Protests in Sheffield after comedian Roy Chubby Brown is cancelled: 'We want acts here that we like' 

As a tax payer I am deeply offended by the actions of Sheffield city council, why should they choose who I can pay to see? they're the ones doing all the offending in my opinion 👎

Now we got “comedy police” dictating which acts are suitable. This shit gets more and more frustrating…

The most worrying thing about this is "sheffield council will make judgement on whether acts are appropriate before booking them". That's the government controlling what people can and can't see. If you aren't disgusted by that thought, you should be.

It’s an act. In our free society, people have the choice to buy a ticket or not. Councils have no right to make decisions about personal choice. The people should take the council to court for interference.

I've been to see a number of well known comedians over the years including one whose well loved on TV but couldn't make me laugh that night because I honestly didn't think him funny.Going to see Chubby was a different experience altogether, it was non stop laughter that had everyone on a high.Well done Chubby,best show ever mate.

Interesting and great to see so many people who aren't fans of Roy and his humor writing to say despite that he should be allowed to perform and it should be the paying public who decide whether his act is / isn't appropriate by voting with there feet and there wallets by choosing whether to pay to see the man. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall of the council meeting where this was discussed, lots of scared of there own shadow liberalists taking the moral high ground and playing it safe by stopping him performing for fear of it upsetting minorities when you would think they should be more worried about the majority given that's who they should be focusing most of there effort on, if we wanted councils and representative groups to spend most of there time on minorities then we'd be voting in the parties and representatives who get the least votes not the most..! Too much over thinking by the council on this one, dead simply one to handle this, logic should be:- 1. Is the act being proposed to be put on committing any crime by doing so - Answer No 2. Is the act being proposed to be put on likely to cause offence - Answer Almost certainly to some 3. Is the act being proposed to be put on viewable to people inadvertently - Answer No as its a staged event for paying patrons only 4. If the act being proposed to be put on were to be viewed by those who found it offensive do those offended people have a means of recourse - Answer Yes, they can leave the auditorium So in summary no members of the public will be forced to experience Roy's act, those that are likely to be offended are in no way, shape or form compelled to experience it and even if someone did inadvertently pay to see the act and were offended they have the option to walk out and stop there exposure to it, quite simply no decision to be made other than to move to the next agenda item with "no action to be take" marked along side it, instead we have this horseshit..!

We should all go and buy a Roy Chubby Brown show ticket or dvd or something. Get him trending or something to try help him out.

I love Dave Chapelle. But he'd be allowed a show in Sheffield, no problem, even though he makes fun of white people, asians, hispanics, goes in hard against transgenders. People buying tickets for any show define its suitability. Not councils. Ticket sales meet costs and unpopular acts don’t sell tickets. Let that be the defining line for suitability.
