I acquired a set of Proto snap ring pliers that were left out in the weather and decided to give them a good resto job using the EvapoRust.

The black areas on the steel, after soaking in Evapo-Rust, are actually the parts of the steel that have been hardened.

Hi Adam, The "blue or black" that is remaining is the actual heat treatment zone. Pliers such as these need to be very 'tough' on the ends, but somewhat 'malleable' around the pivot etc. Good video!! Ken

Performance proves the product. Thanks for showing your free, nice, rust-free tool set. The soft grips did not seem to be affected by the EvapoRust.

I own that set, those are good pliers. The normal straight nose are strong enough for the front axle snap ring on a Ford super duty so you know they’re good as gold

Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! It is always a good idea to rinse the metal with water after de-rusting to remove any lingering rust flakes from the surface.

Ive been recently watching videos on how to preserve older firearms which have the black oxide finish on them. I have learned that if tou boil the metal with the red rust still on it, it will be converted into the black oxide. Thereby keeping the original finish and adding to the simplicity of the project. Just something you can maybe keep in mind for your next project.

I use also Evaporust, and like it. The plier kit looks good. That´s the right way, a plier for every size, and of course for any size one inside, and one outside. I really hate those kits, where you get one plier for inside and one for outside, and for the sizes, you have to change the tips, which are screwed in. In the end, there is only one screwed, and that is the user...

I will bet that the black oxide coating being missing from the handle area, but not missing on the tips, is because the tips are heat treated.

I think the tips ending up a different color has to do with the hardness of the metal and the original tool black, I'm sure the tips were hardened from the factory. The grain is tighter so the original black hangs on tighter, just an observation :)

I bought a litre of Evaporust based on your previous video, used it to clean a 1970'ish Made in the USA General #721 vernier caliper and it worked great. Took all the rust and staining right off no scrubbing required. Just a little wipe and they look almost brand new. Not sure if they are supposed to be shiny or dull but I'm real happy to have them cleaned up and working.

It did a perfect job on some vintage caliper tools I bought with rust, no damage, just forgot about it for two to three days. I then through in some offcuts I received from plasma cutter circles and square pieces it removed the outer blue metal cover leaving then grey metal colour , in this case leaving the evaporust a black colour, I through in some more but it seems the evaporust now lost most of its power. I bought 1L at a dealer, liked it, only now to find its very difficult to get, nobody wants to stock it, I liked it and will try to get hold of it again, no damage to any stuff, unlike the other stuff I tried to use previously.

I was just wondering where you got your fatigue mats, were is a good place to get them and at a good price. Also what size do you use for your lathes and end mill, how thick and long do you recommend? That might be a good SNS for you, a look around the shop at setup, types of tools used, maybe a little history on them, etc... Pro's and Con's of what you have tried in the past and maybe what you are looking at for future shop tools and supplies. Be a good episode of what you need in a shop for basics,, safety, etc...

On surface rust just boil the item and convert the red oxide to black ferric oxide then hit them with some 000 or 0000 steel wool and it wont remove the metal finish it will make it deeper
