This is a great video thank you. I visited Nottingham this week for an open day at the uni. The students and staff were absolutely amazing and the campus was spacious although personally the city let's it down for me as it's more like a big town in my opinion. This could be good for some people but I found looking around it a bit boring. However the uni is great and city seems very LGBT accepting, transport it good and it's not too far from home so I might apply to the uni still.
I live in lenton, I'm a mother of three and been here 6 years. Not once have we had things like robbery going off in the area! 😂 And as much as students like to try and 'claim it' there are MANY nurserys, primary schools and secondary schools in the area! We are a mixed community. And we hate loud roidy students with the weekend parties because considering there is many schools, they're extremely inconsiderate. I'm lucky and live on a very quiet street. Not the same for others though. Yes Nottingham is great for the uni, but many "student" areas are also family areas! We have to find a mutual respect. But good video. I was born and raised here btw. Moved to Watford in 2014 for 2 years and came back. No regrets.
Hi,I'm happy to see this your comments about nottingham, you really help me, as I'm thinking of buying property in nottingham, we moved from Newcastle upon Tyne to Kent 2019,but since then I've never liked it here in Kent, though there's loads of jobs opportunities here but I still don't like living here, nottingham is 1 of the city I'm thinking of moving to but im scared of moving to somewhere that i will not like again as i want a city similar to Newcastle, i really love it in Newcastle but i had to move because of my partner job is in London ,your comments really help me now to make my choice, please if you don’t mind I will like to ask, is there some black there as I'm black African, just like to know how mixed is it there, thanks
@@comfortomole2853 you will fit in amazing here. It's got an amazing black African community, Nottingham is amazingly diverse!!! Depending on areas though! Which area was you thinking?
@@comfortomole2853 Nottingham has a significantly large black African and Caribbean population - one of the biggest in England so you will have no problems at all. Predominately black population are St Anns (but don't live there because it is rough), Radford (another rough area), Basford, Meadows (bad area), Sneinton - best area is Hyson Green and Lenton if you want ethnically mixed area that is relatively safe
@@comfortomole2853 No problems. You don't need to live in these areas as the city has a lot of good areas. I know they have many Nigerians, Gambians and some Somalians in the city as well as Afro-Caribbean' (mainly Jamaican heritage). Hyson Green and Radford are the best places for ethnic foods and shopping (quite a few Afro style hairdressers at your service). It is far more diverse than Newcastle
I really liked your guide! I like to point out to people just how many arts spaces we have in Nottingham, big and small galleries with free entry. New Art Exchange and Nottingham Contemporary are even right on the tram line for an easy day trip 🐴👍
Hey Ann Thanks a ton for extensive and exhaustive pros and cons list. You mentioned your rent, can you please share the area so that we as a work couple can also explore
TY for the video really informative. We did a tour a week ago of the parc campus, with my daughter (prospective 2022 student), and we all loved it. Certainly the best campus Uni we have seen but did not get time to see the town so this video is really helpful. Best wishes with your future study and life :)
Thanks for this informative video! It helped me a lot☺️ I am going to study at the University of Nottingham next semester if everything works out with Corona🙏🏻 Greetings from Germany👋
you make me giggle, im subscribing! I love Nottingham, I know it well having sortof grown up there. I dont live too far away and still enjoy going to town :)
Good video, but also a bit student centric. I would say Nottingham is not a small city. It is at least medium and it is actually one of the largest cities in the UK and there are plenty of job opportunities and there is a growing start-up scene as well. Not to mention you have nearby Mansfield, Derby and Leicester. Also Birmingham is like 40-50 min away. I did live and study in Nottingham, currently in London, but considering moving back. In London 60 min commute 1 way is like the norm, but often can be 1hr 20min 1hr 30 min under the ground just to get to work and this on top of your 8-12 hours working day (in corporate in top companies) How did you find the weather, especially compared to some other towns/cities?
Thank you! Considering that I also lived in Rome for many years, Nottingham is a small city for me. But compared to other cities in the UK, then yes, it’s not too small like you said. The weather is lovely, at least for me. I prefer cold and rainy days and Nottingham offers those weather conditions. We do have sunny and warms days too. It’s a little bit of a mix. And I think the weather is a bit the same in London.
