Yeah my name is John Madden I live in Pawtucket Rhode Island but I lived in Rhode Island all my life so some people say Rhode Island's expensive some say Rhode Island's cheap for myself I live in low income housing in Pawtucket Northern Plaza Apartments but I know there's some places that are really good that are 1500 a month you know to 700 800 a month
I was born in Providence. We moved to Coventry at age 4. I left Rhode Island in June of 1978 after graduating from URI. Rhode Island has beautiful summers and pretty autumns, but the winters are way too long and deary. I lived in Maryland for 41 years. I moved to Maui Hawaii 4 years ago. There is no substitute for perfect weather year round in the Maui upcountry between 1,200 to 4,000 feet elevation. I will visit family in Rhode Island from July through early October.
I lived in Middletown and Newport for 4 years, before that, California and Hawaii. Yeah I know the weather is so mild but I truly miss New England...except for the food
I’ve known quite a few people over time move from the UK to RI and really have enjoyed their time here. Or stayed permanently. The biggest downfalls are how seasonal everything is here. You’d probably understand as well as England does get some big weather swings through the year as well. Winters here according on location can be quite dead in comparison to the summers
@@AdamC4 thank you for the info, yes in the uk we are known for having all seasons in one day. I like exploring so I’ll probably end up knowing all the restaurants and hangouts. Do have a Brewery or micro Breweries ?
Interesting video. I moved to wickford last year and I love it! But I can't believe you didn't mention URI for great education. It is world famous for oceanography! Please check us out!
I'm 20 minutes from the shopping centers of CT and 20 minutes from the shopping centers of MA too (oh yes, RI too). AND (TA DAH) Our founder, Roger Williams, was eaten by an apple tree!!!!
Awesome! We are putting out new vids each week so keep checking for em. If you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out - 508-851-588 or inquiries@thehajdarajgroup.com
You left out a major, and unexpected, negative: the department of motor vehicles, and the hell people moving here from another state must go through to register cars & switch licenses.
@AlbertHi Have owned & registered more vehicles than I can count for 50+ years. NEVER have I had to have a VIN checked against a title's VIN. NEVER! And then to pay $15/car for the 'privilege', absurd.
What The Conjuring House up in Harrisville didn’t get a shout out. I lived across the street from that house years before the book and movies. Creepy to say the least. Lots of history and folklore throughout the state.
Ive never been there but would like to visit, but now I think of cons cuz you wnded the video with the negatuves. Lol😂Why'd you mention the pros first, you should do this video again, and talk about the cons first, the the pros, lol😂
west greenwich RI: $260,000 house $5300 taxes. moved to TN: nice $50,000 house $130.00 taxes. Rhode Island does have Evelyn's clam shack in tiverton, and coffee milk. (i brought 6 gallons of syrup to TN)
Probably true, Rhode Island is one of the more expensive states... But it (and New England in general) also has an abundance of multifamily homes, a real asset... while many other states are vast majority single family homes, a liability, another monthly bill... So that's a upside...
@@Ozama1221 personally, it kinda sucks to pay over $100 a month to live in a 2 bedroom house that is fully paid for. 30 years ago, that would pay your mortgage and taxes even $15 per hour wouldn't cut it.
I live in Norfolk, VA. The city has a Pothole hotline and a Pothole Day. On Pothole Day, the city employees do a survey of all potholes. Most are repaired in late Spring. Some wait for the new budget, July 1st. Note: The city is sinking, so in 20-50 years, only the fish will care about the potholes.
I am not sure how things are propertized when budgeting. Another challenge is that as a State we do not have a lot of big corporations here and are not business friendly so we are not able to collect tax on that end.
