Cream were, during their brief two-plus years existence, one of the hottest bands in the world. Join Bill as he reviews how their landmark album Wheels of Fire influenced the prog rock genre.

Jack Bruce made the comment about the group being a jazz band and not telling Eric was mostly "tongue-in-cheek".

Perhaps, but he made a point of repeating it often :)

We just removed a comment due to its including political content that was only peripherally associated with the subject of this video. NO POLITICS here, please ... this channel is for discussing music, and ONLY music.

If you listen to their early live English concerts and or first gigs in Detroit they are playing for their life and clearly pathfinding before even Hendrix .By 68 they sound tired and repetative but thier work was done

They certainly were getting tired and jaded by mid-'68. Thankfully, Wheels of Fire doesn't show that too badly. The video of the Farewell Concert at Albert Hall is another matter ...

The studio sides of this album is Cream at their best , the live side the most tedious and boring with the most tedious drum solo ever ( and did Baker do some over the years ? ) An impact on Prog / Rock ? l hardly think so as no way is this double album anything like or near Prog . In fact apart from being one of the first three piece Blues / Rock bands to stretch out and improvise they were definitely not Prog but exceptional musicians with the chops to stretch out and radically change their music much like the Jazzmen who came before . Now if you want to cite a band that pioneered Prog / Rock look no further than the Nice .
