Yes, pros/cons videos are always good. Gives insight to the masses and what might be a con to some, is a pro to others.

Love this video! A suggestion: pros/cons of different grips. For e.g. hammer, thumb brace vs pinch.

Ultimately it comes down to what style you put your time into. I started with short draw and got pretty good. I went to half butterfly after a bird shrugged off a hit from my short draw rig. That butterfly kiss is no joke and I nearly gave up on learning long draw because of it. Watching Robert's videos sorted me out and now I suck at short draw. I decided to stick with simple shot 0.7, 15-22 for half butterfly and learn how to pull them. Those at a 42 inch draw hit super hard. No bird is gonna fly away from that.

Nice balanced look at it. Shot generation time being longer means you have to use better follow through with a steadier frame hand. I use two draws both a long behind ear and full butterfly. The long draw is like an archery draw and I get to lock in my back and be much more comfortable holding draw weight, felt cramped with a weird elbow position on short draw. Butterfly is really balanced across both shoulders as essentially arms are in similar position.

Go Smo, good stuff man. Another pro of short draw is its cheaper! Also it's easier to pull from your pocket and shoot, which is a big benefit if you hunt.

I once smashed the Oakleys off of my face doing a long draw 🤣Thank goodness they're made of polycarbonate. I've been practicing long draw with the thumb down like Chuckin Steel but my accuracy varies. Short draw is my go to because i don't intend hunt small game, so fps isn't even an issue with me. I just need to hit the target consistently more than once. Chris Gaffin, Wayne Martin, Gamekeeper John, Nathan Masters, the list goes on and on of short draw shooters I can think of. This pros and cons series looks promising man! Keep it up! ✌

A shorter draw can depend on the shooter and their comfort with releasing the bands without the fear of the ammo giving them a butterfly kiss or a fork hit. And I can agree on the band weight and taper for faster ball acceleration, the right taper plus draw weight makes a huge difference in shooting.

I started off with a short draw and was able to become proficient quickly. When I went to extended draw aiming became more of a process sighting down the top band adjusting angles for both windage and elevation to get the ball to hit at your reference point. When you do that the fork width becomes a lot less of an issue. I can shoot a compact frame like a Champ the same as shooting the old Hairsplitter frame with a huge fork width. I am starting to shoot full butterfly and doing well with it but there are more variables to master to do it well. I think trying to shoot any form of long draw before you have mastered short draw is a mistake and you will get hit in the cheek a lot. 3/8 steel balls hurt!

Also wind not just band buzz but your arms get blow around when they are way out there like a scarecrow.

For me, short draw is better for hunting. Less movement to be detected by game, easier to shoot at weird angles, and less room free of vegetation to shoot from. Not that there aren't excellent long draw hunters. Long draw can deliver more power with less draw weight so could have an accuracy advantage in hunting....." That's why there is so many colors in a crayon box"

what is the "proper" speed to achieve for a squirrel kill at 10 meters with a 3/8" ball? 180fps? or do I need to go to 200+? thks
@TheSmoShow1
@TheSmoShow1 18 дней назад
You'll want a 3/8in steel to be traveling about 250fps for a sure kill on a squirrel. They're tough critters and can take a whooping. 200fps is probably fine for most feathered game or rabbits
