Please explain why DFAS refuses to address my concerns over SBP. I retired 2 years ago and did NOT sign up for SPB. I'm single and all my children are grown. However, DFAS begam immediately charging me $9.29 per month for my son who was 28 years old at the time of my retirement. My DFAS statement says RCSBP COST $9.29 Child DOB Feb 21, 1993. When asked I get shuffled around DFAS and never receive an explanation. Worse part it seems I CANNOT cancel it?
My question is what do I do if both of us retirees signed up for it. I have spouse n children, while my now ex spouse chose spouse only. Now during our divorce it says we need to maintain our SBP and have our children as beneficiaries. I didn't realize that I had to contact DFAS to do anything since my payments were automatic. Can you tell me what I should do? Would I need his permission to make changes to my sbp since it includes spouse not just children? His SBP does not say former spouse and it doesn't have any date of birth. We have been divorced for over three years
