I have to say $199 is pretty steep at a first glance, but I think that the peace of mind knowing that you're preventing a possible catastrophic and expensive failure makes it more than worth it. Just ordered mine.

When we first talked about doing it, we thought about having them made in china, but wanted to have the best product we could, so we had them engineered and manufactured right here in the USA. Quality goes waaaay up, but unfortunately, the price does as well. Needless to say, it's an incredible insurance policy for the cost!

​@@KiesMotorsports So I could use this instead of the full crank hub wtih 4 pins replacement? I have to replace my stock turbos because I'm having noise issues with them. My BMW dealer told me I need new turbos (just out of warranty, 4yr and only 16K miles!). they do make a loud rattle noise on start and when I cross a certain rpm range. I figured I could upgrade to something better like PureTurbos or Vargas GC since stock turbos are 6K for the pair anyway. But after doing research, I found out about the crank hub issue with the S55, especially on higher HP modified cars and that scares me. Any advice?

Nour do you remember you went to do the crank cup on your m4? So this seal is it better to do rather then the crank cup you did or both? The crank cup and seal? Which one?

@@PureGamingpro For S55 engine in the M4 the Crank Hub is more prone to failure, N55/N54 is where this problem is most prevalent.

I don’t know how this was accomplished without removing the fan and fan shroud. I tried for hours and it is really difficult. Once the fan shroud was removed (which is also a bit of a pain especially if you have a 6AT) it was simple access. One note do not drop you harmonic balancer/crank pulley like I did and take a chip out of it as it is $500-600 for a new one…

My n54 did just that. Dropped the pan to clean it which is a pricy job. Wasn’t good enough and spun a bearing. Torn between getting a 440 and an m4 right now

Does not fit the N54, I had to get it machined by a local shop, however, great quality but I don't recommend getting if you have an N54.

I would have said the same with my older cars, but the engine bay on my N55 is so cramped that I could easily miss a leak. It seems like a $199 insurance policy for my $5,000 engine, especially when I can replace the tensioner, belt, etc at the same time.

first problem i ever had with my N55 was the belt getting sucked into the crank case. luckily the guys over at turner motorsports were able to get all the pieces out of the oil pan and the engine wasn't broken. definitely got lucky

Hi mate, Love watching your videos, they are explained perfectly, i need your help pls, my S55 M4 engine is leaking oil from valve cover gasket, its not heavy or dripping, you can just smell it sometimes.. do you have a video on how to do it DIY, if not could you do one or explain if its possible to do as DIY, i have most tools that are required, thanks in Advance, any help would be appreciated

Can this happen on an M57 Diesel engine? I shredded my AC Belt (not the main Serp) and a mechanic said that he would have to open my engine and the oil pan to verify that the seal wasn't broken.....I picked my car up!

That happened to me. 335i stick shift. Belt went inside my engine and it went all the way down to the oil tank, eventually got stuck into the filter funnel. Huge mess. I bought all the parts and fixed it myself. About 4 days by myself. Changed the head engine gasket as well since you have to open it up. I didn't add that cover since I didn't know about but I learned to keep the belt checked and dry. You can't go wrong with that. It takes some patient to work on that of you don't have a lifter. Thank you for you video. I also have am m4 and I have to install the hub crank myself since ppl are scared of that major flaw bimmer engineers messed up. I love bimmers and own 5 of them but damn. They are turning into a huge pain in the ass.

I have an N54 in my E60 535xi. Your video shows the guard fitting an N54 but your website says it will not fit the N54 in an e-series. Which is true?

I will be getting one of these for piece of mind, but in all actuality you shouldn't need one if you make sure to keep an eye on the condition of your belt, associated components, and make sure to keep oil off the belt.

Removing the fan is super easy (atleast on the n55) and it gives a lot more room to work with..did it for my oil cooler housing and filter gasket. Getting my pulleys and belt tomorow , might wait for the crank seal thing and then tackle tbis job, I’m at 130k

That’s what happened to this one guy I bought the car off of. It’s a 08 535i. He was driving and the engine jus sucked the belt and caused the oil not to go up. It jus stayed down. And I ended up buying the car from him for 1000. And putting a new engine in it.

