I thought the comments on loose natural hair videos were bad until I started watching sisterloc vids lol People love policing other people’s hair.

I'm not sure why buildup is an issue with some folks...The only products I use are moisturizing shampoo, and Moroccan oil. Lint WILL build up if you don't sleep in scarf. As far as head ache and hurting... your loctician was over tighting your hair which can cause scalp issues. I'm 3 years in and wish I had done it 11 years ago. We'll see if I get bored in 7 years. Thanks for your experience and sharing

Thank you for your honest input! I have been really looking into Sisterlocks for a while now. Seeing your take on them helped me see a broader perspective! I have super thick and long natural hair too. And I'm very lazy about styling like you've mentioned to be also( usually I'll two-strand twist and throw on a wig lol)! That's part of the reason why I really want Sisterlocks so bad; so then I could just wear roller curls or do nothing if I don't want to and still look good lol.Plus they are gorgeous to me( ugh I just loved your Sisterlocks pictures). Don't get me wrong loose natural hair is equally gorgeous (like yours 😍) I personally just don't have the patience to make it look presentable everyday. But look at you girl maintaining your beautiful long mane on your own! You are doing a great job. Anyone with eyes should see that instead of trying to discourage you to not be a loose natural. You are taking down 550 locks while styling and maintaining the health of your locks and loose hair-- that is some SERIOUS DEDICATION girl good job! 😀

Thank you, this is so sweet! I'm so glad I could help! Yes, I am very glad I had my sisterlocks for as long as I did, it was so easy to roll out of bed and take care of them. I really appreciate your comments and I wish you all the best on your sisterlock journey, how exciting! I am having my take down party this weekend so more updates to come soon!

Kayla DeSouza That's awesome! I can't wait to see them! Thank you for wishing me well on my new journey I'm about to encounter.I also wish you the very best as being a loose natural! I have been on it for 3 years and it's fun watching your hair grow and flourish over time! However, I can't wait to start a new journey and see what the Sisterlock experience has in store.❤️

Great take. I had SL for over 10 years and started taking them out like you showed but didn't have the patience and just went TWA, just stopped getting retightened and chopped. Your cons were correct for me as well. Each of the over 500 small locs contained an inner seam of "product buildup" locked inside but appeared clean on the outside. They were virtually carefree though and always brought compliments. A good experience overall. Enjoy your new part of your hair journey!

Seems like you just want to try loose natural since you were only 11 when you first got the locs. Have fun experimenting 💇🏾‍♀️

I have sisterlocs and they are medium size. I have about 350 locs. This is my 9th year loced and my 15th year natural. I wore my hair loose for over 6 years and that’s what led me to sisterlocks lol. I loved my loose hair, I did every natural style and my hair grew to bra strap length. I went through the masters and doctoral program-while I worked a full time job-and got to know my hair. Let me tell you, the detangling process was the most challenging for me as a loose natural because of all the time it took?! When your hair reaches a certain length-time is what you may require. lol It’s good to know you can take down sisterlocs, I figured you could. I am enjoying my loced journey so most of the cons you mentioned I can’t relate to. I think lint here and there may be a natural part of having locs. It’s no big deal to me. However, it’s a beautiful thing to have options. Enjoy your new journey! ❤️

Same here. I had locs for 7 years (bigger locs, 144 originally, which I combined and combined over the years until I ended with 77). Cut them off and wore my loose natural hair for 9 years---and just started a new set of locs specifically because I am sick of detangling!!! It's such a hassle on long natural hair (if you're a person, like me, who prefers low maintenance). The set of locs I just started are HUGE. Only 33 locs! I'm fed TF up! Haha

You nailed it!! The lint has been an issue for me. I was initially religious about tying up my hair at night and I still got lint. After 3 years, I am taking mine down. Knowing that my loose natural can get long. I too am just taking it out and not cutting it.

Hi Inez! I’m in the same spot you found yourself in! Had my locs 3 years. They’re stunning and I love them but buildup/lint have been an issue for me and those tiny white bulbs from my shed hairs. 😖 Did you end up taking your locs down? If so, how’s it been?

Silk pillow cases prevents lint. However, the type of clothing you wear can cause lint to get into your hair.sweaters, certain fabrics, especially if your hair is hanging down on the fabric.

A Con to me is that, sisterlocks are expensive u have to stay on schedule with your loctician i go every six weeks BUT i lost my job and fell 3 months behind its 80.00 plus the $20 each week that you missed beyond the 6th week or however long your scheduled. instead of a flat rate per hour...at least thats how it is here in Kansas City. Ive had sisterlocks for 9 years

I think they are really pretty, but what you've said is exactly why I wouldn't want them. I can't do with seeing crud in my hair, even when its clean I'd feel like its dirty. I also love playing with other protective as well as regular styles. My length is sometimes what I want to display, so I'll flat iron it then. Which you never can do with sister locs. Even tho its a low manipulation style, they're a style that takes the LONGEST to show growth. You can easily keep your hair braided for 3 or 4 months. Each time you take out your braids, you'll see quite a bit of growth. Sister locs your just not. Plus part of what I've found to be so great about going natural is NOT having to be up in the hair salon all the time.