@@SoloAnn Comparing it to Rome, then yes Nottingham is small but for UK cities, it is actually one of the largest cities (if we include the urban areas Nottingham is bigger than Bristol, Leicester, Sheffield. Bradford, Coventry)
Thanks Very Much Solo Ann, Great insight & opinion on the City of Nottingham. I am from Leicester, and I have been to Notts for day trip, I would really like to experience it even further. I hear it's has a great 'music scene'
Nice city, and, as I'm a Londoner/cockney who's moved here, sure, it has an amount of idiots, criminals and slums, but so does my old place of London. There are great parks, including Wollaton House and its Deer Park, Trent University Park, The Arboretum. Plus, the local coloured stone of a pink and brown hue, is outstanding, particularly in Nottingham's Victorian buildings which aren't out of place anywhere in the world. Also near to The Peak District National Park. As opposed to what idiots there are, there are a lot of nice, friendly people there, too. Great shopping in Broadmarsh and The Victoria Centre which surprised me, for a much smaller city than some!
I absolutely love your clear pronunciation!! And all the information is so interesting, thank you ❤️ One stuff I wanna recommend that is show the town more, please 😊
Nottingham Uni is probably the best Campus/City university in the UK. There is a huge, secluded, green campus in the city but also it's a big city. I can only think of Birmingham which has this as well. Highly recommend if you want the best of both worlds.
Can you please tell me how to buy bus tickets? do you buy the ticket directly from the bus driver or are there stations where you can do that? i am going to nottingham trent uni on september 2021 as a postgraduate student. i will be living in the city center but the course i am taking will be held at clifton campus. i am kinda worried about that because public transport in my country is not organized and it kinda sucks. I have no idea how public transport works. can you also tell me if the tram can get me anywhere I want?
Hi! Good question. You can buy it when you’re on the bus. The bus driver used to give tickets but now it’s changed. You have to scan your credit/debit card and it works exactly as an oyster card in London. I made a video about public transportation in Nottingham. It’s in my Nottingham playlist and I show 3 ways to travel for free in Nottingham. Hope it helps.
Hey solo, we are as a family looking for moving to nottingham, which area is the best to live ? Which area has outstanding well education in nottingham i mean like primary school?
If you are a student, then Beeston, Chillwell, Wollaton or Dunkirk West of Nottingham: Toton, parts of Aspley, Stapleford, Bramcote South of Nottingham: West Bridgford, Gamston, Edwalton, Ruddington North of Nottingham: Hucknall, Sherwood, Arnold, Rise Park, Redhill East of Nottingham: Mapperley Park, Carlton, Woodthorpe, Gedling, Colwick, Burton Joyce Areas to avoid: St. Anns, Radford, Hyson Green, Sneinton, Bulwell, Meadows, Top Valley, Strelley, Basford, Broxtowe, Clifton, (Bilborough and Lenton to some extent)
Valles, S.L.P. México.
T-shirt with jeans/trousers. The majority of students wear vintage. There are also rare people who wear unique and colourful outfits. You’ll see different styles around Nottingham.
It's a lovely town....just don't misbehave or else they'll put into this device 0:48 🤣🤣 All jks aside, this really is a lovely place. I would love to visit Nottingham one day.❤
@@SoloAnn You are actually incorrect in some respect. Nottingham is actually much bigger than Leicester overall. The city boundary population of Nottingham (approx 329,000) is slightly smaller than Leicester but the Nottingham Urban Area (population 768,000) is bigger than Leicester Urban Area (550,000). Nottingham Urban Area is the 7th biggest in England. Most of the things you said about Nottingham are correct but I am not sure how much travelling you did around Nottingham. Hope that helps. And yes Nottingham is definitely much more livelier than Leicester, Derby, Coventry and Stoke. Leicester is great for Indian food and culture because of the large Indian population there
@@SoloAnn Technically by that logic, that Leicester has a bigger population than London. City of London is only 10,000 people but of course we look at the Greater side, making London one of the biggest in the world. And the same for Nottingham and Leicester. Nottingham has three boroughs connected to it making its population over 0.7 million, whilst Leicester has one borough making it over 0.5 million.
@@Freedomofspeech-zw4jx I think the latest population for Nottingham Urban Area is just under 800, 000 (around 794,000) - Leicester Urban Area is over 550,000
Nottingham city boundary is quite small but the Greater boundary includes a few boroughs making it treble in size. This is the same in equally comparible cities around the UK.
