digital printing for custom apparel is an increasingly popular option. Precision and print quality are two words that come up often when talking about digital printing using equipment such as DTG (Direct-To-Garment) and DTF (Direct-To-Film).

Thanks for the great video! I'm thinking of using DTF on my t-shirts for the upcoming season because it could print more accurate and vibrant colors, in my opinion. However, I also think that DTG is a better method for t-shirts cause it's more breathable. Could you please tell me how breathable DTF prints are compared to DTG prints? Thanks!
@Printeez
@Printeez 2 года назад
Thanks commenting on our video! :) Great question! It all depends on your design. If you have a large image, DTF will feel like a large patch similar to large heat transfers. If you have smaller detailed prints with a lot of space within the design, DTF is a great option. It's more vibrant and pops off the shirt a bit more than DTG, but not as much as screen printing. You can send us your design at contact@printeez.com & we will be able to guide you with what we think is the best printing option for you so you can contact your printing partner & let him know exactly what you want. Have a wonderful day!

Very interesting perspective. Thank you for sharing. IMO, There are significant differences in PRODUCTION PROCESS as well as QUALITY OUTPUT from DTG manufacturers. For example, inline pretreatment and settings built into a fabric library VS. manually applied pretreatment/separate machine. There's a control and consistency factor here... Low volume DTG equipment (Brother, Epson), requires offline pretreatment or pretreated garments (more expensive), adding production touch points, labor, & welcoming in the potential for good old "human error". Low volume users can get away with this production method, but will be challenged to scale effectively if looking to grow. This is one of the biggest areas where I see owners/operators struggle with DTG. Industrial volume equipment like Kornit Digital's has pretreatment incorporated into the process, using a WET on WET printing technology. Kornit DTG output vibrancy is unmatched. I like the Skull sample and I've seen it before. That came off of a Kornit, and not a Brother, right?
@Printeez
@Printeez 2 года назад
Very well said & explained! Couldn't have said it any better, this is exactly correct. This is very similar with DTF as well. Different machines & printing environment have a major impact on the end result. The advantage of these printing methods is ordering samples before doing a bulk production is fairly inexpensive compared to screen printing. So you might have to test out a few printing partners to find the best match for you!

@Printeez 2 года назад
Hi Mert! Thanks for writing in your question. Depending on what you're looking for this answer will vary. If you're looking for athletic wear then sublimation printing will be your best option. You have 2 options when it comes to sublimation. Fully cut & sew process or simply sublimating onto assembled blanks. Here's links to 2 great videos showing each option. Cut & Sew : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LDXe9V2cchE.html Heat pressed onto blanks : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yc3psIdw0AE.html If you're looking for more of a street wear option, all over print using discharge inks is a great option! Keep in mind, to achieve vibrant prints, discharge ink only works on natural fabrics. (cotton, bamboo, hemp, etc...) You may obtain vibrant prints on heather 50/50 blends if the actual synthetic part of the shirt isn't dyed. Look for heather shirts that contain white yarns. For exemple Solid black blends won't result in vibrant prints since the synthetic part of the shirt has already been dyed. All over print on both sides of a black 100% cotton shirt. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-egYNnoBokgQ.html All over print on 100% cotton Gildan black shirts. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CsRm5ltXFSQ.html I hope this helped stir you in the right direction! @Printeez
@Printeez 2 года назад
@@mertboz7934 I don't see DTF being a great option for All over print since the ink sits on top of the fabric similar to heat transfer prints. DTG would be awesome! The only thing is not many print shops have access to large platens that are capable to do all over printing. Standard print size is 12"x14" for most printers. Kornit's have the option for All over print since the machines are so big. Standard brother or epson machines are simply too small. You would have to print the shirts multiple times to obtain an all over print. Hope this helps! :)

@@mertboz7934 NO. only sublimation works for all over print, reason being sublimation is a dye procedure and becomes part of the garment. DTF and DTG sits on the surface of the garment and it will not be comfortable

Do you find that DTF is as thick and uncomfortable as the internet says? In my samples I found DTG to be super comfortable but it just looks cheap and like it’s going to flake off and disintegrate quickly…(I got a gildan 5000 100% cotton shirt, as cotton was recommended for durability) Is DTF at all comparable in wearable comfort? Or is there a massive difference?
@Printeez
@Printeez 2 месяца назад
Hey! DTF quality and definition for vector file is hard to beat. If you are printing a photo or design on a light garment t-shirt without white, then DTG is the way to go. So the answer is it depends on the garment type, but moreover on the design itself. We currently do 90% of our production using DTF. We've got the newest technologies and the quality is just insane!
@222layers

@@Printeez ok cool thanks so much! I’m using printful for drop shipping. Unfortunately they don’t allow vector files so I have to export my vector files to PNG files at a mega high DPI for good quality. I’m getting 100% cotton Tshirts made. I have a DTF sample and the color is amazing and it feels super durable. But the DTG sample has a feel that makes me scared it’s going to disintegrate. Honestly the DTG is waaaay more comfortable, but I just don’t trust the longevity. In your experience, am I trippin? Does DTG really last? I’d love some real world reviews on how long DTG is really going to last or if DTF is just far superior. Thanks again this is really helpful!!!

You can get a mat finish by using a kraft paper when you press the press a second time. Ex: Press and peel, then add your kraft paper and press again. The DTF PET Film you are using can also play a role in the finish you get.

Is there a significant difference with the touch/feel of DTF compared to DTG. I've been doing DTF for about a year now and it doesn't feel bad but some people do complain that it feels a little stiff, etc... What are your thoughts? Thanks.
@Printeez
@Printeez 2 года назад
Hi Jose! It really depends what you prefer. DTF feels a lot more like heat transfer compared to DTG that feels more like screen printing but has that pretreat stiffness before the first wash. Of course if you buy or own a Kornit you won't have that Fixation stiffness because it evaporates in the oven at the same time the ink cures. You may also achieve different result with different cover sheets. Parchment paper or craft paper cover sheet will results in a more matte finish compared to a silicone cover sheet that will result in a gloss finish. We use this technique for all of our printing services, whether it's screen printing, DTG, DTF this helps achieve the gloss result you're looking for & leaves the print buttery smooth! :) You also have to think about the size of your print. If you're printing a large image 10"x10" on the front of the shirt it will always feel stiff! There's a few printing techniques that can help like using water based / discharge inks or printing with CMYK only with your DTG. Here's a link to a video we did explaining the differences between plastisol & water based inks. :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hRPWtwmaHdY.html I hope this helps! Let me know what you think & the result you achieve if you try DTG. :)
