World Series of Boxing which I know devin haney would have qualified for pays a decent salary to amateur boxers. And it's not the Gold Medal that I care about... it's more the progress of his career. He's 17 and would have been fighter tougher opponents in WSB then he is fighting now at the pros since the fighters with a winning record on WSB qualify for the olympics. Also, if his manager was smart they'd find investors to invest in his career. Many boxers actually do this if they are extremely talented like devin haney is. These investors know that it will take a while for you to fully develop and return their investments so they would be okay with him fighting as an amateur until 20.

I thought I was the only one thinking that, I like the kid , but it seems as if he could have stayed amateur for a while and fine tuned a bit of his skills. At 17 there's absolutely no rush for him to turn pro. Hopefully they move him kind of slow and let him mature mentally as well as physically, very few kids at 18, 19 can deal with the top guys in a 12 rd fight. It takes maturity and a lot of focus to endure 12 rounds of boxing against a top fighter with a grown. Mans mind and a man who has his full strength.

@@firefx99 u missed the entire point of what he said. Yes all the fine details are great and those of us that know boxing can watch and admire the little things a technician does. But most fans are casuals. Most fans dont know boxing. So if boxing becomes more technical is can become more boring to most fans thus more fighters will have less money. The boxing world is making great moves to revive the sport as we did see a slight fall off after the Mayweather era. DAZN, PBC for example are great organizations that bring a lot of positive attention to boxing. But one thing ive noticed is many fighters are no longer fighters. They are boxings. They treat boxing as a sport rather than a lifestyle. They play the game instead of fight and get dirty. Look are R Garcia vs Rollie. Thats what happens when a fighter meets a boxer. Does this new approach to the sport increase longevity? Thats debatable as many fighter went a long time in the trenches. Manny Pacquiao at 40 yo is a prime example. Those of us that know boxing appreciate all the beautiful things regarding the sweet science. But the question of "will the Mayweather influence negatively affect the future of boxing?" Is still a worthy question as we did witness a dead zone after Mayweather retired. De La Hoya tried to Force Canelo as the new face of boxing but Canelo never filled Mayweathers light. This next generation of fighters will eventually fight at the highest levels (A class, elite) and we will see if they are built to handle it. But right now guys like Ryan, Spence, Charlos, Tank, Loma, Haney, Hurd, etc. Havent stood in front of the best. When they do we will see if the more technical approach is as entertaining as them fighting journeymen
