"Aggressive" knurling on the handle of an S-K ratchet set I had is what caused me to look for one that didn't have ANY knurling. The knurling on the S-K ratchet was deeper than it needed to be, which cut into the palm of my hand during use. It got to where I couldn't use it w/o wearing a leather glove. Long story short, my brother-in-law ran a body-repair shop and sent me one that he got from his Snap-on guy at the time (around 1983). I was so impressed with its quality and the smooth handle that I stopped using the S-K ratchet (#45170) altogether.
That old school 3/8 proto you have, I have the 1/2 version.I just put a rebuild kit on it. The ball detent on the old one was gone and the socket would always fall of. Nice Rachet
The Proto 5449P & 5450P Big Dawg ratchets were only made for a few years. They're an awesome ratchet, but the plate screws would break, the selector switch and pawl pin would break or the pawl spring would bend. Because of all these problems Proto abondend the Big Dawg series and no longer have parts. I've been looking forever for RB KITS for my Big Dawgs with no success. You would have to contact Proto, and they'd prob send you a whole new ratchet. The Big Dawgs were 53 tooth ratchets, with a 9 tooth pawl, not 72 tooth as stated in video.
