We chose to live 5 years as expats - we wanted to pay off all student debt as well as allow me to stay home with our child plus the second on the way. So we saved like mad (only had to pay for food and then a car we bought). This was before the internet so communication with family was very different. This decision and our goals set us up for a financially less stressful life and we learned how to live a more frugal life and not spending money on useless stuff.

Good video Lucy. Some good news regarding wi-fi/internet on vv. In addition to using star link, they are also partnering with ses for additional high-speed internet at sea. So, while the poor internet on-board most ships is getting a bit better, the decent internet on virgin is getting much better! Fair winds!

I thought for a good while that I'd love to work on a cruise ship, until I spent 10 months long-term cruising last year (as a passenger). It must be such an intense environment for the crew, and also frustrating to be surrounded by people always on vacation!

It sounds similar to going to boarding school in some ways (learning to rely on yourself, you can't wait to go home for your vacation, you don't have to pay for much once you're there etc).

At least I'd get a private cabin. I'm a singer, and no matter how good any of us may be, absolutely nobody can stand sharing a room with one of us, and the cruise lines know this.

And btw, Lucy has many videos dealing with this topic, particularly her interviews with cruise ship hotel manager, others interviewing bar tenders / bar staff, multiple interviews with a cruise ship chefs, restaurant server, etc.. Also interview videos with housekeeping staff, pot washers, etc. And interview with cruise ship reception staff, excursion staff, etc. Have a look at some more of her over 400 videos and you may find what you're looking for. 😀

What if someone is alone and have no Home, even 1 months off would be difficult! for example I'm fully alone, no family , no friends! if I go work on cruise ship then I have to give back my apartment to the land lord and obviously if I don't work, no money! please don't read it as hate or something, just want to know your opinion, I still didn't make any decision to work on cruise ships, but I'm considering it and I have to get my apartment back, and also resign from my current job

Hi. Ive been watching alot of your youtube videos lately. Im a fan. You are very helpful and insightful. I am currently applying for alot of possitions with royal carribean. Im wondering if any of the companies you have worked for ever offered any discounts on post-contract cruises. To elaborate. If i wanted to take my family on a cruise when i return home from a contract. Would any company offer employees a discounted price qs guest aboard one of their ships?

Hey Lucy! Great video as always :) And oh my gosh love your make-up!!😄I was wondering though, is it possible to work on a cruise ship without having a permanent fixed address on land? I assume not, I currently rent a place in Denmark but if I got the job I cant really keep renting it, I could try adding myself to the address of a family member but honestly if I could avoid that, that would be great 😅Was wondering if you know. Many thanks in advance!!

I would use whatever address is on your passport, or you can put down your family members address, even if you do not actually stay there when you are at home. Nothing ever gets sent to this address so you don't actually need to live there. But you do need to have an address to write on all of your documents. Hope this helps. xx

Stormchaser, Lucy has videos here titled "What really happens behind the scenes during a cruise ship emergency" and another with a complete "life boat tour" (with a deck safety officer assisting), as well as separate video detailing what to take with you in the life boat, another with an interview with a safety training officer, another with a detailed interview with the ship captain and another with the second officer, and still a couple others showing some of her crew safety drills. I'm not sure what else she could cover. Perhaps you should have a look at some of her over 400 videos here?

Of course, the 'no expenses' is dependent on living with someone else (like your wonderful parents) who have a place waiting for you during your down time. If you live alone or are the provider for your home, those expenses may be reduced, but not gone.

of course. I just mean that once you're on board you will not incur any extra expenses on top of the expenses you already have.

Thanks for the channel. I'm a 50yr old male from Minnesota. American cruise lines and norwegian cruise line have offered me a job. ACL is dishwashing and NCL pride of america galley utility. Will I be able to advance quickly with good performance? I don't have any cruise line skills so I was hoping I'd be able to become a cook, lead, supervisor through good service and on the job training. Thak you very much for your time, Greg. Oh. If I'm washing dishes will I see the light of day?

Hi I would like to congratulations you on being offered a job and I wish you the best of luck…. I do have a question if you don’t mind me asking I’ve been trying to get a job as well on American Cruise Lines do you have any advice for me because I applied about a year ago and my application was denied sadly… What are some tips that I can use? Does my resume have to be professional?

@@keithianrobinsonnn4618 I did pay an online service through indeed to do my resume. i think it might be hard to get some jobs. i have ten years of cooking and catering experience and they offered me a job washing dishes. i have no 5 star experience. i did express how badly i wanted to get my foot in the door at the top of every application and i applied for everything. i accepted the job with ncl because they were the first to contact me. i think that after my 5 month trip on the pride of america getting the next job will be easier. if i can get on. for the stcw they ask about criminal offences. i have 2 dwi's in my past. one is about 20-25 yrs old and the other is pushing 30yrs old. i dont drink anymore. if i make it through the process you should. good luck keep trying

Have you thought about actually walking around the ship or in ports while you do your videos, so you can bring regular people interested in cruising to your channel?

I you go back it seems she has done some very interesting videos in some ports. One of my favorites was about 10 or 11 months ago when Lucy showed is a crew tour and lunch in Bimini.

HI there, Yes absolutely! You should check out the channel 'Chris Wong Vlogs'. Chris works in the casino onboard. The Casino is a great department to work in. If you get put on the right ship you have the opportunity to make a really good amount of money.

@@user-sy9se1vs4b Just be careful, what I recommend is that you always unplug it when you stop using it and always let it cool before storing it. The first few times I was afraid to use it because they don't recommend it but there is no time to wait for it. dry your hair naturally, all women do the same !

Biggest con for me (did 9 contracts on NCL and CCL) was knowing I was working for and contributing to an industry that is tremendously destructive to the oceans (including continually killing both fish and marine mammals) and atmosphere, and indeed destructive to human health via the huge amounts of toxic food and drink served in excess and at almost all hours.
