I'm kind of with Kidman on the issue. For starters, if you have a good script and skilled actors who can create a convincing set physical behaviors for their character, that's all that's needed, AND the very presence of prosthetics can be a distraction for viewers. Far more important is the interaction of characters within the story than individual appearances.
@alexia5316
@alexia5316 4 года назад
@@hd-xc2lz I agree. I am not sure why everyone has to look exactly like the person they are playing. There are so many other important things like the emotions they convey or how they behave that good actors can do to transmit the essence of the character. These are films not documentaries. I think prosthetics has great value in science fiction or in other cases where the character really has to be transformed (eg to show scars etc)...

You cannot sculpt living tissue like you can sculpt clay or silicone. You cannot just push and shift anywhere you like. You have to know where nerves and blood vessels are and leave them intact. You cannot just cut anywhere or add anywhere. So. Maybe he would be a great plastic surgeon, or maybe he'd be met with the same limitations all surgeons are. Which are the limitatio's of their "material" being a living human, who needs their health and functionality. It's impossible to say. Also, with his art now, he can take his time sculpting, thinking, analyzing, reshaping. In surgery, there is some time pressure because you cannot have the patient lie on the operating table endlessly. And maybe he wouldn't be as good under time pressure. We don't know.

Giving the actor enough freedom to properly emote while making it so close and believable that we the viewer buy into it. It may not be 'perfect' but its almost better for it.

I had the greatest pleasure of watching a screening for Darkest Hour and having Q&A with Gary Oldman, Kazuhiro and colleagues Malinowski, Sibbick and Makeup Artist Magazine's Michael Key afterwards. Oldman has a great respect and relationship with the makeup artists. He appreciates their talent and will do what it takes to make a spectacular film. Kazuhiro is is in a league among few. A true master artist.

I was amazed and then terrified at how easy it would be for someone to do this and then pull off some crazy ish.

Hands down, they nailed it. Charlize disappeared into the character and I had to question if I was watching MK or CT. It wasn't just prosthetics though...she nailed the cadence of he speech, her accent, her walk. John Lithgow also looked amazing, although Nicole Kidman was probably the weakest transformation.

I have wondered for a long time why people who have had devastating facial injuries or other disfigurements can't obtain silicone molds of another person's (real person or not) face to fit over their own. At least it would suffice to go out in public. Maybe they already have them, I don't know, but I've seen interviews where the person said people would stop and stare, and kids would start crying. Molds could be taken, and a new face of silicone could be made to fit perfectly.

omg THAT'S why I didn't recognize Charlize Theron when I saw the trailer! I couldn't place why it didn't look like her, and it's because this guy was working his magic.

I wonder if master Hiro has a practical solution to the current trend of de-aging older actors via CGI.
