PROS AND CONS OF WORKING AT A DAYCARE

Working at a daycare can be tough and rewarding! There are many things you should consider before working at a daycare, especially if you want to try to get a job in a school!
I did not realize elementary schools might not see daycare experience as relevant teaching experience and I kind of wish I would have chosen a different summer job if I could go back in time.
Despite that though, working at a daycare has its positive factors as well and no matter what it is relevant experience in life to take care of children at any age!
I hope you enjoy and find this helpful!
Love you all lots!

One other thing people may not realize about working at a daycare is how physically tiring it can be. So much up and down working with the young ones. It's definitely an active job. Thanks for this video!

She’s right about the rules. Toddlers are the most hectic to work with. They are always hitting, biting, pushing and running into things and so accident reports have to be written up for an physical marks made.

YES! I am a lead teacher right now (I was hired as an assistant and the original lead left, and no one wanted to take over the class), and I am writing about four reports every single day at LEAST. It is so tiring and frustrating, especially when I have disgruntled parents. I do my best to do everything with grace, but my gosh, it is getting ridiculous. Toddlers are so difficult!

The best part of this job are the kids. They're awesome, even the cheeky ones. But that's it. They pay is horrendous for all the work. The hours should be illegal. I used to to 7.30am to 6.30pm. I would be there when the parents drop off the kids and when they came back to pick them up. Not to mention you WILL be constantly sick. Kids get sick all the time and it doesn't help that the managers of day care only care about money and ignore the policy of not allowing sick children to attend. Of course they will spread it to all other kids and teachers constantly. Working day care is like the retail of childcare work. It's hell.

There are no pros. American daycare are terrible places for children and workers alike. I have over two decades worth of knowledge about how terrible it truly is. When you're young and ignorant, you think it's an easy, carefree job and able to make easy dough, but it's a lawless system where everyone suffers. Especially the kids.

In 104 degree heat. Just forgot about him. The site supervisor and the owner pretty much threatened us not to say anything to anyone or the parents of the child or else we would get fired because she "spent all her money on this " and "this daycare is her baby" and blah blah. So today i quit. I couldnt handle all the bullshit and the pressure. The supervisor would host jello shot parties at her house on the weekends and call other employees ugly but on mondays shed want us to respect her. I couldnt do it. I loved the kids and etc but i couldnt deal with the management .

Some employers do not allow disabled people to be more creative to the children because they want the staff who have a degree to create the curriculum for the children without adding more ideas for children. It also depends on the Dept. of Education for children to learn about interesting projects for higher learning skills. How can we make children more interested in learning independently and allowing the children to bring ideas?

However, I'm in college for early childhood education and once I migrate to a center im almost certain the pay will still remain at ten minimum given it would be my first year in and this is just for my associates. So without my restaurant tips considering I'll be at a daycare fulltime, and less frequent deposits I already know it will be an adjustment until I hopefully work my way up the pay system. I’m a high school senior and 17 and I rllyyy would love to be like a helper and assistant with kids and I was just wondering if they they would let someone work who is kinda younger? I really am passionate and I can show them tht even tho I don’t have actual job experience in teaching - I have done plentyyy of volunteering and been a Sunday school teacher/ assistant for children. And I really want to go in the healthcare field tht involves children so it’s also another reason why I think working In a daycare center would help
@hansonfam5

Hi Afrah! I started working at a daycare when I was 19 so it is probably possible to start when you are 17! If you are taking any child care related classes or can volunteer with children that might help too! I haven't hired for a daycare so I'm not sure what they might be looking for, but each daycare is a little different so I would recommend applying to many different daycares to see if they would hire an assistant! You may also want to consider applying for Montessori schools or camps as well! I hope that helps and good luck 😊

For most of my duration working at a daycare I was a teachers assistant, but towards the end I was filling in for the main teacher and creating lessons a lot. I was not quite a main teacher but I also couldn't commit to working longer than the summer and they didn't want a main teacher for only a few months!

I have no experience working with children. A lot of them want degrees and one year experience. My degree is in computer science. Not early childhood development. I have no kids myself and I never held a baby before. I’m not sure where this experience should come from when I have no money to get a degree nor money to take a class. I’m still in school

Best bet, babysit. Volunteer babysitting for neighbors or family. If you do that for a family member make sure they are paying you even for strangers. Most importantly, check your state for CPR and First Aid classes.

Lots of degrees that work with kids give you experience in the classroom

Literally apply and they’ll probably hire you because daycares are always understaffed. You literally don’t need a degree at all.

@@hannahuahh and this is why I don’t want any kids I have going to daycare!!!!! The workers never have degrees or experience! they’re so understaffed they’ll hire ANYBODY! then kids who have special needs are tossed aside and their needs are continually ignored Kids who have special needs mainly but also NT kiddos too!!!!

Honestly, every job has good sides and bad sides! Working in a daycare can really challenge your patience, but overall you do it because you love working with the kids and the difference you can make in their lives! I have worked with other staff who make me crazy, but at the end of the day you either learn to see the positives or find something better! Overall though, working with kids can be really fun and I really loved my job in the grand scheme of everything!
