After waiting for a month and keeping a 100 Safety Score, FSD Beta version 10.11.1 (2022.4.5.20) arrived!
Took it out for a quick test and was amazed! A recent snow storm made the drive extra challenging, but it was so much fun!
Watch our responses to the success and failures!
Thanks for watching!

Honestly, super impressive! Maybe even better than some of the drives I’ve seen so far in states in similar conditions. Remember if you manually take over, it will always send a snapshot to the Tesla team. If you just want to disengage FSD Beta because you’ve finished your route or want to stop and select a different route then use the stalk to deactivate 😃

wow it did pretty good, even with all that snow and unclear roads, I def will sub to watch more Canadians stuff haha. For the speed limit, u can change settings to not go 10MPH above limit

Thanks! I was very impressed with its performance in the snow. Yes, I have to change that speed setting before my next drive...

When it missed the corner at 10:19, and then crossed the navigation line later, it's because you needed to press "Continue Trip" at the top of the navigation directions.

Oops! Thanks for the info! I was too focused on the FSD part I guess I forgot about normal navigation! 😂😂😎

And it's far more impressive since it's just driving on cameras no additional sensors like lidar or radar this is incredible just activate the car in any part of the world and just drive ? Wow

Thanks for the video. I get that you were likely excited to get the beta and that you are generally going to be pro-tesla given that you own one and paid/paying for FSD, but one thing I would prefer is for you (and others making these FSD Beta videos) to be more critical of it. In your intro, you said "the car did a great job" when it objectively didn't. I'll only focus on the biggest issue it had in your drive which was the reason you had to disengage after 2 seconds at 1:17. In the conditions you had, it cannot tell where the edge of the drivable space is. This caused it to try right off the bat to try to drive over a small snow bank and onto the neighbor's driveway. This was the same reason the car ended up driving on the sidewalk at 7:45 and again at 9:06. Your reaction to this second sidewalk was "still... that's pretty impressive isn't it" at 9:11. Again, I get the excitement factoring in here and commenting on the fly while driving is not easy to do either. However the conclusion of this drive should have been that FSD Beta is bad in these conditions, not that it did a great job. The car driving on the sidewalk is a big problem. The car not being able to distinguish between a light dusting of snow and a snow pile it shouldn't try to drive over is a big problem here in Canada when those are the conditions for 5 months of the year.

You make a fair point. Enthusiasm definitely had an impact. I think my overall positive outlook was driven more by low expectations. Sort of like complimenting a 5 year old on their coloring. The standard you compare them to is not an accomplished artist. At this early stage of deployment and the challenging conditions, I was surprised by how well it did. However, I agree that this is totally unacceptable for a wide release to the public at this point. I am editing a more critical look at a longer drive that I hope to upload soon. Really appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback, and thanks for watching!

It’s quite impressive but need to see how it can perform in these bad conditions Foggy, Rainy or Snow Storm on relying using just cameras!!!

I agree! Very difficult conditions, and yet it did a great job! Can't imagine how much better it will be in a year! Thanks for watching!

Auto label needs adjustment on snowed curbs clearly it’s habitually off

Yes! Snowy roads are a reality for many months a year, and being able to infer where the road is from other clues will be a challenging job! Looking forward to see how it develops! Thanks for watching!

Can I ask what your location is, are you in a large city like Toronto or Vancouver? What was your final score and how many Km’s did you have?
@AnotherNerdyCanuck
@AnotherNerdyCanuck 2 года назад
I live in Bruce county, about 2 hours North West of Toronto. It is very much a rural setting. My safety score was 100 after about 2,500 km. Including a 1500 km road trip, and a trip to Toronto to drop off some relatives at the airport. Most of my driving was done on autopilot.

whats the range like during the winter for you?
@AnotherNerdyCanuck
@AnotherNerdyCanuck 2 года назад
I really depends on the start temp of the battery, the temperature and the road conditions. Working on a video from an 800 km (500 mile) road trip we did in temps as low as -35 Celcius to try to answer this question. 🙂

Hopefully soon! However, the style of road signs is much different and with many more languages, it requires more significant changes than adapting the US style to Canada.

Appreciate your vid but no way you should be using FSD for the first time ever in those conditions. Shame on Tesla. 7 month testers that don't face this version yet

@@AnotherNerdyCanuck I'm hoping Beta continues and right now putting it into untrained, inexperienced hands in terrible weather is mind boggling. Wait 1 month and that changes. I know for a fact after using it it should not be turned on if you even see snow. Like it kept going right when it saw snow... That's what it does - why? Who knows - but the current testers know that and the risk of accident drops substantially.

@@jakesta11 They are putting it into the hands of proven safe drivers who are ready to take over. Canadians know how to drive in snow - it's only those who are inexperienced in snow who watch this and freak out. He could have taken over before the sidewalk scenarios, but no one was there. In fact pedestrians on the sidewalks would have prevented FSD from doing that.

True. The car didn't do anything I wasn't comfortable with and I was supervising the whole time. Anytime I was concerned, I took over. Safety was never compromised!
