I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us. I found your channel a few days ago and have been watching it nonstop since. My oldest is only in sixth grade, but what you've shared about homeschooling in high school has really opened my eyes. Thank you incredibly much. I wish you and your family the best.

Thank you so much for this breakdown! This was very helpful. I especially liked the comparison of dual enrollment vs AP classes. I really appreciate the time you took to make this video.

I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for you as much as for Katie. I imagine that you will take on some new roles or challenges once Katie launches fully into driving and college. I applaud you both, and thank you for this video.

Colleen I really commend you on how knowledgeable you are and also how you are intune with both your children. This means so very much and some children are not blessed with this. I do not have children but your video is very interesting to me. You also have given them FAITH. Great job and be proud not only in your children but yourself. 👍❤️🙏

This is very accurate! I have a daughter who is dual enrolled and on track to finish her AA by high school graduation next year. I also have a son graduating this year with just a few DE credits under his belt. DE isn't for everyone, but it is an amazing opportunity for those who choose to be dual enrolled. I started watching your videos when I transferred my kids from private school to homeschool in 2020. You were a wealth of information at that time! Thank you!

I think that the cost is a big reason why many opt to do dual-enrollment. It's very interesting to hear about your experience with dual enrollment this year. Because my family has lived overseas, neither me nor any of my siblings did any dual-enrollment. I like that this would allow a student to have a 'soft start' and an easier transition to college. Because all of us also had to move to the US and move far away from our family when we graduated high school, it was a big transition all at once!
@simplejoyfilledliving

That would be a huge transition!

Thank you for your input. I am considering DE for my daughter next year, she will be 15, but I am thinking about Arizona State University where you can take the class and decided AFTER it is over if you want to pay for a full course and have it on a transcript or not. If not, the fee is only $25 and no record of taking the class at all. Have a great day!
@simplejoyfilledliving
@simplejoyfilledliving 2 года назад
That’s a very interesting option, and one that could help a lot of people! My only advice is that if the student isn’t planning to attend Arizona State, make sure the classes are fully transferable to the college she will attend.

Good information! Well said. Although, if I’m being honest, I’m scared to death. Academically, I know my daughter will be ready, but in other areas, I’m not sure. Did you see a big difference in Katie from 10th grade to senior year? Emotionally, academically, mentally?
@simplejoyfilledliving
@simplejoyfilledliving 2 года назад
Yes, there’s a lot of growth in those years!

Thanks so much! I'm still confused on the difference between dual enrollment and honors classes?
@simplejoyfilledliving
@simplejoyfilledliving Год назад
Dual enrollment classes are college classes taken in high school where you get both high school and college credits simultaneously. The grader and teacher is the college professor for these classes. Honors classes are high school classes with more and harder work than a standard high school class and the grader and teacher is generally the parent, but could instead be a co-op teacher. Dual enrollment get the same GPA value as AP classes, where honors classes get less (but still higher than standard high school classes). Neither are appropriate unless the student is working at or above grade level with excellent grades. Otherwise the work would be too much. State laws vary as far as gpa values given. I hope this helps.

Did you feel TGATB English prepared your daughter enough for college English? We tried one of the younger years and I wasn't impressed. But I've heard the high schools might be different and I'm stuck with what to do with my 9th grader next year.
@simplejoyfilledliving
@simplejoyfilledliving 2 года назад
Yes I think it was great preparation for college English because they do so many different styles of writing.

Our umbrella school helps with validation as we submit work to them but daul enrolment may still help my kids!!! When I started homeschooling I was worried about that. I’m not sure about how long I want my kid to be in college as they aren’t there yet so I can’t see how they will do. We are looking at using a Christian college for daul enrolment and I’ve made sure we discuss other ways of life especially as we have non Christians in the family who are against our faith so before we homeschooled we had those discussions!!! I’m gonna have to speak to my kids about asking for help with their dyslexia!!!

What do you think the best classes would be for an 11th and 12th grader to take online ONLY for dual enrollment? Does dual enrollment have to be for two semesters in order for them to get a credit or can it be half? How many credits was Eng. 101 for 1 semester?
@simplejoyfilledliving
@simplejoyfilledliving Год назад
Dual enrollment classes are credited as 1 full high school credit for a 1 semester class. At the college level, the class will be at least 3 credits, depending on the amount of time they spend in class per week. For online only, I think it depends on the student. Katie did college algebra, music, and French 1& 2 as fully online. But in general I would say that harder subjects for the student are better done in person. English 101 was a full high school credit, counting as senior year English for Katie so English 102 counted as a 5th English credit for high school. Those classes gave her 6 college credits together. I hope this makes sense.
@reneec3186
@reneec3186 Год назад
@@simplejoyfilledliving I was told that one semester of English 1101 was worth three credits and the second semester English 1102 was worth another three credits are we saying the same thing? Another thing I couldn't get an answer for is, it seems like the English two or three in high school have to be honors only, in order for them to even qualify to take college English... is that true?
@simplejoyfilledliving
@simplejoyfilledliving Год назад
@@reneec3186 yes-the college will give 3 college credits for English 101. But it will be 1 high school credit as if it were a year long class rather than a 1 semester class. The requirement for college English will vary by the college so you will have to ask them directly. It could be based on previous English, PSAT score, GPA, or a combination of those. For us the requirement was a GPA of at least 3.0 at one school with guidance counselor recommendation (they accepted my recommendation) and for the other school it was a GPA of 3.0 and PSAT of 1000, though they have now dropped the testing requirement.
@reneec3186
@reneec3186 Год назад
@@simplejoyfilledliving Oooooh so it doesn't add credits to highschool at all and Honor or AP classes are the only thing that adds to highschool credit, correct?
@simplejoyfilledliving
@simplejoyfilledliving Год назад
@@reneec3186 no it will still add 1 high school credit. 1 semester college = 1 full year high school credit
