Catholic here, so I check my Douay-Rheims Bible and I can confirm that I actually have 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Kings, 1st and 2nd Paralipomenon, additional readings of Daniel including hymn of the 3 young men, Daniel and Susanna, Bel and the Serpent, additional readings of Esther, 1st (Ezra) and 2nd (Nehemiah) Esdras With an appendix that contains the Prayer to the Manasses, 3rd and 4th Esdras. Even though I don't have Pslam 151 nor Maccabees 3 on the Douay-Rheims Bible. On my NRSV Bible though, I do have Pslam 151 but it has parentheses around this verse
Exactly! That's true. Those text are read during the Holy Mass. For instance in 4th week of Lent we read story about Susanna and in 5th about three young man in the fiery furnace.
From what I've learned I believe an ancient copy of the Bible found on Mt Sinai included the so called apocryphal books of the Shepherd of Hermas and the Epistle of Barnabas. So why are these books along with many others not included in the New Testament Canon today?
What was the framework Jews used to determine if something was canon in the Old Testament What’s the framework Christian’s use vs Catholics used to determine what’s canonical in the New Testament
I’m still confused. Why are there so many variations? That one I can’t seem to find an answer to. I was always confused when Non-Believers challenged me on how I could believe in the Bible when Christians can’t even agree. Now I understand what they meant. Are the extra books heretical or is the missing books heresy? How do 6 versions of Orthodoxy all align and yet retain different Bibles? So many questions now…
Every tradition has its own set of canonical books. There is no one ultimate, supreme, and complete book. The canonicity of scripture in each tradition is determined on the basis of its use in liturgy. Our view of the Bible is very non-Christian, in that we think it is one Big Book that is organized into a set of different sections. However, according to the creed, we believe in the scriptures. Each church had liberty to set its canon of scripture in accordance with its culture and liturgical tradition.
@@TheologyAcademy Interesting. Though I have to admit that still leaves me at ground zero. How do you trust what your reading as the infallible Word of God?
@@unholynexus Because what Christ has established is His One Church. He didn't write the Bible, the Bible is a product of the Church. 1 Timothy 3:15 2 Thessalonians 2:15
Hey! Sounds like you're going through quite a shock like I did years ago haha. In my protestant upbringing, I was taught that my 66 books were the bible and that's that. It's unfortunate that happened because when I found all this out, it had my head spinning! I was so discouraged because in my protestant tradition, the bible needed to be exact and perfect, because that's the only thing I could rely on for doctrine. I then learned about the history of the church and how the bible really fit in as a whole, and it brought me great comfort. If you would like some encouragement, I'm even more in love with Christ than I ever have been, so dont be discouraged, take your time, pray often, and always know you can go to the Father for comfort :).
@@ishitrealbad3039 you are aware that the church before the schisms use different bible and different tradition and the reason why the west canonized the bible is inorder to deal with heretics. Besides Judaism have lesser

Best to just own a few different ones, with different translations, and then read them all and see what happens. I have a number of Protestant Bible translations, have a Catholic Bible, and the Orthodox Study Bible. It's actually quite fun comparing them about my favorite passages and psalms.
We will get to that in other days, but yes there is a difference. Thank you so much, Kayed!! It would be great if you could support our channel to keep us producing videos and legit content! @@AreJay_ That moment when you realise that Martin Luther took 7 Books out of The Bible The Biblical Cannon was discovered at The Council of Rome, Council of Carthage & The Council of Hippo Basically every Bible before the 16th Century included The Dueterocannonical Books in one form or another
A Guy named Martin Luther (no not the not Martin Luther King ) Martin Luther removed books from The KJV which contain deutero-canonical ( apocrypha) , which the Morden KJV contains only 66 which original contain 73 1611 edition. Lutheranism is the first Protestant Denomination
@@GerardTheJones From what I have researched , he never removed them. The KJV was printed for like over 100 more years before they were removed. So same question.
@@PatrickSteil Well did try to remove there a whole book about and he wanted to remove Book of James even but failed Like legit search KJV 1611 edition, you will see it with the deutero-canonical in it
@@GerardTheJones Yep, they were in it... from what I have learned, they were in it for another 215 years! Until the deutero canonicals were removed for FINANCIAL REASONS at the urging of the PRINTING COMPANY. They wanted to reduce costs to make more money. THIS is not a reason to remove books from the Bible. There was not "church council", no meeting of "Bishops", no scholarly conversations. Those seven books of the Bible were just removed. If this isn't a bigger offense than any Catholic offense... The Catholic Church never as far as I can tell ever made any knee jerk decision like this and dishonored God. Every doctrine and dogma was discussed and prayed over and the Holy Spirit allowed to pour over all of them, for decades and sometimes centuries. Perhaps this is a good reason to leave the Protestant "church" who teaches that anyone can simply remove any of God's Truths by just omitting what they don't like. It goes along with Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide that were brand new inventions 1500 years after Christ and His Church carried the Faith from one generation to another.