I would just like to say that I have really no opinion of whether Rhode Island is one of the worst places in the US but I will say this video is a perfect example of systemic racism and the denial it's real. it. I would almost put money on it that these 2 live in a high class area or at least above average. I am a poor white 40. I moved from Boston because I had to go on disability due to seizures unfortunately Leaving my teaching job. This video is a perfect example of white elitist appearing amazingly blind to what actually is going on in society today. Or are they choosing to purposely keep it under wraps because the truth will affect their real-estate commission. Here lies the issue with many white people they deny systemic racism willingly watch occurrence of someone being absolutely wronged in their presence and keep it hush because it is easier for them and they benefit from it. In the video they were reacting (cracking) on, the woman referred to people on the corner "slinging dope". The two laughed hysterically and made fun of the word slinging . I don't know if they live in 2022 ever leave their neighborhood. I live in what I'm sure they would call the "hood" but to me it's a neighborhood, it's my home . Over the winter in the empty parking lot of a closed store there was mattresses chairs and table set up for the people who lived there. Not one day do I go out and someone is not asking me or making a deal at the moment. In the morning I wait 45 minutes at the methadone clinic because there are so many there. In a span of 2 Weeks (2022winter) 19 overdoses happened in my area These are issues going on right now and to laugh at it really just made me sad and hurt that the evolution of civilization seems to have reversed. I'm sure the hosts and others will dismiss this comment because the author of it ,me, is a junkie who wants to live in that. I'm a college graduate I went to grad school and come from a well to do family. Being on disability is not something I took advantage of not to work I didn't want to have seizures. And in my financial bracket I am god damn proud to have an apartment and grateful because I recognize the amount living on the street. You know people shouldn't be laughing at someone hardships. I know not everyone is going to help out voice when there is wrong but atleast admit it's happening. And think of when u laugh at someone and remember what is said to children "how would u like it." Now there were other parts they demonstrated egotistical and plain concietedness but I had to voice this part. I do want them honestly explain why they are on a higher level than others and I'm not asking in sarcasm but curiosity.
The schools are definitely are below average. If u can’t homeschool, do private. Homeschoolers get the best education if done with with effort using a good curriculum. They score the highest.
I was born and raised in Rhode Island and I hated it with a passion. I moved to Florida in 2008 and and I swore that I will die before ever stepping myself into Rhode Island again it the worst state ever.
been living in RI my entire life, heres my 2 cents. pro 1. State of convenience: True but SO false. 10-15 minutes from wherever you need to go is pretty true, but 20 minutes away in RI is like a road trip... SMH. People complain about the distance. "oh well its 20 minutes there and then its 20 minutes back and its an hour long ordeal..." con 1. yeah ive never really had a problem with this. pro 2: eh. yeah kinda true. chinese food is a hit or miss though, but good food. con 2: HELL YES TAXES ARE THROUGH THE ROOOF! pro 3: yeah we got good colleges, and even the worst one (CCRI) isn't bad at all. con 3: true, our public education is total crap. pro 4: cant really speak to that con 4: literally yesterday i pulled over cus i thought i had a flat tire (my car was shaking so bad). nope it was just a lot of potholes.
People make the state what it is and the social norms that exist in any area. Perhaps you didn’t want to offend anyone, but you didn’t touch upon the most important aspect of what makes any area of the country good or bad - the people. Having personally lived in Maryland, DC, Illinois, Arizona and overseas my opinion is that it is very challenging for “outsiders” to move here without already having a support network, family or “marrying into” RI. People that grew up in RI rarely leave the state to see how other people behave or how others outside of RI or New England define “friendly”. If you are accustomed to “midwest nice” or are considering moving to RI or New England without any existing family in the area, you will likely have a very difficult experience. I would not put RI on the top of any list considering whether it is welcoming for non-RI outsiders. The state is extremely insular and frankly lacks cultural diversity of most other major or midsized cities. You can draw your own conclusions about what that may result in if you are not part of the more prominent backgrounds that make up the state. There are some very noticeable racial perspectives in RI that are not great for people who enjoy more culturally diverse locations. Beautiful state from a geographic standpoint and all the pros/cons on this video are spot on. Been here over five years now and not sure that we will stay beyond having our last kid finish high school. Relationships for outsiders can feel very “transactional” particularly if you didn’t already have a family or friend connection to get you into the accepted outsider category.
Taxes suck. No-one wants to pay them, but consider what they buy: infrastructure, police, fire. My dad always said taxes are what we pay for civilization.
I was born and raised in RI… I’ve lived many other places… and they were fine. Many people including my parents left and would never move back here. I wouldn’t say I love or hate everything about RI… And I won’t say I’ll stay here forever. But I’ve always liked RI… and living here. It’s not nearly as bad as Mass or Conn.🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🥃
I was born and raised in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations and never heard of coffee (cawffee?) milk. I haven't lived in RI since 1980.