I big chopped my Sisterlocks after 11.5 years. I so agree with the build-up. I was not diligent with keeping my hair covered. It seems like a magnet for lint. I was shocked when I saw the build-up when I cut my hair. And I was just over people messing in my hair for hours upon a time. I was over the retightening. 7 months later I'm probably going to get microlocks. The size I want is bigger than sisterlocks "allows" so I guess I get to save some money. I'll just have to keep my hair covered and be diligent about shaking it out. Good luck with the rest of your deinstall

Thank you for this! I want to take mine down but didn't want to cut my hair. It's been 5 years but I've had some damaged and keeping them maintained gets hectic. The build up is an issue for me as well. I don't know where you are but if I were near you I would help you take them down🙂. You're right about the price as well and the soreness! This has been my experience as well! I ran into financial difficulties these last 2 years and wasn't able to get them retightened so I had a lot of new growth. The person that finally retightened them combined so many of them and then cut off a lot of them too. I will be looking into taking mine down.

is there any difference between interlocking microlocs vs the interlocking in sisterlocks? SL consultants make it seem like its top secret...but theres only so many directions you can interlock a strand of hair. the only difference i can see is that SL are obviously on smaller sections of hair. thanks for this vid!

Your mom was right to put locs in your hair. Honestly your going to regret cutting it out. You could have always combined your sisterlocs so its not as small and so that you could maintain it yourself. There are videos on youtube about it. Lose natural is ALOT of work and it does not grow "fast" as you think. If you are coming from a style that requires little maintence to lose hair which if you are lose natural you need to maintain it. Also the styles with lose natural hair are very limited. It's either you have weaves, wigs, braids (which is all fake hair) or wearing it in a huge fro which for the workpalce I doubt you will be doing. Ive been a lose natural for years and only now finding about locs. Wish I did it sooner but it always shocks me to see people who grew their locs for years cut it off only to cover it up with a straight wig or braids. Braids are known to damage your hair over time and its differnet from locs. Its your life but I know your parents are probably well aware that in a few years you will be wishing you never cut your locs.
@kayladesouza3631
@kayladesouza3631 6 лет назад
Xher Blood I’ll probably be wearing it how I am in my video most days or in twists (without fake hair added), that’s my natural hair and it’s almost at waist length so I’m happy with that. Growing it won’t be my main focus. And there are many options to wear your hair other than a fro or with fake hair added. Again one is example is how I have it in this video and my other videos. I try something new each week and love having fun with it. Also I’m 23 so my parents don’t really care how I wear it anymore.

Is your hair going to look waist length without the flat iron? your hair is going to thin out and break overtime from flat ironing it. How you are wearing your hair is really not practical if you plan to retain your length. Your hair is already damaged from combing the locs out and I would not recommend flat ironing it.. I think more research should have been done before you took out your locs. My point still stands and im speaking from experience as being a lose natural for majority of my life.
@kayladesouza3631
@kayladesouza3631 6 лет назад
You’re entitled to your opinion and I’m entitled to change my hair after a decade of the same style. Like I said before growing it won’t be my main focus, I just want it to be thick and healthy. And the majority of my hair has been out for 11 months or so and is quite healthy after a few washes and conditioning. If I were to guess I’d say I watched about 200 hours of RU-vid videos of research before making such a big decision. I’m not an impulsive person. I wasn’t born with locks either, I had loose natural hair for the first 11 years of my life so I’m not completely clueless as to how to manage it. Last thing is I don’t plan to straighten it often at all, my graduation from grad school is a special occasion and one time this year won’t hurt. Here are just some of the RU-vidrs I take inspiration from, all with long and health type 4 hair: ru-vid.com ru-vid.com/show-UCVAWpjbsJi8BTseBT-AsNQA ru-vid.com ru-vid.com/show-UCkeq3CQwenzQ_WQ6gPKtc8w Here’s another youtuber who combed out her locks and straighten her hair: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aJdJDX5tFqM.html

The last link ( the lady that combed out her locs) has loced it up again... I will be interested in seeing your thoughts in a few months as long natural hair really is a lot of work. I have locs just past bsl - have had them about 8 years and couldn't be happier still, before locs, I had apl relaxed hair ( I relaxed twice a year to get that length) but the tangling and breakage was a nightmare. I also had to wear my hair in a bun 24/7 to keep my length. No more.
