The vz.50 pistol was a compact .32 ACP (7.65mm Browning) double action pocket pistol used by police forces. It was given a face lift and redesigned the vz.70, and there were plans at one point to further modernize it. The new design would have been the vz.80, but only a few prototypes were made - one of which we are looking at today from the CZ reference library. The would-be vz.80 has a barrel about 1cm shorter than the vz.50/70, and a revised mechanism for removing the slide. And other than a few cosmetic changes to parts like the safety, that's it...

My dad had a VZ70 in the past,he even carried it as a sidearm when he fought in the Croatian war for independence. He had that gun until around 20 years ago (as far as I know),and unfortunately he sold it later. It's a pretty cool gun.

CZ 50 and 70 are still very commonly sold 2nd hand (or 10th+ hand? ;-)) in Czechia and super-cheap. You can get one in a very nice state for ~$200 but if you don't mind a bit of wear, they are available for ~$80.

The improvements in barrel length and slide mechanism demonstrate a commitment to enhancing functionality and ergonomics. It's a shame this model didn't see mass production, but it's a testament to CZ's dedication to innovation.

The slidestop on the prototype is a Walther copy. I find it strange that both of them have a more complex, and expensive, takedown catch.

I have owned a CZ 70 and it was a great shooter, but the ergos kinda sucked. The .32 acp feels very smooth and pleasant in this size of all-metal pistol.

That slide stop going from a stamped piece to milled is a great improvement. Of the vz50 and 70s I've had, I've replaced at least a couple of those levers or had to rebend them to actually engage.
@sakamoto2467
@sakamoto2467 6 месяцев назад
Well its a prototype, theyre making one off pieces for development. Stamping would require an investment in setting up the jig, easier to just cut a single piece of metal to test. I dont know how the final production piece was made though.
@butchs.4239
@butchs.4239 6 месяцев назад
I figure it was a milled part on the prototype and likely would've been stamped had the weapon gone into production. Milling however many were needed during prototyping would be way cheaper than making the dies needed to stamp the same parts and without a production contract they'd never recoup the investment in the tooling.

I always think it's funny when, for example, Ian is at CZ's archive and CZ doesn't know something about one of their own guns. Ian: "Hey, guys, what's with this serial number? There's no way you made three thousand of these things, right?" CZ: "Umm, you're the Forgotten Weapons guy; we were hoping you could tell us that!"

I noted a difference in the "32" and "50" stamp and thus, I suspect each denotes just one thing. I'd propose that "32" is the caliber in inches and that "50" marks the model for which this was intended as an improvement, or just the magazine to be used during testing.
@Gieszkanne
@Gieszkanne 10 дней назад
They dont use inches! Also it was done after the VZ 70 came out. So its an improvement of the 70 not 50.

I feel like that disassembly catch locking into place carried over to or inspired the Cz82 because, although it's like a Makarov where the trigger guard pulls down, the 82 locks into place instead of springing back like the Mak does

The slide stop on the prototype might have been milled because it was a one-off/limited production affair, and the idea may have been to move to stamping if it entered full production.
