We were warned that animals would get into our garden, but we weren't prepared. You see... On a brand new homestead there is A LOT to do. Getting food in the ground has been our top priority, but it soon shifted when the rabbits took out our first crops.
If you are having the same problem with your garden, your definitely going to love Brian's quick & cheap fencing option.
While Brian worked on protecting the plants I (Erin) worked on preparing another curved garden mound.. Lasagna garden style. We've been digging the lasagna gardening method, so we figured we would keep running with it.
Gratitude to everyone who is dropping tips in the comments! You're giving us a lot of insight into a world we don't yet know much about. So thanks! Big love for choosing to BE here with us. Happy gardening.

So far so good @5 Acre Farm Life! No rabbit invasions in this fenced off space. It's been a lot of work putting beds together. A lot of our seeds went in real late. But we are still planting anyways. I'm pretty sure this nice weather is going to stick around for a while, after chatting with locals. How's your garden, chickens & ducks? We miss you guys! Would love to come for a dip! That pool is looking fresh! :) - E + B

I have rabbit fence around my garden and yesterday afternoon I saw the culprit that has munched on my turnip greens…a squirrel. Putting out cotton balls with cinnamon and peppermint oil today

OOoo @Moonlight Gardener! How did the cotton balls work?!?!?! I just read about a garlic cayenne spray! That may have been for bugs though. I pinned it late at night. Gotta go back and take a look.

We have a beagle for keeping critters out of the garden. However he has developed a taste for green beans tomatoes and cucumbers over the years lol

Yeah, we gotta get a dog at some point @Rocky. Not sure which breed. We're leaning towards short hair, but some of the mid to long hair breeds are so dang good! How's the beagle around chickens?

Erin the licorice smell could possibly be a form of sassafras root,or yellow root,sassafras is good for tea and some medicinal qualities and yellow root is good for certain stomach ailments used to much will give you the screaming shafts so be careful really enjoy the series so far good luck

Great to know about the sassafras @dee swanson. We definitely have that around our property. I haven't seen any big trees, but small ones developing. I think that's what they make root beer with?!

Well that's painful. My Kim says she had Rabbit issues on a garden she had years ago. You know Rabbit tastes yummy😬 just kidding;) These are learning experiences. At least that's what I've been telling myself through these last stages of our electrical install, ouch. I do agree with leaving as much human sent around the perimeter as possible. Yep, gettin more food in the dirt. Sending Best Wishes and Blessings, James and Kim ❤️
@BEAdventurePartners
@BEAdventurePartners 2 года назад
Haha I agree with you @J.James it's all about the learning experiences. Might sting for a bit while it's happening, but most times we come out smarter and stronger! Hope you buttoned up your electric! that was one heck of a job! Brian liked it... I kept falling asleep. LOL Lots of love to you & Kim! - E + B too

We don't really have a rabbit problem it's the deer that love our garden! They've even started eating our hot peppers and tomatoes, but the coyotes keep our rabbit population down lol, good luck guys
@BEAdventurePartners
@BEAdventurePartners 2 года назад
Lol maybe we need a pet coyote!?! I think the generators in our area scare off the deer. Though we don't run ours hardly ever... So people do see them running onto our property. BOTh deer & rabbits. We have spotted a few. But no deer munching on our gardens so far. Thank goodness. Did you put up a fence @Steven Annett?

was wondering how you were going to raise a garden without a fence
@BEAdventurePartners
@BEAdventurePartners 2 года назад
We were hoping we didn't need to put up a fence so soon @KAREN RIGGLE - We plan for fencing around our immediate area, but not each garden bed. At some point we will get to it. Lots to do when you are first getting started. It's hard to prioritize what goes first, because everything is important. The fence has certainly helped! Now we gotta get back to making more garden beds.
