I always use Locktite hard epoxy on both ends of my board. I make it into a semi-circle by putting a piece of painter tape across the end of the board how ever far in I like to coat (3-4 inches). I then wrap a piece of painter tape around the edge of the end or the board to make a barrier. Then put a little Vaseline on the inside or that tape to keep the epoxy from bonding to the tape. I then pour the epoxy. Depending on how much you tilt your board (back for thick forward for thinner) you control the depth of the coating. I usually end up with a 1/4 - 1/2 thick coating. Take the tape off and you have a clean, clear, hard, semicircle of plastic protection. It will wear down over months but the wood will be spared. You can also just repeat the procedure to get your thickness back. Also, if you already have razor tail this will fix the board.
2 oz might not seem like much but it's enough. I'm sure the resin is thicker on the concave which might cause balace issues on flip tricks. Good for a cruiser board though.
You can use it for the bottom of your board, but if you have a graphic on top just use clear grip tape. I was able to get some for $5 at my local skate shop
That’s what I wanna know... also if it doesn’t crack it will probably board slide much better with a slick coating like that. But I feel like it will crack.
Santa Cruz literally made a skateboard with a plastic coating on it. No matter how hard you try to scratch it, it rarely gets any scratches, you really really need hard to try and scratch it. Sadly they don't exist anymore and im disappointed after buying the vx Santa cruz version because it's just raw wood, no protection. Does Anyone know what kind of coating they did on it, because the coating or the graphic was literally half a centimeter thick
How many ounces did you use of epoxy for this project? I’m using 4 to coat decks now according to size on the art resin calculator. Just curious if you used the same or less?
Hi DJ, I am not sure how many we used for this deck, but definitely use the calculator as it will tell you what you need. ArtResin will naturally self level to 1/8" when you pour it onto your flat surface, the resin calculator takes that into account. www.artresin.com/pages/calculator
what would happen if I wanted to print off a piece of art on paper, then seal it onto the skateboard with resin/polyurethane? I'm not artistic and avoid using paint when possible.
You can easily do this! Just test the paper first, it may require a sealer to prevent it from absorbing the resin. Once sealed you can use a spray adhesive to fix it to the board, use a roller to ensure there are no air pockets trapped behind it, then coat with ArtResin.
Great question. ArtResin will self level as it cures so even when you smooth it on with your gloved hand, it will usually level out smooth before it cures.
You may want to apply a few coats of a good sealer to seal in the artwork prior to applying your ArtResin. Just make sure the sealer you choose dries clear and that it is fully dry before applying your ArtResin.
You could do the top but it is super glossy and would be slippery too. You could apply the grip tape overtop once it cured. To avoid pooling you can apply in a thin layer using a brush or smoothing on with your gloved hand.
You cannot apply ArtResin by spray, but you can apply using a brush if preferred. Epoxy resin is too thick to be sprayed and would just clog up a spray gun as it cured.
@@RNicolasRuvalcaba have you some common sense? The art resin discription said its more flexible and impact resistant than most resins, so of course the resin will sctrach, but it will obviously protect the graphic. If you dont provide a good reason or explanation, you better refrain from making dumb opinions.
Will this keep the board from sticking while doing any slide tricks? Ive done hand painted decks in the past but I always noticed spray paint would cause it to stick. Looking for a tip to keep the deck sliding fine after I’ve pinted the graphic.
The butane torch is used to clear off any bubbles that rise to the surface after pouring on your resin. You can use a heat gun if you don't have a butane torch.
I have 1 pallet of skateboard decks and 2 pallets of longboard decks.. 98% are complete blanks and the rest say Quest…. Anyone want to please take them away