Yes the city boundary of Nottingham is small and around 15th largest in the UK but the Urban Area shoots it up to 7th or 8th largest in the UK (includes Broxtowe, Rushcliffe and Gedling boroughs here). You are aware that the Nottingham Urban Area is bigger than Sheffield, Leicester and Bristol Urban Areas
@@brothersman524 At last, someone who knows what they are talking about. Like you say the City Centre is compact which is ideal but Nottingham ISN'T A SMALL CITY There's a lot of false information here from students who no nothing except how to leave their rubbish strune across The Arboretum.
@@Mustaine1ify Students just know about accommodations, the city centre and students areas. They wouldn't know enough about the city like the locals would. The Arboretum used to be a really good place to walk around but I heard it isn't great anymore. Nottingham city boundary (Radford, Hyson Green, St Anns, Wollaton, Bulwell, Basford, Mapperley Park, Sherwood etc) is small (population around 330,000) but this doesn't include areas like West Bridgford, Beeston, Stapleford, Bramcote, Toton, Carlton, Gedling, Arnold etc which is part of Nottingham Urban Area which shoots the population up to 800,000 (that is the latest figure I've heard this year - it was 794,000 last year). What people don't know is that areas of Rushcliffe and Gedling Borough Councils are some of the best places to live in the UK
I plan on moving here later in 2022. I come from a boring country itself. 😴 I love the peace n quiet. How difficult would it be to get a part time job? Hoping someone could help me out. Thanks :)
Depends on your budget really... the south (in Rushcliffe borough) is considered the nicest part (West Bridgford, Edwalton, Ruddington, Radcliffe-on-Trent etc) but you pay more for it. Some of the western areas in Broxtowe borough aren't too bad either, Beeston and Kimberley for example.
@@kaij.d7307 Some of the east side of Notts (Gedling borough) have good areas like Burton Joyce, Lowdham, Gedling, Mapperley Plains and parts of Carlton too. I think Rushcliffe and Gedling boroughs came in the top 20 for the best places to live. The worst parts are north of the city
NG5 is north side of Nottingham and has some good areas like Arnold, Sherwood and Redhill. NG2 is south side of Nottingham which includes one of the nicest areas West Bridgford but also includes one of the worst areas The Meadows
Hey Ann. I'm Sophia n I find your video interesting. Could please leave your email in one of your video or the comment sec so I could email you, if you don't mind.
I can highly recommend Nottingham, I like the city life with close proximity to some fantastic countryside, Peak District just a short drive away! Good shopping in city centre and lots of little town surrounding, each with their own character and things they offer. Arnold, Bulwell, Beeston, Mapperley Top, Carlton etc Good tram links and public transport links into city, regular bus routes etc As for which area to live, depends what type of accommodation and what budget etc it does vary quite a lot. Things I like most about Nottingham, city life just 15 mins away, countryside 5 mins from my door, nightlife, restaurants, shopping, friendly people most are anyway. There are some dodgy areas, easy to research and a quick visit often confirms! Generally the bad areas are isolated.
@@kimkim4771 Would highly recommend anything in Rushcliffe borough (south Nottingham) it is the nicest part but you pay for it (West Bridgford, Edwalton, Ruddington, Radcliffe-on-Trent etc). Otherwise, the west of the city has nice parts like Beeston and Wollaton.
@@kaij.d7307 thanks you for your suggestions but I found a place in the bulwell area, close to shops and transport and Close to my dad and his partner. I like the area so far.
Hi Anica. Just one question about rent. You said you pay 262 pounds per month for a three-bedroom house, including bills. Is ithat for the entire house or just your bedroom? Thanks for your videos! :)
@@SoloAnn Thanks for your reply, dear Anica. May I ask how many bathrooms are in the house? Do you need to share a single bathroom with your 3 roommates? I just wonder what's the average number of bathrooms in houses in Nottingham :)
I kinda picked up on that too. Tbh, there is very little you can find/ do elsewhere in the UK you can’t find in Nottingham or on a short bus ride beyond
Hey...thanks Alot for giving out such alot of information in a very honest and compact way. Really wanted to know where did you find the accomodation? Thank you again.
Hi Juvena. Thank you for the compliment. I found my current house on the Uni of Nottingham Facebook page for students, but similar cheap houses can be found through Unipol, which is an agency for student housing agency.