Very important to answer if crank seal guard interferes with crank bolt capture? We all know N54/N55/S55 have another catastrophic flaw with the crank hub, and aftermarket crank bolt capture is critical to have.

Very nice tutorial! Harmonic balance piece is the toughest part because you are shooting in the dark with the E10s.

No need to remove the fan, especially since the coolant lines get in the way. Underneath does give you better positioning when locking in the guard and starting the bolts on the harmonic balancer.

I did...and it leaked again; the belt walked off and got sucked into my timing chain! BMW should have a shroud to prevent this from happening. After spending days taking my engine apart to remove the belt from my oil pan, timing chain and valve cover, I now have a shroud covering the front engine seal :)

Hello @KiesMotorsports , I have a stock F80 M3 CS from 2018. I don't plan on modding it, it's a daily drive car, not for track, sometimes more aggressive on highways with some down shifts. Should I be worried about crank hub? Cheers

What I did instead, which was 100% easier I bought a double-sided H 10/H 12 ratchet from Amazon And they bought your crank seal guard took me an easy hour to do while I was listening to my music

Guys, it's not "SUCKED IN"!! Please, explain it correctly, as there's mechanics at the shops who watch these videos and are misinformed to the point of selling customers PCV valve replacements to reduce engine vacuum to prevent the belt from being "sucked in"!!! The belt winds up on itself, and is PUSHED IN, and then flung up into the valve cover by the chain, or worse yet, chewed up by the chain! Please explain it accurately!

Is the crank up advised to be upgraded at the and time or do you not need to with this crank seal? Just asking as I saw nour do it on his m4 but he didn’t get this seal he had the crank cup upgraded so it doesn’t slip and rotate anymore as that was also a big factor to cause issues. But that was mainly if the part would turn. So is it advised to do both things?

Belt started squeaking on the way home, watched this and my belt snapped while I was watching the video. Hoping to god it didn’t get sucked in. Any advice? I’m 23 and in my last year of college, being worried that it was sucked in is the last thing I need right now. Car is a 2014 BMM 535ix GT. Please help

Installed on my M235i, i ended up removing the fan for easier access. Also put my GoPro down there and cast to my phone to see the 8 bolts and tigten in sequence. The bolts for the guard are different than on the video. They are round with a hex head. I could not get the socket to fit and definately nonroom for my torque wrench. I had to tighten using an allen wrench. 22ish NM without a wrench.

recently just got a 13 355i, plan on doing all the belt stuff, plugs ex... including this little easy part to install for piece of mind. But has no one made a Balancer with a larger lip so it couldn't ride off? Regardless thanks for all the videos. I have learned A LOT in 3 days lol. cheers.

I have a n52 and I fixed my oil filter housing gasket leak. Also put a new belt, should I still be concern about my belt getting sucked in? Same with my s55 I work on my own cars and I’m always inspecting my cars very often to catch any problems. If I catch the leak and fix it ASAP then I should really need this part then right?

Brian, Wonderful vid. I am planning to do the crankhub fix and now this will be added to the job. can you comment on what's the difference between the crank hubs fixes offered on your site (and possible SSR Performance crank fix) RK AUTOWERKS S55 BILLET PINNED CRANK HUB verses CARBAHN AUTOWORKS S55 N55 KEYED CRANK HUB KIT verse KIES01-MAXPSI-CRNKHB-S55. RK AUTOWERKS looks amazing but I've not heard much about them. SSR Performance has been talked about in LA, CA alot. I m right next to Carbahn but I am wondering if their 2-pin design is good enough. I think it will help your viewers like me to make educated decisions before I purchase from your site.

Change you oil filter gasket make sure no oil leaks on the belt and change the belt also if you don’t have the money to buy the crank seal I bought my one for my n55 I need to put it on just in case tho but yeah do preventative maintenance on your BMW
