Con number 1 is that it’s Expensive
In West Hollywood, California, 19.1% of the population owns their homes, while approximately 80.9% rent. The average cost of a single-family home in West Hollywood, California in 2021 is $2,300,812 which is the highest in the United States and the highest in California. The average one-bedroom apartment cost is approximately $2,204 per month.
The second con of West Hollywood is that it is crowded. West Hollywood is not the largest city in LA but it is one of the most crowded.
The third con is that is might just be too central. If you live in West Hollywood, you are going to be about 20 minutes to any freeway, 101 to the east through Hollywood, 405 to the west through Beverly Hills and the 10 down south through la Cienega.
Pro 1: Entertainment and restaurants
West Hollywood is one of the most famous and historic cities in the entire world with dozens and dozens of movies make surrounding West Hollywood because of all that it’s been through.
Pro 2: Walkable
It is one of best walkable cities in LA. I’m sure you’ve heard that you definitely need a car when living in LA well if you live in the heart of WeHo, you can walk just about anywhere. Everything you’d want to do on a weekly basis will be within a mile or half mile. The only downside would be walking uphill when going toward sunset but it’s not even that big of a deal. Walk all along Melrose then take san Vicente up to Santa Monica boulevard and there will always be interesting places to go or people to see.
Pro 3: Lifestyle: West Hollywood and LA in general is known for being a super healthy place where people only drink almond milk and get smoothies every day well this might just be a fact.

I lived in Weho for about 7 years. I really did walk everywhere, it was great. I miss parts of it, but I wouldn’t live there again as it felt very landlocked to me when I wanted to go anywhere else in LA or OC.

I remember the 80s when West Hollywood was full of starving comics and heavy metal bands. The city gradually became more and more unaffordable. It's a nice town and very well managed, but very expensive. Yes, it's very crowded for its size, and it gets more crowded when there's an event going on, like every Friday and Saturday night. All and all, a good city but not cheap and not perfect.

@@darrenkrizlosangeles By the time Melrose Place was on the air you would NEVER find an apartment with such a mix of starving actors, musicians, doctors power lawyers. By 1993 things had changed substantially and it was ALL doctors, power lawyers and maybe a successful architect or two of they owned their own firm. It just doesn't have the wild, free creative energy it used to because it doesn't have the same spirit. In the early 80s you had starving bands like Motley Crue or Ratt living up Larabee and Clark. I can't even imagine that now. WeHo became its own city in 1984, but it was still a number of years before it became totally unaffordable. And crowding is a big issue. There's nowhere to park! All residents need permits to park and they are very persnickety about enforcing parking. All small cities are like that. Look at Beverly Hills next door, or Santa Monica, Culver City, etc. Then there's the whole red light camera thing. Thankfully, WeHo got rid of their red-light cams a couple years ago, but Beverly Hills and Culver still have them, and they are whopping tickets.

I live in Boston and have been planning to relocate to LA for about a year now to build out my podcast and coaching business. I'd like to build my network in LA to help enhance my podcast and get guests on that are in entertainment. I'm interested to hear people's opinions on whether it's worth the move to LA for this reason?

Hey Darren! Need to relocate in West Hollywood for 68 days October 8th. Trying to find the best place to stay (air bnb). My budget is around 4500$/month or 160$/night. I will have an office/recording studio in the Solotech Building. I'm a composer/music Director for companies like Cirque du Soleil and my girlfriend, who will come 2 weeks/month, is an architect. Any suggestions Darren? She LOVES hip places and especially, beautiful places to walk to for markets and restaurants. Thanks a lot.

What would be an alternative to West Hollywood in LA that is somewhat more affordable, has low crime rates, is vibrantly gay friendly, has a great city/nature balance and offers plenty of jobs in the tech/marketing industry?
@darrenkrizlosangeles
@darrenkrizlosangeles Год назад
If not West Hollywood, I'd recommend somewhere near "Silicon Beach" in the westside to have all those preferences of yours. Playa Vista/Del Rey, even Culver City could work as it's a little more inland. Silicon beach is home to several jobs in the tech/marketing industries so it will make your commute much easier!

Live in weho and love it. You neglected to mention the diversity of the town and predominant demographic is LGBTQ. A big con to weho (as with much of LA county) is it’s homeless crisis and many people with dogs fail to pick up their poop.

$2,200.00 a month for an apartment? $15.00 for a sandwich? I would have to make $100k a year to live comfortably. I’m sorry, it’s a nice place to visit, but I’d rather make $100k and live in area where the cost of living is much better on my income.
