Thank you for Con #4. I have been doing research on beardies as I’ve been wanting to get one and had not come across anything about the smell. I already own 2 rescue Leo’s, 2 Emerald Swifts, 5 bahaman anoles and 2 mourning geckos (each with 2 egg clutches as of 4 days ago!) and I really want to get either a beardie or a crested gecko and I’m having trouble deciding.

Can't imagine life without our Beardie Sandy! Her new 75 Gallon takes up a lot of space but she loves it and even then yes I feel she needs more space. But we let her roam around the room for a bit to stretch more lol

I love that his name is Dude. That is great. I got my Bearded Dragon from Petco in 2015. She was the last remaining dragon in the cage and i didn't want to think of what they do with the ones that don't sell when they are tiny. I thought she was a boy until she laid her first clutch. Her name is Loki and if I could figure out how to add a picture to a RU-vid reply I would. She is lazy until I bring her out to play with the cats. I am not kidding, she plays with my cats.

I had a little beardie named peanut but then ended up giving her away due to not having time to take care of her properly and now I regret giving her away because peanut looked different from the other dragons ( in a good way) and I miss her sm !💔🥺

Ive heard some people say its a con that they eat live feeder insects. I dont find this a con at all. I actually, like many other owners, keep an active breeding colony of roaches. But I completly understand that some people just dont like insects. So I understand why some would think it would be a con. Jut adding a suggestion. Apologies if someone has already mentioned this.

One little point on bathing your beardie! If your bearded dragon doesn’t drink it’s water it IS NOT getting hydrated there is a common myth (yes myth) that they absorb water through their skin. No. They are not amphibians they cannot and do not observe water through their skin or anywhere else. They DO however get hydrated when they drink water which they can often do in water because it is moving, they can’t see water when it’s still therefore they do not drink it. You don’t have to worry about your bearded dragon getting dehydrated if you give them plenty of greens (you can spray them with water too). The only time you really need to bathe them is if they are dirty/smell or if they are having a rough time shedding. It is of course a fun activity for some bearded dragons who love swimming but it is by no means necessary, you shouldn’t force your beardie to bathe if it doesn’t enjoy it. On another note I have had the same thought about someone making a beardie cookbook 😅

I’ve got no solid answer about size of tank, I’ve had 20 breeders tell me that females can easily live in 40 gallon, while people are saying spending 500$ and up is normal and required. But let’s look at the reality, not all bearded dragons are the same size it all depends on what they eat and if they are healthy. if you do not have the space for the right size enclosure for your bearded dragon, then don’t get the animal please.

I take problem with the idea that you shouldn’t get any pet at a local pet store, because they are most likely wild caught or could be sick, that’s not far on the animals, hear me out, isn’t that the idea of getting a pet? I’m picturing them taking care of them, giving them a better home a better life. my sister tried convincing me of not getting my corn snake from a local pet store and the way I look at it I took her from an abused home and sheltered her and she’s having the best time of her life after all that’s the point of getting a pet. It just breaks my heart that people are so selective about getting a pet from other places. And I understand the reason is present the idea of saving a pet.?
